Chapter 2

༺°☆◦ •○●✿●○• ◦☆°༻

Today was not a great day.

So far, we've had the most boring lessons that could put an insomniac to sleep. And on top of that, lunch is dangerously close.

Don't get me wrong, I love food. And a break from these lessons sounds good to me, but I'm dreading the thought of eating with Y/N.

On one hand, I'd love to make new friends. On the other hand, it feels like I'm setting up Jungkook and Y/N together.

That is not my goal, but it feels like it will happen anyway.

Mentally sighing at the bell, I dumped my unorganized bag into the locker, not bothering to keep my books ready for the next lesson as I yawned.

Why do that when I can fumble around in panic 5 minutes after the class starts?

Nothing like adrenaline pumping in my veins as I try to sneak into the class without getting caught.

"Oh my God. You're so slow." Taehyung whined at my speed as I dragged my feet onto the floor, not wanting to go.

"I'm sleepy," I grumbled, yawning.

"Don't tell me you were on your phone again." He said with a stern gaze, making me laugh nervously.

"I wasn't on my phone..." I said truthfully.

"Good." He nodded.

"I was using the laptop." I smiled sheepishly, making him stop in his tracks.

He hit my head with his textbook, making me wince.

"Ow," I said but took it, knowing that if I dodged, it would only get worse.

"I swear to God, if I catch you not getting enough sleep one more time, I'm going to steal all of your electronics and sell them on eBay." He threatened, making me raise my hands in mock surrender.

"Okay, mom," I spoke, coming to a stop after seeing the cafeteria a few feet away.

"What...are you doing?" Taehyung asked, tilting his head in confusion as I had a staring match with the cafeteria sign.

It seemed to be mocking me, daring me to take a step in.

And I never back away from a dare.

Pssh.

Okay, that was a lie. If it's a ridiculous dare, of course, I'm gonna back out to save myself.

Pride does not come above life.

Right now though, my stomach is grumbling for some food like a starved monster. So I'm going in.

"Nothing at all. Let's go." I said, walking inside. He shook his head, probably brushing it off as my weird self.

He's not wrong.

Preparing my fake smile since I felt like I might need it, I entered with Taehyung.

We didn't have a usual table, since anyone can sit anywhere. We don't claim places or anything in here. If you come early, you get a good spot. If not...

Sucks to suck I guess.

Thankfully, Jungkook was way too hyped and came in here quite early, finding us a pretty good spot near the small window where we could see the few trees our university planted for show off.

The sun rays complimented his brown hair and beautiful eyes, making them look a shade lighter. He sat there, looking calm and handsome while staring out of the window-

Sike.

You can barely see two to three trees over there through that small dusty window, and you expect the rays of the sun to seep through and fall on him? At noon? When the sun is right above our heads?

Naw fam.

Besides, Jungkook was anything but calm. He looked around, took out his phone, dropped it by accident onto the table, put it back in his pocket, looked like he was about to die, smiled like a creep, choked on his water and sighed every 20 seconds.

These are what I call mood swings.

"Damn Jungkook. You look like you're retarded." Taehyung said, sitting down next to him as I sat across them.

"Well, that's not far from the truth I guess." Tae continued, making me snort.

"Did you see Y/N?" I asked him, and he shook his head in response.

"Guess we just have to wai- oh I see her," I said, waving at her to come to our table as I felt the sense of dread ease down.

"Oh my God." Jungkook breathed out. "I'm going to embarrass myself."

"Yes." Taehyung and I nodded, not denying the truth.

"Hey!" I waved with a bright smile, ignoring the blushing boy in front of me. Y/N gave me a polite smile and waved back.

"Have a seat!" I gestured to the empty seat beside me.

"Y/N, these two are my friends. Taehyung and Jungkook. Tae, Kook, this is Y/N." I introduced them like they didn't know each other.

It's not like Jungkook is practically rambling on and on about her and Taehyung just nods every day and without wanting to, knows everything about Y/N.

"Nice to meet you." She nodded at the two with a smile.

"You too!" Taehyung said, smiling charmingly.

Jungkook on the other hand...

"Uh, do you like mint chocolate ice cream?" Kook asked, blushing immediately due to embarrassment.

Y/N blinked at the sudden random question.

"Um..."

"Ice cream preference tells a lot about a person you see. It's supposed to be a fact. He's testing that so that when he gets to know you more, he can see if it's real or not." I made up a lie to save his crumbling reputation.

"Yeah! It's a thing he does to everyone new he meets." Taehyung went into more detail, making the lie seem more believable.

"Ah, I see. I love vanilla and chocolate the most." She told him, making him nod.

"Ah, that's cool." Jungkook finally said.

Silence.

Not being able to take it anymore, I shoved some food into my mouth. Chewing as silently as possible, I tried not to cringe at the awkward atmosphere around us.

Since I began eating, everyone started too. There was complete silence and nothing happened other than the occasional foot nudges from Taehyung. Jungkook, feeling annoyed returned it with full force, making him grimace in pain.

Y/N was completely oblivious to all this as she ate her apple.

It wasn't silent in the cafeteria. There was usual chatter going on of course, but our table was very quiet.

"So, how's life treating you Y/N?" Taehyung asked, taking a bite of his food and trying to make conversation.

"Not good, but I'll live. Don't know why I have to keep doing this though." She said bluntly, staring at the food in front of her before blinking and blushing slightly in embarrassment.

"Oh...I'm sure it'll get better." Jungkook consoled.

"Thanks." She said, smiling at him.

Jungkook almost fainted.

And that was it. Our conversations came to a halt, and even when we did try, Y/N just didn't seem overly interested.

Not that she was ignoring us, she was talking quite a bit. It's just that everything sounded so forced that we gave up.

All in all, it was a painfully awkward lunch.

I guess not everyone bonds over food.

"Thanks for inviting me. This lunch was...awkward, but I appreciate it. Thank you, all of you!"  Y/N said, her smile seemingly slightly nervous.

Or maybe they do bond, but they're just shy.

We all smiled brightly at her.

"Of course!" Taehyung said happily. "Feel free to join us anytime."

Jungkook and I nodded, agreeing with him.

Blushing slightly due to all the attention on her, she smiled yet again before walking away.

Man, she blushes quite a bit.

"Well that could've gone better, but it could've also gone worse." I shrugged before getting up.

"I think I just died a bit on the inside," Taehyung commented. "That was way too awkward for me."

"..."

We turned to look at the quiet Jungkook, who was looking at the retreating figure of Y/N. He seemed to be thinking deeply, causing my heart to hurt.

Shaking it off, I scoffed at myself.

It's my fault for being a coward. I thought I had made peace with that.

And yet, it hurts to face the consequences.

Jeon Jungkook, why you out of everyone?

Love is not cruel. The people who fake love are.

So stop cursing love out just because of some people and your choices. It's not fair.
