I thought I'll explain a few things before proceeding to the Q/A ^-^ so let's begin

Jungkook tried to push away his feelings for his best friend by doing what I've seen quite a few people do: be in denial and get a 'crush'.

In this case, Y/N seemed like the most likeable person in most people's point of view and hence he chose her to be his fake crush. He didn't want to cause any suspicions so he used the most famous person so that he could be easily considered as one of her fanboys since she was quite famous.

He planned to make it seem like he had a crush on her but just didn't want to pursue her since he was too shy. He tried to fool himself into liking her but that only lasted for a bit of time.

It was just supposed to stay as a crush from afar but his classmates and Mira foiled his plan. Since Mira invited Y/N over to lunch, they were forced to meet.

Trying to use this positively, he talked to her and got closer.

He sincerely did try to harbour feelings for her but failed. Feelings can't be forced. Their friendship was completely true though and he was glad to have made another friend.

As for why he blushed around her so much and stuttered...

Taehyung and Mira were not idiots, so he had to be careful as to how he acted. So he decided to play the role of 'stupid best friend who's a fanboy' so that they wouldn't catch on about his true feelings for Mira.

He's a brilliant actor and only let people know what he wanted them to know. He made people believe that he was Y/N's no. 1 fanboy because he wanted that.

In other words...

Jungkook: I want it, I got it.

Sorry I'll stop ._.

Eventually, he realised just how wrong it was to do this. He was leading a girl on to her possibly first heartbreak, so he decided to put a stop to it.

And then he came to know that Y/N wanted to talk about Jisoo and her crush on her, not asking Jungkook out.

He was shocked but mostly relieved. He decided that he was tired of pretending and let his guard down a little, letting the smart gang know as to how he has feelings for Mira.

They caught on, as expected by him, so he decided to take a break from this whole mess. He skipped Uni for about a month without much notice which made them believe that he was leaving forever, but it was just a small break.

During this time, his mother was annoyed that her son came back and wasn't willing to give up on his dream that 'would only cause trouble'.

He ignored her and had some much-needed bonding time with his dad instead.

They didn't click instantly or become the best dad son due within a month, but they sure had a better relationship than before.

He also made his decision which would affect quite a lot of people who he cares about.

Coming back, he apologized for leaving without proper notice. After hugging and crying it out, he 'admitted' that he was slowly losing feelings for Mira since she was now dating Taehyung.

He told them that he thought it over and decided that it was stupid to abandon his friendship of years for his 'feelings that were fading away'.

As I said, Jeon Jungkook was an excellent actor and a genius.

He managed to convince everyone- including Taehyung- and let this matter drop while he tried to tame his feelings.

Unfortunately, the feelings only grew and grew until they bloomed into a sad one-sided love story as I mentioned in the story.

He did not do anything about it and never let anyone know except for his brother.

Mhm! The same brother that I barely mentioned in the book had a major role to play in Jungkook's life.

They talked quite a bit about it and just decided to follow whatever Jungkook wanted to do because he was stubborn and never let anyone change his choices.

Reluctantly so, his brother just stayed as a quiet spectator and grew a small distaste for Mira and Taehyung since he has his overprotective brother side.

Of course, nothing could be done. So he pushed away this feeling since he knew that Mira and Taehyung were just living their lives.

Eventually, Jungkook decided that he would just leave his feelings as they were and put his whole attention onto his studies and career.

Something changed though, and his passion for photography wasn't the same anymore. He was clueless and lost. Everything was changing so fast, he had no idea what to do.

Until he started writing.

Immediately, he knew that this was it. This was his passion. He wanted to be a writer.

His mom was still very stubborn and continuously put him down which affected him for obvious reasons. He may have disowned her but words still hurt.

She continued to do so until her usually submissive ex-husband snapped one day and went on a huge rant.

This made her quiet as she thought about her actions. Was she that bad that she made her quiet ex-husband snap at her that badly?

She realised that she indeed was the bad guy all along.

To redeem herself since the guilt was overpowering, she began by starting to support Jungkook. It wasn't sincere, but she had to start somewhere.

Eventually, (took a few years) she saw how happy it made him and melted. Jungkook had that power to make everyone melt after all.

And so, she sincerely started supporting him which changed his life for the better.

He never let his love for Mira dominate his whole life since he knew that was pointless. And he wasn't the kind to worship her either. He had true feelings for her, but he also had a life to live. And so, he lived.

He took permission from Mira to use a part of her life since it was 'interesting' and 'gave him inspiration'.

What he aimed for was to know her point of view and lose his feelings for her when she told him the truth.

Needless to say, it did not work. Especially when he came to know about just how long she had feelings for him.

He felt stupid to-

No.

He was stupid to not notice how obvious it was.

After coming to know all this, he decided to write and publish his first book. Second Lead.

He never really expected it to be successful to this extent but he surprised himself and the others with his writing skills.

Throughout the whole time, Mira stayed as a supportive friend for him which only made it worse since he couldn't get rid of his feelings.

Ah. If only Mira was a bitch instead.

But she wasn't, and he decided to let his feelings be. He wouldn't tell anyone else of course, since he was worried that it would ruin Mira and Taehyung's relationship.

What a great friend.

He stayed as a supportive friend too and helped Taehyung out while he proposed, making a last effort to get rid of his feelings.

He thought that maybe seeing his best friend propose to his first love would make his feelings go away.

PS: Did not work.

And so, he stayed that way. Maybe one day in the future he would find a girl or guy who he would love truly, but for now...

He was going to write his own story.

• Did Jungkook lie when he said that he lost feelings for Mira a few months before meeting Y/N?

Yeah lol. He totally did. He was still very much in love with her.

• So was Jungkook the person who spoke in the Prologue all along instead of Mira?

Yes. Yes he was.

• Did he lie when he kissed her and said he was trying to test the waters?

Well...kind of.

You know that feeling when you're trying to do a plank and you just want to collapse already?

Jungkook was feeling like he was doing a plank when he was hiding his feelings for Mira. His determination was strong, but he eventually broke when they both were alone at that time.

Looking at her as she 'helped him out' (he was secretly laughing inside as she got it all wrong about him liking Y/N more than he thought he would) he lost every little bit of determination.

And so, he leaned in and kissed her.

To him, it was something that he regretted yet he didn't. And if he had another chance to change anything, he just wouldn't. He would let it stay the same.

He did feel ashamed of himself for not being able to hold back and just kiss Mira that way since he made her uncomfortable, but eventually, that faded away as she assured him that mistakes happen.

The only thing he wished at that time was for it to not be labelled as a mistake.

• If he did not like Y/N, why did he walk away that day from the cafeteria when that random guy talked to her?

Simple, really. His role was to be the 'hot-headed, dumb fanboy' so he had to run as to give off an idea that he was 'jealous'.

• Why is Jungkook the book cover if Taehyung ended up with Mira?

Ah. That's because he was the second lead all along. The perfect one too.

If you realise, the book revolved around Mira and her love life, which made her the main lead in this story. Jungkook was the supposed first lead since she had a crush on him, but that soon changed to Taehyung...

...which made him the second lead.

Boom.

Also as you can see, the cover is of Jungkook holding a camera and taking a picture of something.

Or rather, some people.

Since he stood on the sidelines and watched Mira and Tae continue with their sweet love life, he had to hide his bitter feelings and be the good best friend.

He 'stood behind the camera' in a metaphorical way which meant keeping his feelings at bay and 'took their picture'- which meant watching it all and supporting them, but from the sidelines.

He was making a story that he couldn't be a part of due to him being the second lead.

• Was this how I planned the whole plot since the beginning?

No. It wasn't.

My previous plan included Mira being the true second lead.

In the last chapter aka the epilogue, she was supposed to attend Jungkook and Y/N's wedding.

She does love him but lets him go since he couldn't be happy with her. She wouldn't end up with Taehyung or anyone but be single for the entirety of the book because in my book you don't need a significant other to be happy or whole.

That was what I originally planned.

BUT I decided to change it since I can and I will and I like this ending better so screw you.

• Will Jungkook ever end up with someone in the future?

I have left it this way since I like this ending, irrespective of what others think. So the rest, you could imagine. Feel free to go crazy.

I want to be a psychologist but I'm not sure if it's entirely possible. I also wanted to be a writer, but it's hardto pursue as a career where I live. Itll probably be a hobby for me in the future. I'm completely uncertain at this point and I'm just trying to get through 10th grade😔

• When you started Second Lead did you just randomly think: I've been reading too many y/n stories why not make them a side character instead?

Because I've been thinking about this idea for some time now and I'm actually glad SOMEONE TOOK THE INITIATIVE TO WRITE A STORY LIKE THIS

Yes actually! I wanted a book about the second lead where Y/n was not the main character because I was tired of that shit ngl- but this book turned out much different than what I had originally planned.

I'm much more content with this plot and I'd like to think this was my best work so far too😌
