00. volunteering to partake in the hunger games was a rite of passage for most children in district 1 ― though initially amber lazuli didn't buy into any of it. at least not until she felt it necessary to avenge her brother (definitely had absolutely nothing to do with her crush on the pretty blonde girl who'd inevitably be her mentor) who lost his own games at the hands of finnick odair.

and so it was, in a way, easy the first time around; easy to stand up there on stage at the reaping with pride on her face as the crowd jeered at two teenagers who had voluntarily sold their souls for a miniscule chance at supposed glory-

don't do it. please don't do it.

the pretty blonde girl's words had been mere whispers at the back of her mind.

but now, as they stood on that same stage for the second time, those words were more like pleading wails of agony.

don't do this- please don't-

it broke her heart to do this, truly, but she much fancied dying in the arena herself than watching the love of her life do it on live television - as selfish as some may see it, amber didn't care. the rebellion was going to be a success. cashmere was going to have a chance at a new life in a new world (whether that be with or without her) - amber was going to ensure, no matter what lengths she'd have to go to.

NOTES! | so right off the bat, i haven't read the books in a long while (save for catching fire) so this is going to be moreso based on the movies with random book scenes/references thrown in as i spontaneously remember them. i will also definitely take some liberties with district 1, since we virtually know nothing about life there. and obviously cashmere's fate has been changed.
