CHAPTER ONE
"i know i might regret it, but.. got to do the job," kate said as she was going up when she reached the top, she turned around then looked at her phone it was gree she picked it up and put it on speaker "Kate, be careful. Because if you two get caught, y'all are definitely off the archery time," emily said. Kate laughed and got her bow and arrow ready.
"I know, I know. But a bet's a bet, Greer. Okay, so the real question. Does the bell swing back and forth, or the dangly thingy swing back and forth?" Kate asked them all. "The bell, I think," gree answered her.
"See? I would disagree. I think it's the dangly thingy," Kate shot back "Nice outfits by the way," emily complicated her, "Yeah, well, sometimes you gotta dress the part," Kate told her as Kate extended her arms as they let arrows fly towards the bell. But that wasn't good enough as the arrows hit the bell, but it only made a small ding and Kate groaned angrily. "Well, that was a letdown," gree said on the phone. But Kate wasn't gonna give up. She looked down at another one of her arrows to shoot at the bell. she smiled, and when gree and emily were going they heard the bell ringing
"YES!" kate shouted The bell was hitting the walls around it hard. "I mean, it's giving the bell character. All famous bells have cracks in them," Kate said. But she was praying that those walls wouldn't break"oh no.." kate said holding her hands on her lips.
"i am in deep shit" Kate said as she was walking down and when she entered the penthouse "Good evening Miss Bishop and Mr. Dune," the doorman greeted them with a warm smile. Kate knew the doorman from when she would visit all the time."How's it going? Good? Wife, kids, all good?" Kate asked the doorman. The doorman nodded while closing the door to the penthouse.
"All good, all good. Merry Christmas!" he exclaimed. Kate kept walking toward the elevator, and kate replied "Merry Christmas!" Kate's mom lived almost at the top of the building, which was a little way up on the elevator.
When Kate finally walked into the penthouse, they were greeted by Kate's mom, Eleanor Bishop. "Hey sweetie! " Eleanor Bishop called from the living room.
"Hey mom!" Kate yelled.
Eleanor Bishop stepped out from the living room and smiled at the two's presence. Eleanor was wearing a beautiful red dress that looked fab. "There you are!" Eleanor said once she saw them. Kate walked up and hugged her mom. Eleanor placed a kiss on her daughter's cheek.
"Wow, you look amazing! What are we looking all fancy for?" Kate asked her mom, helping her with the back of her dress. "Charity auction," Eleanor responded. Kate groaned. She hated charity auctions.
"Ugh!" Kate groaned. "I know right? All those poor people and nonprofits relying on the more fortunate," Eleanor smirkingly said. "That is not what I meant," Kate told her. "And as much as I'm happy about having you home for the holidays, I'm not thrilled that I'm about to replace an irreplaceable clock tower," Eleanor said, glaring at Kate. Kate's eyes got big after hearing her mom say that. She knew that was gonna come up soon.
"It was a bell tower," kate mumbled because last time she broke her ex-English teacher's window, . Eleanor rolled her eyes and started walking away, toward the main room.
"The Dean said it had a bell and a clock, and the overachievers that you are, you managed to destroy both," Eleanor told them, pointing at her Kate shook her head and hrugged, now starting to feel the guilt.
"What can I do to make it better, mom?" Kate asked.
"I started by canceling your credit card, and I'm gonna have a much longer talk with you two about this tower that you destroyed, without joking," Eleanor told her. She paused for a moment and leaned a little bit on the table in front of her. "I know young people think they're invincible, and rich people think they're invincible, and you've always been both, Kate," Eleanor said. "So take it from someone who hasn't, you're not. You will get hurt. So please, don't go looking for it," Eleanor concluded.
Kate groaned
"Sorry, mom. Sorry,"
Eleanor smiled "You know, you get that from your father," Eleanor said to Kate. "Why don't you two start making it up to me by putting on that red dress in your bedroom and coming with me tonight? " Eleanor told
"and you want me to go to that boring Charity auction like the always," kate said "yes," Eleanor told "Um, okay. On another note," Kate started and pulled out a gold medal from her back pocket. "I got a new one for the case. U.S. Open Martial Arts Championship, the person who i was fighting was very good, but you know..never give up.." Kate told her mom. Eleanor smiled as she looked at the medal. "You're amazing.. I still remember when you got your black belt at fifteen," Eleanor gushed. She was very proud of her daughter. "You might have to retire some from when you were little to make room. Huh?" she told her daughter, walking into another room.
"I like those," Kate said.
"I do, too, hon," Eleanor said, putting her coat on. Kate looked at the sword and rolled her eyes she came back only to find her mother's boyfriend things around, yes kate wasn't very fond of Jack. She thought that he was a liar she always thought.
"What's with all of the swords, mom?" kate asked. Eleanor hesitated for a moment before answering her. "Uh, there have been a few changes while you were both away this semester," Eleanor started saying. But before Kate could continue listening, Jack walked in. He was wearing a black suit with a rose in his mouth. Eleanor's eyes lit up when Jack walked in, "Jack!" Kate exclaimed, trying a little bit to be nice to him. Jack chuckled a little bit when he saw Johnny and Kate standing there.
"Oh! What an unexpected surprise!" Jack said.
"All surprises are unexpected," Kate told him. Jack kept smiling awkwardly at her "Thank you. Okay kate, we'll see you at the party and there is lot more to talk about Kate. Lot's more to talk about," Eleanor said as her and Jack walked into the elevator to leave, leaving Kate standing there alone.
