A

It was all hopeless in the end, so why try?

No, maybe I shouldn't.

~°☐°~

You didn't get a good night's sleep at all. Your thoughts were plagued by none other than Shouto Todoroki, and what you had seen at the cafe yesterday. Every time you thought of him, of his soft smile, you felt rough petals rising in your throat and fought the urge to scream in frustration.

But you didn't know why.

Why would you scream, when your heart was slowly shattering?

It didn't make sense.

You had kept a small bucket beside your bed, leaning over to hack up petals — no, not petals. They were entire flowers now, and you sometimes wondered if you were going to die. Yes, there was the surgery, but you didn't want to lose the ability to love.

You wouldn't be human anymore, without love.

So, now, you sat in class, silently wondering why you should fight to stay alive.

It was all useless in the end, anyways.

Even though that was the case, you had learned to act natural and hide the fast that flowers grew in your lungs, entwined with the respiratory organs and slowly suffocating you. You were still the happy-go-lucky goody-two-shoes with sparkly eyes and bright smiles on the outside.

No one saw.

No one knew.

No one was able to tell the difference.

"Next, Todoroki vs Yaoyorozu," droned Aizawa, and you clenched your fist in your lap as you looked up to see the pair step onto the field to spar in their hero costumes. "3..2..1.."

"Begin."

Almost immediately, ice exploded from Todoroki's right foot, speeding towards Momo. Dodging and running left, a long pole emerged from her forearm and she swung it towards the left of his head. Todoroki's eyes widened, and he lifted up him forearms to block, skidding back a few meters.

Aiming a punch to her shoulder, he successfully delivered the blow, causing Momo to clench her jaw. Lifting his leg in a kick, Momo's eyes widened and she jumped back, watching Todoroki warily. You saw a flash of worry crossing Todoroki's face, below he walked over to where Momo was standing once more, another pole in her hand.

"I forfeit." he spoke slowly, and Aizawa nodded before dismissing them and calling up the next group, Mina and Tsu.

You didn't pay attention, for your eyes were watching as Todoroki and Momo conversed, small smiles visible on both their faces. As you felt rough flowers rise up in your throat, you sighed, standing up and walking towards the bathroom as calmly as you could.

Halfway, you were met by Kaminari and Sero, who both lit up at the sight of you.

"Yo, [y/n] bro!" yelled Kaminari, waving you over. Not wanting to seem suspicious, you gave them a grin in response and pushed the flowers down for later.

"Hey, Sero, hey, Denki," you spoke, walking up to them. Sero had a grin on his face, and Kaminari had bursts of electricity covering his body as he shook. You raised an eyebrow.

"We're pranking Bakubro today, after school! You want in?" questioned Sero, and you shook your head, smiling a bit as you waved your hands in front of you.

"No thanks," you spoke, swallowing the flowers once more. "Besides, what makes you think that's a good idea?"

"Nothing! Bakubro just needs to loosen up," said Kaminari, patting you on the back. "Besides, if you help us, we won't die!" he added, and a redhead popped out from behind them.

"Bros, any luck in convincing [y/n]?" asked Kirishima, and you deadpanned.

"Kiri, I'm right here." you spoke, and he looked over at you with a large grin, displaying his sharp teeth.

"Oh hey, [y/n]!" he said, draping an arm around Kaminari and Sero, looking down at you. Curse your short height. "So, are you joining us?" he questioned, and you shook your head in response.

"No, I-" the clear feeling of flowers, and something harder scraping against your throat made you panic, and you tried to get away before your three friends caught on.

"Come on, [y/n] bro!" pleaded Kaminari, and you shook your head, small and unnoticeable tears welling up in your eyes.

"No-" as a series of coughs emerged from your throat, you placed a hand over your mouth.

"[y/n], are you okay?" this time, they addressed you without the 'bro', which showed you now serious they really were.

"I'm fine-" another series of cough racked your body, and you felt something hard and sharp prodding your throat, threatening to rip it open.

"I-" tried to walked away, you doubled over as flowers and thorns burst from your mouth, falling to the floor and staining it a bright red.

"WHAT THE HELL?!" yelled Sero, as he tried again, rushing over to your side to aid you. Kaminari and Kirishima followed suit, watching you with worry clear in their eyes.

"[y/n], [y/n]? Are you oka-" they were cut off with another series of coughs escaping you, red and white flowers.

"Recovery gi-" you didn't get to finish before tears spilled, choking you up even more. You felt a pair of arms lift you up, and the wind rush past your face as the person holding you ran.

"OI, FUCKERS, OUTTA THE FUCKING WAY" you heard a voice roar, and you were pretty sure it was Bakugo who was currently yelling, and trying to get you to Recovery Girl on time.

Yes, you had been officially adopted by Katsuki Bakugo.

"Hey, Katsu," you spoke, and promptly blacked out from the pain in your chest and throat before the hot-headed boy could respond.

When you came to, you were laying down on a bed in Recovery Girl's office, and five pairs of eyes were staring you down menacingly. You sweat dropped, fighting the urge to shrink down into the white covers.

Aka the entire Bakusquad.

Plus Bakugo.

If it weren't for the predicament you were in at the moment, you would've laughed at how you were practically a Bakugo now. Damn pomeranian adopted you.

"Hey, guys," you greeted, sitting up and cracking your neck. Immediately, Bakugo's glare hardened and he crossed his arms over his chest. You would've laughed at how he looked like an angry, puffed up pomeranian if it weren't for the fact that he towered over you.

"What the fuck was that earlier?" he demanded, and you decided to play dumb.

"What was what?" you questioned, sitting up and crossing you legs as you leaned against the bedpost.

"Don't you fuck with me," he snarled, starting forwards to yank on your uniform. Bakugo then paused, crossing his arms once more. "You were coughing up fucking flowers and petals earlier!"  blinking, you huffed.

"I'm fine," you spoke, and the entire Bakusqaud deadpanned at you, squinting. "I swear!" you protested, throwing up your arms in exasperation.

You weren't.

"You've got the hanahaki disease," said Mina quietly, before looking up at you and tilting her head. "Right?" Bakugo whirled around, grabbing Mina.

"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!" she waited for him to set her down, before proceeding to explain to the guys. You ignored them, feeling flowers crawling up your throat.

"Ack-" this time, only thorns came out. They were twisted, sharp and deadly, the complete opposite of the flowers that bloomed and came with them.

They shouldn't be together.

Just like you and Todoroki.

One was perfect, and was easily picked off from their stem, and carried away into another place. They would also be easily tainted, and deserved the best.

That was Todoroki.

You were the thorns that curled around him, slowing him down.

He should be free of you.

You had helped him once, protecting him just as the thorns protected the flowers. You had circled him, guarding him, supporting him.

But now he was different.

He grew up.

He grew stronger.

He didn't need you anymore.

"[y/n]!" rushing forwards, Mina rubbed circles on your back while Bakugo stood in front. Sero, Kirishima and Kaminari stood off to the sides, sweat glistening on their faces while their fists were clenched.

"You better get the fucking surgery, you know," said Bakugo, and you looked up, blood dripping from your lips and onto the pristine white sheets.

"I'm not." you stated, and could feel the entire Bakusqaud flinch.

"WHY THE FUCK NOT?!" roared Bakugo, and you could've sworn you saw a tear slip down his cheek before vanishing.

"I don't want to lose the ability to love," you spoke quietly, looking down at the red specks on the white sheets. "Nor do I wish to lose my feelings for Todoroki."

"YOU'RE BEING SELFISH!" spat Bakugo, and your anger bubbled.

"I know I am," you added, before looking him dead in the eye, [e/c] meeting burning red. "But, maybe I want to be."

The entire group of friends stiffened, and Bakugo wiped furiously at his eyes before storming out. Kirishima followed, but more before stopped to give you a sad look.

"I'm going to see if he's okay," the red-head said, and disappeared out the door. Sero and Kaminari looked over at you, before following.

"I hope you change your decision, [y/n]." spoke Mina, before gently patting you shoulder and walking out. Your fists clenched, and you let tears escape.

You didn't know why your tear glands weren't empty yet.

You knew they were disappointed you chose someone who's never love you back over them, your friends ever since you came to U.A. You knew they were mad at you, but maybe that was better.

It would help them get over your death.

"Dear, perhaps you should lie down," a voice spoke, and you looked up to see Recovery girl standing in the doorway. Looking away, your gaze settled back on the crimson splotches.

"How long do I have to live?" you questioned, and her eyes seemed to sadden. "Please don't sugar coat it."

You knew the answer wouldn't be good news.

"Three days at most."
