Chapter 4

"Nope." Taehyung shook his head, frowning at his camera. I let out a tired sigh.

We were getting nowhere, and I was done with life.

"I'm hungry!" Jungkook whined.

"Me too." I agreed just as my stomach growled loudly. Taehyung and Jungkook turned to have a staring contest at my stomach as I patted it. "Don't stare. You're making her shy."

"Let's go get something to eat then?" Taehyung suggested, poking my stomach which made me laugh involuntarily.

"Yeah but we wandered off and now-" I paused, looking to the left side.

Why were there so many beautiful trees all of a sudden?

Walking in that direction, I saw a small gate. Being curious, I walked that way.

"Wait!" They both followed me as I finally came to a stop.

"What the- this place looks so beautiful!" Jungkook looked around in surprise. There were trees around and a wide path right ahead of us. The ground was covered with dry leaves on the side.

"Woah." Taehyung took a breath before running ahead and screaming nonsense. I chuckled at his cuteness.

"How have we never come across this place before?" I wondered, looking around at the tall trees that looked so unrealistically beautiful.

"I don't even kn-" Jungkook paused mid-sentence as he stared at the distant figure of Taehyung, who was now walking.

"Oh my God." He breathed out. Taking his camera, he took a photo of Taehyung's back without him noticing and showed it to me.

"Wow." I let out. This was it.

Jungkook found his perfect shot.

"What's up, guys?" Taehyung came back and huffed a little, short of breath due to all the running and walking around.

"Kookie found his perfect shot," I told him. "And you're in it."

Taehyung flipped his hair.

"My handsome face for the win again." He said smugly, making us laugh.

"Well, your handsome back," Jungkook said before showing the picture.

"Wow. That looks awesome!" Tae said, complimenting his picture. Suddenly remembering something, he spoke up again.

"Hey guys, as I ran forward I found a small cafe near a fairly empty street. I still wonder how we haven't bumped into this place before. Wanna go there and check it out?" He asked excitedly, making me nod rapidly.

"Yes please," Jungkook said as his eyes shined.

"Follow me," Tae said before running off. I groaned, already feeling tired from seeing Tae run.

"Do I have to run?" I let out, hoping to just teleport to the cafe.

"Yes. Now c'mon." Jungkook said before taking my hand and making me run behind him.

It was a simple gesture that was common among many people. Holding hands wasn't a big deal, for couples or friends.

Yet my heart decided to make a big deal out of it.

I couldn't tell if it was because of the running or him holding my hand, but my heart started beating faster.

Probably running.

Shaking my head for feeling like a smitten puppy, I pushed those thoughts away.

You're not doing this to yourself, Mira. You're going to move on. You're not going through a one-sided love story.

I agreed with the rational side of my brain and temporarily put an end to these cheesy thoughts.

We finally came to a stop. I looked at the cute cafe in front of us.

"Let's go!" Tae cheered.

"Where the hell do you both get this energy from?" I wondered out loud as Jungkook ran behind him excitedly. Walking at my own pace, I followed them.

"This place smells awesome," Jungkook remarked as I took a deep breath in. It was a faint scent of coffee beans and vanilla essence.

"It does." I agreed before looking around. There was a woman near the counter who smiled at us, making us smile back. It was a comfortable silence as we took a seat and looked at the cute handmade menu in front of us.

"These people are creative," I commented, opening it to see what was available.

"You should look at the aesthetic decorations on the side. It looks awesome." Taehyung said.

"What would you three like to have?" A man asked us as my eyes skimmed through the menu.

"I'd like a white mocha and a chocolate chip cookie, thank you," I said kindly as he nodded and wrote it down. As Tae and Jungkook gave their orders, I got up and walked around, admiring the place.

The place was fairly packed for an odd hour, making me realise that this cute cafe had quite a few people coming in here. I wonder how just two people seem to manage everything around.

Going near the window, I stared at the view. It wasn't much, just a street that was pretty empty except for a few people walking around.

Just near the window sill, there was a glass placed with a small candle beside it. It gave off an aesthetic vibe and looked beautiful.

Beautiful...enough to be my picture?

I looked at the small decorations, wondering if this could be it.

"Excuse me?" I asked nervously as the woman near the counter from before looked at me. "Do you mind if I just change a few things here and take a picture? It's for a project...I'll set them all back again!" I promised as I waited for a hopefully positive answer.

"Go ahead." She said kindly, making me grin happily.

I arranged the decorations the way I liked them, making sure the lighting and the angle was perfect. Placing the candle slightly to the right, I took my camera and snapped a picture.

It was simple yet perfect.

"Thank you so much!" I bowed slightly before setting everything back to the way it was. Giddy with happiness and a sense of satisfaction that I rarely felt, I went back to join my friends.

"There you are! Where'd ya go?" Tae asked as he sipped on his hot chocolate.

"Just getting a perfect shot," I said happily.

"Me too! Wanna look?" He asked excitedly, making me nod.

"That looks awesome!" I said truthfully.

"Mhm! I'm glad they gave the marshmallow on the plate so I could arrange them the way I wanted." Tae said happily, warming my heart.

"So we're finally done with the project. And on time too!" Jungkook said, a hint of shock evident in his voice.

We all sat in silence, wondering how in the hell did we manage to finish a project before the deadline.

"Well, this is new," Tae said, happily sipping his hot chocolate. "I could get used to this."

"My lazy procrastinating ass could never," I said cheerily as I sipped my white mocha, sighing in delight.

Holy shit. This place was good at what it did.

"Mood." Jungkook snorted as he finally got his order.

"This cafe is so awesome. I love it." I said, taking a bite of my cookie. Something about this place was so calm and inviting, I just loved it. And the cookies were simply delicious.

"Yeah. It's way better than the cafe I work at." Jungkook commented as he took a bite of the chocolate cake he ordered.

"Speaking of that, I was planning to quit." He admitted, making Taehyung choke on his drink.

"What's wrong?" I asked, concerned.

Jeon Jungkook was not a quitter. And if he wants to quit, something must've happened.

"The boss in that cafe makes me feel uncomfortable..." He said, trailing off and he rubbed his upper arm in unease.

I don't like the sound of that. And judging the serious expression Tae had, neither did he.

"I'll admit, the pay is good, but I'd rather work at a calm place where the coffee tastes good and people don't stare at me like I'm some kind of snack," Jungkook said.

"I think you should quit too. If they make you uncomfortable, no matter what the pay, it's not worth it." I patted him on the back.

"Yeah. I'm not sure where to find another job though..." he said, looking nervous.

"Don't worry about it. You'll find something. And we can support you until then. Don't hesitate to ask us anything." Tae said as I nodded rather aggressively.

"If you dare hesitate I will bitch slap you," I said seriously, making him chuckle.

"I know you will. Thanks, guys." He said sincerely, making us smile.

"On another note, I think the looks are going to continue no matter where you go, Kook. It's the sad truth."

"Oh, I know. Being this handsome comes with a price." He sighed dramatically.

"I can't relate." I chirped and finished my drink.

Taehyung finished his drink before speaking up again. "You look decent, Mira. Nothing compared to my looks of course, but you look pretty compared to the other people I see." Taehyung said making Jungkook nod.

"I agree with him. You do look pretty." Jungkook said.

Compliments- sort of- from both of them made me smile. I knew I looked decent and my definition of pretty is different, but being called pretty makes me feel more confident about myself.

Though their way of saying it removed a little bit of my satisfaction, I'll take what I can get.

"I know, you both. Thanks for the half-compliment half-bragging about your looks, Tae." I giggled before adding a wink.

Jungkook and Taehyung chuckled at my flirtatious look and comment. Taehyung pretended to be shy and swatted my hand away as Jungkook cackled.

I wiggled my eyebrows at both of them while winking rather weirdly, making Taehyung join the cackling fest.

People should learn to flirt from me.

"I'm gonna go and pay guys," Jungkook said before standing up.

"You sure?" I asked. He did just talk about quitting. I didn't want him to be low on money.

"Yeah. Technically I still didn't quit and besides, you both paid the last five times." He said.

"If you're sure about it..." I said uncertain but gave up. Arguing with Jungkook is like arguing with a wall. It's pointless and makes you feel stupid.

Then again, I feel stupid all the time.

"Next time we go out, it's on me," I stated and stood up with Tae.

"We're gonna stay outside. You should probably see if there are any jobs available here, Koo. You do seem fond of the place and even though it's a little far from our Uni, I think you can manage." I told him.

"I'm not sure if they'll hire me..." He trailed off, uncertain.

"You can always try. I'm not sure if they have any openings but this place does seem fairly packed and I only see about 2 workers. Just try and talk to the owner." Tae said.

"Good luck!" I waved before leaving the cafe with Tae.

"What's the time?" I asked, making him look at his watch.

"5 PM. Wow, we finished up pretty early huh?"

"Yeah. I thought we wouldn't go home until it was 8 PM or something."

"I thought so too." He said before putting an arm around my shoulder, making me smile on reflex.

"Why does everyone do that?" I asked, not complaining but just curious.

"You're shorter than us, so you're our armrest," Tae explained. I shrugged, not minding it. At first, it was annoying, but you get used to it.

I sighed in contentment as the wind blew softly. It was slightly cold outside with grey clouds hiding the unforgiving sun.

I loved days like these.

The door jingled and we looked to see Jungkook coming out of the cafe.

"They told me they would want to interview me first to see if I can work here or not and if I do have experience. So yay?" He said. Taehyung and I looked at each other before smiling widely.

"Yay!"

We all did a mini happy dance, completely ignoring the few people who decided to stare and judge us.

And just like that, I knew that without these two, life would never be the same.

Even if I can't date Jungkook, I'm fine with that. As long as I have him in my life and he's happy, I'll be fine.

I loved him enough to let go.

Sometimes, you love people enough to let go, even when it hurts you. That's when you know, your love is sincere and you've grown up to be a wonderful person. Just know that I'm proud of you.
