"You doing okay?" Alexa asked Hawk the next day in class, keeping an eye on Tory as she approached him near the mirror.
"Yeah." he shrugged.
Alexa hesitated. "He's okay, if you wanted to know. I stayed at the hospital until after surgery."
Hawk looked down, not saying anything. Alexa poked his arm. "Don't clam up on me. You're the only one i've got left."
"What about Tory?" he gave a questionable look.
"Love her to death. Would do anything for her." Alexa nodded. "But, it's different. We've been here since the beginning. No more Miguel, no Demetri, no Aisha. It's just the two of us now. We have to stick together."
Hawk gave a little smile. "Got it."
"Hey." Tory walked toward the pair. "What's going on?"
"Trigonometry." Alexa pursed her lips. "You?"
Tory gave an odd look. "You don't even take trigonometry."
"Preparing for the future, woman." she held her hands up defensively. "I'm trying to get into good colleges."
Tory gave her a little grin. "Did you hear about the new recruits?"
"We're getting new recruits?" Hawk sat up some.
"After all the cuts that got made." Tory nodded her head. "Sensei Kreese said you helped him, Lex."
"Me?" she looked oddly. "No, I didn't even know he was looking for anyone."
Tory shrugged. "Maybe he got it confused."
"You know how old people get." Alexa whispered, cracking a grin as the duo did the same. The bell on the door going off caught her attention, looking up. Alexa's entire heart fell in the pit of her stomach.
Kyler.
As a habit, her hands went to reach for her glasses. They hadn't been there, she dropped her hands in embarrassment. All the glasses she had because he'd break them, all the times he'd grab her face and mock her. She managed to avoid him at all cost, that was ruined now as he walked in. Tory shrugged. "They seem good enough."
She noticed the pairs silence, giving an odd look. "The two of you silent? Shocker."
Hawk walked toward Kreese quickly, Tory looked at Alexa. "What's wrong, Lex?"
"Nothing." she cleared her throat slightly. "We should warm up, yeah?"
"I'm gonna call you guys...Chodenose and Taintbreath." Mitch walked forward as he looked at Brucks and Kyler.
"What the hell did you just say?" Kyler stepped forward as his words.
"Oh, uh, nothing. It's just this thing we do around here sometimes." he laughed slightly, looking around the dojo. Kyler jumped his way slightly, Mitch jumped back. Alexa avoided his look, keeping her gaze far away.
"Everyone fall in." Kreese spoke up, Hawk stood infront of him as he gave a little bow, walking off with his head down. He met Alexas eye, they were feeling the same sense of panic. "Joining Cobra Kai is a privilege. It's not a gift. Which is why our recruits must earn their position in this dojo. Prepare yourselves for combat. Only the strong will survive."
"What is with you?" Tory wasn't dumb, she noticed Alexas change immediately.
"I don't want to be here." she looked over at her. "Can we please bail?"
"We can't bail on practice. What's the matter?" she walked a little closer to her.
"Holy shit! You remember? Look, it's the kid with the lip!" Kylers voice had her looking over, seeing him and Brucks standing infront of Hawk. Her eyebrows frowned together as she listened to them gawk. "Yo, I thought he moved."
"Oh, shit. You're right! Right." Brucks laughed, Alexa looked over quickly. "The hair kinda distracts you from it."
His index finger and thumb came up to cover his scar slightly, turning his head. The two continued to laugh before Kreese cut in. "All right, class. Let the games begin."
"Hey!" Alexa cut in before it could go on. She had the back of Kylers head, shoving his face into the mirror. "Don't walk in here and act like you're hot shit. You aren't anything."
"Castillo." Kreese spoke up.
"Told you you were cute without your glasses." Kyler spoke. Alexa shoved his face into the mirror again, it cracked.
"Castillo." Kreese spoke again. Alexa yanked Kyler back, punching him in the jaw and kicking his legs out from under him. "Castillo."
"Watch yourself." she warned him from the ground, staring before looking to Kreese. "Sorry, Sensei Kreese."
He shook his head, because that's what he wanted. He pointed at Kyler when he stood up. "You."
Brucks cheered him on as Kyler walked forward. Kreese pointed at Mitch. "You."
He smiled, walking to the middle of the mat as they took their positions. "Maybe you can prove you can defeat one of the weaker. Ready? Ais!"
With ease, Mitch kicked him in the face and had him stumbling backwards to clutch his nose. Kyler shook his head. "Now you're dead."
Mitch swung at him again, Kyler backing up, ducking under his leg, swing half of Mitch's body over his shoulder so he hit the ground, arms tightening around his neck. Hawk looked over at Alexa as she gave a little nod. Mitch tapped the ground, the flag raising to score the point. Kreese looked straight to Hawk after. Kyler stood up with a wave of his arms down to the boy on the mat. Kreese smirked. "Finish him."
Kyler hit Mitch in the nose, a pained noise leaving his mouth as he hit the mat again. Kyler joined Brucks again. "Yo, lights out, baby."
Mitch stood up as Kreese interfered. "Where are you doing?"
"To my spot." he said back innocently.
"You lost to an untrained fighter. He's going to take your spot on this team." Kreese corrected him with a knowing look.
"All right!" Brucks announced. Alexa and Hawk shared another look.
"Sensei, Assface has been loyal to the dojo." Hawk stepped forward, leaving their spot.
Kreese stared a second. "I'm afraid he's not...Cobra Kai material. I told you, only the strong will survive."
Assface left, Hawk joined Alexaย again. Kyler reached to tap her arm. She looked over at Kyler, he was staring at her, he nodded. She sighed, but nodded her head back. Her and Hawk pressed close together, they both wanted to leave.
"You. Big boy." Kreese spoke up to Brucks.
"Oh, yeah! All right, who's going down next?" Brucks jumped around the mat, hyped up and grinning widely. "Come on."
"He's mine." Hawks tone changed, a angry, vicious glare across his face as he walked forward.
Alexa held her head up a little higher.
"Okay, all right. Let's see if I can fix that lips of yours then." Brucks mocked, Hawks back was to his, yanking his gi off to reveal the large back tattoo. Alexa looked to see Kreese waved the boy with the flags off, making him let it down. Alexa swallowed, she reached for her glasses, they hadn't been there.
Hawk twisted around on his legs, kicking Brucks right in the face, following it with a punch to the jaw and another to the stomach. Brucks tried to fight back, but Hawk had hit him three more times in the nose, kneeing him in the ribs twice.
"Wait. Stop." Brucks begged when Hawk let him go. He grasped hold of his body, swinging them around to hit the mat, Hawk ontop of him.
"Finish him!" Kreese called out.
Hawk gave violent grunts as he laid his fist into Brucks face over and over again, Alexa felt slightly sick as she watched. Between each hit, she was thinking back to before Cobra Kai existed. How they would sit in Demetris basement and giggle together. Look at them now. She watched with wide eyes, blinking every few seconds. Brucks' blood coated his knuckles, Kreese chuckled slightly.
Hawk stood up after a second, the boy not moving on the mat as he was spit on to finish it off. Hawk walked off the mat, glaring harshly into the side of Kylers face
"All right, class. I think we can call it a day." Kreese spoke up, shaking his head at Brucks. "Someone pick him up."
"Let's get out of here." Hawk looked at Alexa, holding his hand out. His bloody hand, held out to her. She took it. They left.
Tory watched, because she'd never understand the bond they had. Because she didn't know. No one did aside one boy, who's arm was broken by one, and his heart by the other.
