||DURGATINASHINI||
In the ancient days of yore,
When gods and demons clashed in war,
A formidable demon named Mahishasura,
Ruled the realms with a heart impure.
His arrogance knew no bound,
Blessed by Brahma, he was a like hound.
The gods trembled, their powers deafening,
As Mahishasura's tyranny kept reigning.
The gods beseeched Shakti's aid,
Their voices woven into plea's braid.
She descended like a comet ablaze,
Her lion steed roaring, stars in a daze.
Her skin was as golden as the morning sun,
Eyes aflame with battles to be won.
Ten arms adorned with weapons of might,
Maa Durga emerged, a celestial sight.
Trishul by Shiva, Chakra from Hari,
Sword by Ganesha and Spear from Agni.
Vishwakarma's axe, Brahma's kamal,
Shiva's sarpa, and Indra's vajra.
To end Mahishasura's wicked reign,
And restore balance, love, and justice again.
She had descended to the earth,
The purify world from its hearth.
The battlefield quaked as she stepped forth,
Her trishul gleaming, her valour unsworn.
Demons trembled, their hearts filled with sear,,
For Maa Durga's wrath was a tempest they'd fear.
Mahishasura, too, stood defiant and bold,
His buffalo head lowered, his resolve untold.
But the goddess had made her stay,
Each step a mantra, each move a gateway.
Days turned to nights, the battle raged on,
Maa Durga's fury like a thousand suns at dawn.
Finally, she pinned Mahishasura down,
Her trishul piercing his chest, his wickedness unbound.
As the demon fell, defeated and vanquished,
The gods rejoiced, their gratitude distinguished.
Durgatinashini, the embodiment of grace,
Had saved the cosmos, in that sacred space.

Explanation:
In ancient times, the demon named Mahishasura ruled with arrogance and cruelty. He was born to a Asura (demon) and a Mahisi (Buffalo). He could change into a Mahish and demon as he wished. After praying to Lord Brahma for a long time he had gained a boon that 'no man could kill him.' And with that he had started torturing mortals. He had even taken over the Swargalok (Abode of the Gods.)
The gods sought help from the goddess Shakti, who descended as Maa Durga. With ten arms wielding divine weapons which were given by different Gods, she battled Mahishasura relentlessly. After days of fierce combat, she defeated him, restoring balance and justice to the cosmos. Her victory earned her the name "Durgatinashini," the one who defeats every ill condition.
