ππππππππ πππ ππππππ completely forgot about her brothers idiocy from that morning. That was until Fiona shouted for the girl. Adelaide decided that instead of just yelling back, she was just going to go downstairs to see what the older girl wanted.
Adie walked downstairs and swung into the kitchen, where Fiona was standing. Adelaide quickly noticed her younger brother, who was grinning widely, despite having to wear a nose cast and probably having a lot of trouble breathing. "Your mom dropped him off, apparently she has something to do tonight." Fiona explained, running her hand through her hair. Adelaide nodded, "And apparently so do you." She said, looking over to Fiona, who was all dressed up.
"Yeah," Fiona smiled, "V and I are going to the club." Adelaide nodded. "Well, you look very pretty." Adie smiled to Fi. "Yeah, very pretty." Allen agreed with his sister. Fiona grinned at the Parker children and thanked them for the compliments.
"Hey, Fi, where are Debbie and Carl?" Allen asked, looking up at Fiona. Adelaide shook her head and took her brothers arm, "Nope. You are so not hanging out with Carl. Not with a broken nose." Fiona laughed at Adelaide's comment and looked down at Allen. "I think Debbie's in her room." Fiona patted the young boys head.
Al smiled and ran up the stair, presumably into Debbie's room. "Are you okay to help watch Debbie and Carl?" Fiona asked, leaning on the kitchen counter. "Yeah, of course! Staying here gives both Allen and I something to do." Adelaide grinned. Fiona embraced Adie before walking to the door. Fiona shot a quick 'thank you' to Adelaide before leaving the house.
Adelaide made her way back upstairs and back into the boys room. Lip was now sitting on Ian's bed looking through what Adie assumed to be some sort of gay playboy magazine, basically just a lot of naked dudes taking it up the ass. "Damn, Lip, I never knew you swung that way." Adie joked, sitting down beside him. He rolled his eyes at her joke, "It's not mine."
"Uh huh, sure it's not." Adelaide replied sarcastically. Lip closed the gay porno magazine and hopped up on his bed, just as Ian walked into the bedroom. Ian smiled to Adie before greeting his older brother. "Oh, by the way, boys," Adie began, pointing to both Lip and Ian, "Fiona and V are going to the club. Fiona just left. Thought you should know." The boys nodded and otherwise ignored the comment.
The three were exceptionally close. The trio you could never split up. Adelaide was kind of like a caretaker for the two, considering they were much more rebellious and carefree than her. They spent that afternoon doing many things, drawing on each other, drawing on the wall, gossiping about who supposedly has crabs at school, and other stuff like that.
"I got a hummer today." Lip mentioned, starting up an easy conversation. Adelaide rolled her eyes, lying back on Ian's bed. "Oh yeah? What's the law on sex with pets?" Ian quipped, putting a cigarette in his mouth and lighting it. Lip rolled his eyes and hopped off his bed, walking over and sitting down beside Ian's bed.
"Hey, it's that or the city centipede finally embraced the style of the south side." Ian joked, turning his head towards Adelaide and blowing smoke in her face. Adelaide sat up and smack him on the arm, "First of all, fuck you." She began, immediately making the two boys' jaws drop. Adelaide didn't usually swear, when she did, it was most likely little slip ups or her getting annoyed at her brother.
"Second of all, city centipede? What does that even mean?" She questioned to Ian, who just shrugged. Her eyes then shot up to Lip, who also just shrugged. She rolled her eyes again (something she does a lot when hanging with the Gallagher boys) and grabbed a pen and paper from off the floor.
The two boys went back to talking about Lip's breathtaking tutoring session from earlier on in the day as Adelaide tuned them out and began drawing on the random piece of paper. Simple, non-important doodles that were actually quite good. She drew an octopus, a shark, and a turtle, as she loves sea animals. She also drew a dinosaur because she's like a five year old boy when it comes to them. She only looked up to the two boys when the room became uncomfortably silent.
Ian's face was coated in a mixture of fear, nervousness, and maybe confusion, Adelaide couldn't tell for sure. Lip looked like a disappointed mother and on Ian's lap was the magazine Lip had found earlier. Adelaide was capable of putting two and two together and she did, simple, Ian's gay and Lip just outed him. She looked between the two so many times that she felt like her eyes could just roll out of her head. Finally, after what felt like forever, Lip rolled his eyes and left the room, Adelaide quickly trailing behind.
"Y'know, you didn't have to do that. He probably would've told you at some point." She whispered to Lip. He stopped in the middle of the hallway and turned towards her, "I have the right to know, I'm his brother." Adelaide shook her head, "Lip, things like that take time, you can't just force it out of him, that's so not cool."
Lip opened his mouth to say something, but was interrupted by druken laughter that the two had somehow managed to miss due to their whisper argument. Lip turned away from the brunette and walked downstairs, followed by said brunette, who was visibly annoyed.
Adelaide turned down the stairs and the living room quickly came into view, along with the people in it, who was Lip, Fiona, Veronica, and some random shirtless dude that Adelaide didn't recognize at all. Adie walked down into the living room and sat on the arm of the chair that was currently occupied by Lip. The shirtless dude was sitting on the floor in front of Veronica, who was cleaning up a cut on his hairline.
It didn't take long for everyone else who was currently in the Gallagher residence to come downstairs, including Allen, who immediately ran over to his older sister and nudged himself under her arm. Lip and Fiona were telling the guy on the floor about Veronica's nursing school offer as Allen nudged himself into his sister a bit more, an easy way to tell that the boy was tired.
"They fired her for selling medical supplies on eBay." Fiona explained, Adelaide smiled, remembering the first time she was told about that fiasco. "Will you shut up? We don't even know him." V quickly commented.
"Steve." He said quickly, putting his hand out to Carl, who quickly shook it and introduced himself, as did Lip. Fiona introduced Debbie for her and Adelaide and Allen just kept quiet. "How you doing, Debbie?" Steve asked. Debbie looked up from her notepad, "Nice watch."
He looked down at his watch which was on the table. "Thanks. Panerai." He stated, Adelaide looked down at her own watch, realizing that it was the same brand. One of the few expensive things she's managed to protect after having many things stolen from her. "What'd that set you back about, six bills?" Debbie asked. Nobody replied, just Fiona who introduced Ian, who sat down on the stairs.
"What about you two?" Steve had turned his attention to Adelaide and Allen, who was slowly falling asleep in his sisters arms.
"We're across the street. Adelaide." She smiled to him. "What about the little guy?" Steve asked, pointing to Allen. "He's my little brother, Allen." She rubbed his back as she introduced him and he just groaned, obviously getting annoyed by all the talking.
"Hey, Debbie, why do they call him Lip?" Steve whispered to Debbie. Fiona smiled, "His real name's Philip." She answered before the door opened.
Kev entered the house, shouting to Veronica about keys before noticing Steve sitting on the floor. "What's going on here?" He questioned, noticeably confused. "This is Steve." V began. "Decked the bouncer at Purgatory to defend my honor." She obviously exaggerated.
"My honor." Fiona quickly corrected. Adie grinned and looked up to Kev, giving him a quick high five. Out of all the kids on the street, Kev definitely preferred Adie. She wasn't obnoxious or constantly getting into trouble, she was easy to talk to, and she was helpful. A really good kid in Kev's eyes.
"Yeah? Which bouncer?" Kev asked, a question that Adelaide had also been wanting to ask. Fiona quickly shot up and answered the question, "Jimmy Clifton." Adelaide's eyes widened and she looked back down at Steve.
Jimmy Clifton was the human equivalent of a brick wall. A rock hard tough guy that nobody ever wanted to fuck with. Dude had been to jail multiple times, he was definitely a sociopath or a psychopath, one of the paths. Needless to say, Adelaide was terrified of him. She was shocked that a dude like Steve had the balls to deck him.
"You decked Jimmy Clifton?" Adie asked in disbelief. Steve nodded. "A well rounded dude like you? God, that's almost hard to believe. Good job, man." She joked. "How do you know I'm 'well rounded.'" Steve asked, putting air quotes around well rounded.
Adelaide scoffed, "C'mon, Panerai watch? You have money, probably good money too. Y'know, stuck up rich?" She explained. Lip shook his head, "Stuck up rich? Have you met your mother?" He joked to Adie, who just grinned, until her name was screamed from outside the house.
"Good going, Lip, you summoned her." Adelaide rolled her eyes and went back to rubbing her brothers back, who was now fully asleep in his upright position, somehow. Lenora walked into the house and pushed past Kevin who was now staring at the woman. "Could you be any louder, Lenora?" Kev asked her. Lenora smacked Kevin's arm, most likely irritated that she had to enter the Gallagher home, her least favourite place in the world.
"Steve, this is my mother, Lenora." Adelaide introduced sarcastically. "Why aren't you at home?" Lenora asked Adelaide in a bitchy tone. Adie shook her head and adjusted herself, so she was sitting more comfortably. "Because you decided to go out and Allen and I needed something to do." She simply explained, which obviously wasn't good enough for her mother.
"You let Allen near Carl? While he has a broken nose, seriously, Adelaide?" Lenora glared at her daughter. Most people describe Lenora Parker in three ways; Stuck up, rich, and bitchy, and right now, the bitchy side was coming right out.
At this point, everyone in the living room was staring at the small family. "First, keep it down, he's sleeping." Adelaide stated. "Second, you dropped him off here!"
"He was actually playing with Debbie." Carl piped up, trying to help the older girl. Lenora shot a glare to the young boy, "Shut it, troublemaker." She growled. Adelaide shook her head for what felt like the hundreth time that night, "Okay, mom, out." She slowly stood up, trying her hardest to not wake her brother, who she picked up bridal style to take him home.
"Don't tell me what to do, girly." Her mother growled at her. "Out." Adelaide spoke. Annoyed, Lenora left the house, but not before shooting a dirty look to the Gallaghers and Kev and V. Adie sighed and apologized to the group for her mothers druken antics. "Thanks for trying to help, Carl." She grinned to Carl, who shot her a smile and a thumbs up.
Adie then said her goodnights to the group and left, her socked feet immediately freezing up due to the cold concrete. She walked back to her house and struggled to open the door with her brother in her arms, but she eventually got it and she walked inside to her mother sitting on the couch watching tv. "Don't you ever speak to me like that again, Adelaide." Adelaide sighed and glared at her mother.
"Mom, you're drunk, go to bed." She said knowing damn well her mother was just gonna end up falling asleep on the couch watching some low budget romance movie. Lenora directed her attention back at the tv and kept quiet.
Adelaide quietly walked upstairs and into her younger brothers room. She gently placed him onto his bed and pulled his covers over top of him. She ran a hand through her hair and turned to leave as Allen grabbed her hand. "Hey, Birdie?" He said quietly.
Adelaide turned back towards her brother and looked down at him, "Yeah, bud?" She asked. "Why is mom always getting drunk?" He questioned. The question shot through Adelaide like an arrow. Their mother had been drinking since their dad left them, which was tough on the two kids. Lenora was surprisingly able to keep her alcholism hidden, she was even able to keep her job, able to move across the city, all while keeping up her happy and peppy persona. Having an absent dad and a semi-alcoholic mother is never easy, but it was really rough on the Parker kids, especially since the two of them were dealing with problems of their own. Adelaide with her anxiety and being bullied and Allen with the exact same thing, plus his developmental issues.
Over the years, the two began depending on each other because the genuinely didn't know if they could depend on their mother, who had spiraled into a deep depression and alcoholism. Allen quickly grew separation anxiety from his sister, which was rough on it's own, but it's also brought the two closer together. Adelaide would genuinely do anything for her little brother, she loved him more than anything in the world and even though he's old enough to know about addiction, it still pains Adelaide to have to attempt to explain to him why their own mother had spiraled into it.
Adelaide choked on her words, unable to make a valid excuse for her mothers drinking. "Is it cause dad left? Or because of us?" Allen questioned. Adelaide shook her head, "Definitely not because of us. Not you at least. Maybe cause of dad, but honestly, I'm not entirely sure, little bug." Adie ran her hand through her brothers hair and weakly smiled at him. He lightly nodded, not wanting to push the topic further.
Adelaide leaned down and kissed Allens forehead. "I love you, bug." She smiled down to him. "I love you too, bird." He smiled ever wider than Adie. She stood up and walked to the door. "Goodnight, buddy." She closed his bedroom door and walked to her own.
