You lay awake in bed that night, buzzing. You had kissed Bucky. Bucky had kissed you. Several times! It took you an eternity to finally get to sleep, but when you did it was your worst nightmare yet.
"Y/N!" your mother called. "Come downstairs."
"Coming!" you yelled, flying down the banister. Then, the explosion, but it all changed from there.
Your parents emerged from the fire as a pair of horrifying skeletons with little bits of burnt flesh hanging off them, and you were seized my revulsion and terror.
"This is all your fault, Y/N," your father growled, stalking towards you.
"We would still be alive if it wasn't for you," your mother added viciously. They run towards you, claws extending from their hands.
"NO!" you screamed.
You woke up screaming too. You looked at the clock beside you.
2:36.
It's all your fault, your parents had said.
You put your head in your arms and began to cry, unable to remove those words from your mind. Then you tried to sleep, but you tossed and turned.
But, before you were seized by an utter hopelessness, you remembered what Bucky said to you last night when he dropped you off in your room.
I'm here for you, Y/N.
So you got out of bed and left the room, walking to Bucky's. You knocked tentatively at the door. It opened almost immediately.
"Y/N?" he said, confused. Then he saw your red eyes and shaking body. "Oh my God, are you okay?"
"N-no," you admitted. "I had a r-really bad n-nightmare about the day my p-parents died, except it was different, they emerged as sk-skeletons and they s-said it was a-all my f-fault."
You end up crying again towards the end, the last words morphing into a wail.
"Oh, Y/N," he breathed, pulling you into him and stroking your h/c hair. "It wasn't your fault. How could it be? You weren't even close to the stove."
You let him reassure you, silently clinging to his shirt.
"Come in."
"What?" you asked.
"Trust me," he says. "It's something I used to do with my sister when she had nightmares."
You looked at him ... and you trusted him. "Okay."
He pulled you inside and took you to his bed, gently placing you under the covers. Then, he sat on top of the blankets, leaning his head against the wall and placing your head in his lap. He stroked your hair gently with his good arm, and cleared his throat.
"Once, there was a beautiful garden. The Garden of Dreams. In this Garden, each person has a pond. Their dreams are reflected in the pond. They scare many people. However, once the person becomes strong with the help of others, they can beat the water, rippling the image and be free of the horrid dreams. I know you are strong enough to hit the water, Y/N."
He looked down and saw that with the soothing words and him stroking your hair, you had fallen asleep. Now that he knew you couldn't hear him, he started talking again.
"Shit, Y/N, what've you done to me? You're making my heart flutter, and you've made me feel happy for the first time in a long time when you laugh. I'm so in love with you, but I don't know if you're in love with me. And I want so badly to be with you, but I might hurt you. And besides, who could fall in love with someone who did such terrible things?"
He sighed, then slept until morning.

You groaned as you woke up. Not a morning person.
"Hey doll," you saw Bucky grinning down at you, leaning against the headboard of his bed.
"Hey Buck-" and then you saw you're not in your room, you were in Bucky's, and you couldn't remember last night. "Oh God. Oh God. Did I- did we-"
"No," Bucky cut you off. "You had a nightmare, and I helped you get to sleep.
"Oh." you sighed, relieved, the memories coming back steadily. "Well, thanks."
"It's nothing, doll."
"Hey, I got an idea," you said excitedly, seized by the moment. This time, it was you whispering in Bucky's ear, and he smiled widely.
