Night fell quickly as the van parked on the side of the road, Argyles snoring filling the van. No one was getting any sleep because of it. Locke held the sides of his head. "Holy shit."
"I can't take it anymore. I'd rather be devoured by the mosquitoes." Theo shook her head, opening up the van door.
"Theo, the government is gonna see you!" Locke tried to call, but she was already out and Mike was following. It left him and Will in the back. "Shockingly, we're usually on the same page."
"That's how Mike and I use to be." Will admitted honestly. "Not so much anymore."
"We are, she's just hiding something from me." Locke shook his head before realizing what he'd said, looking at Will. "I'm sorry you and your best friend aren't close anymore. I couldn't imagine that."
Will hesitated. "So, do you and Theo still hang out with those other kids from school?"
Locke felt embarrassed to admit it. "Yeah...we do."
Will scooted a little away from him. "Okay."
Locke sighed, looking out the window.
Outside, Theo had gotten on top of the van yet again as Mike followed. She huffed in annoyance. "You don't have to babysit me."
"Not babysitting, just making sure the government doesn't try to zap you up." he climbed up with her on the roof. "Not sure how this is better then Argyle snoring."
"This is shockingly better then a lot of places i've slept before." Theo exhaled loudly as she laid back, letting her back pop. "Holy shit."
"Holy shit." Mike agreed as he leaned back next to her, the pair looking up at the sky. "You like those stars?"
Theo gave a cringing look but had to smile. "Yeah, I like those stars."
"Yeah, me too. Mr.Clarke told me something really interesting about stars." Mike extended his hand to point upwards. "You see that one? It looks like a house?"
"With the huge ass roof?" she hummed.
"Yeah, it's called Cepheus. Which, is also a mythological character." he admitted with a minor shrug. "I think it's pretty cool."
"Yeah, it is cool." Theo reached for his hand and took it.
Mike looked over. "You miss Chad?"
"Yeah." she admitted, looking over as well. "You miss El?"
"Yeah." he hummed. "She doesn't have much interest for stars."
"I don't think Chad even knows what a star is." Theo admitted as Mike laughed, his hand tightening on hers. "We once got onto the subject of how hot stars are, because I thought it was so cool for some reason, and all he kept saying was "I bet those stars aren't as hot as you". And, yeah, I guess I liked that he said that, but after a while I just wanted to talk about my interest, you know? It always felt like it ropped back to looks for him."
"So, why do you like him so much?" Mike never did understand it, especially after all Theo had told him. "He's a complete mouthbreather."
"I wish I knew." Theo looked back up at the stars, the sinking and horrible feeling coming back into her heart and stomach at the thought of Chad. "I really wish I did."
"I can't feel my butt." Argyle complained. "Can you guys feel your butt?"
"I can feel my butt." Will confirmed as he stretched his back.
"I have no butt to feel, but no." Locke held onto Theos hand as they got out of the van. "Can I wear your flannel?"
"How come?" she pulled it off her waist.
"I feel very...feminine." he motioned to his preppy boy attire. "And if they're religious..."
"Ah shit, then we're both screwed." Theo looked down at her fishnets and shorts, not to mention her tank now that Locke had taken her flannel. "Help!"
"Maybe we can just-" Locke tried to pull her shorts down some but that seemed to make matters worse. "You know what...maybe they won't notice."
"They're gonna notice." Mike pointed out.
"Mike!" Theo scolded him.
"What? I'm just saying." he took off the blue jacket and handed it to her. "Do something with that."
"Oh, wait." Locke hurried to give Theo her flannel back before pulling the polo over his head.
"Woah! Can you not strip infront of the religious house?" Jonathan gapped, Will looked away.
"You wear the polo." Locke gave it to Theo as he put the flannel on. "Easy."
"Polos are my biggest fear." Theo stared at it. "What type of person would I be if I put this on?"
"One that isn't tossed off the roof?" he suggested. "Come on. If I can swoop so low to wear poor people clothes, you can wear a polo."
"Woah, tell me how you really feel." Theo gave him a eye roll before pulling the polo on over her tank, cringing as she stared forward. "Locke, I am deeply uncomfortable."
"You look great!" Locke spun her around the everyone else. "Doesn't she looks great?"
"Sure." Will nodded.
"I don't like it." Mike admitted.
"Exactly." Theo agreed, tying his jacket around her waist to at least cover the back. "The soldiers couldn't have given us two seconds to get our bags before trying to murder us?"
"So rude." Locke agreed as they headed up to the house. "Will, be honest, do you think i'm masculine looking enough?"
Will tried not to laugh. "Sure."
"Everyone needs to be on their best behavior, okay?" Jonathan warned the group, mainly looking to Argyle.
"Why are you looking at me when you say that?" he laughed.
"Woah, I didn't!" Jonathan defended himself.
"They're just really religious." Mike pointed out.
"I'm super spiritual, dude." Argyle nodded.
"I think they're spiritual too." Mike looked back. "Just in a different way."
Theo rose her fist and knocked on the door before hiding behind Mike as much as she could, trying to hide her legs. A small boy answered the door.
"Oh. Hey." Mike stared at the small one. "Is Suzie here?"
The boy screamed, letting the bow go as the fake arrow stuck to Mikes forever. Theo gave a loud snort as she slapped a hand over her mouth. "Holy shit, I love religious people."
"At least it wasn't a real one." Locke tried to point out the bright side.
"Away, you starveling!" one of the kids yelled at the other. "You elf-skin! You dried neat'd tongue!"
"This is my kind of party." Argyle looked around.
"Would you stop hovering?" Mike scolded Theo when she ran into him again. "I feel like i'm two people."
"My legs are gonna cause the father to have a heart attack." her hips ran into the back of him again as Mike gave her an annoyed look. "Don't pretend you don't like it."
"I've been bitten." a girl announced as she fell onto the carpet. "Help! Help!"
"Beautiful performance." a boy approached with a camera in hand.
"Excuse me." Jonathan cleared his throat. "Uh, hey, we're looking for Suzie."
"Jonathan." Locke scolded him. "You never interrupt a performance. It's the first thing they teach you in theater."
The boy snapped his fingers with a look of disbelief. "Can you not see that we are filming?"
They rounded the kitchen corner to come across two children cooking a large, very thought out dinner. Mike cleared his throat. "Hi, we're looking for Suzie."
"Don't know, don't care." the girl stated, yanking the spoon from her brother. "That's too much salt, Peter. Fathers kidneys! Fathers kidneys!"
"Fathers kidneys." Theo mocked with a snort from behind Mike.
"Behavior." Jonathan reminded her. "Is Argyle not the one I need to worry about?"
Theo sighed. "No, i'll be good."
"She absolutely will not." Locke confirmed as Will grinned from behind him.
The breaker suddenly shut off, the lights falling black. A older girls voice rung. "Cornelius! How many times do I have to tell you?"
She flipped the breaker back on. "That is not a toy. Come on."
She walked past them, looking at Argyle. He went into a mini trance at the sight of her. They followed her up the stairs as she gapped at the group of boys and girl. "Who the hell are you?"
"Argyle." the long haired boy grinned. "What's your name?"
"Eden." she looked over the group.
"Like the garden." Argyle gapped.
"I'm Suzies friend." Theo gave her a clear of her throat. "Is she here?"
Mike stumbled at how hard Theo was leaning against him to hide her legs.
"Third floor, second door on your left." Eden nodded her head. "If you see her, you make sure to give that selfish four-eyed shit a nice little shove for me."
"I will...I will shove her." Argyle promised.
"And I thought I had bad game." Locke shook his head.
"That's when you shut up and walk the other way, so they just look at your butt and are swooned." Theo shook her head confidently as they headed down the hallway. "Works every time."
Mike flashed her a look of disbelief over his shoulder.
Jonathan pushed the door open, looking around. "Well, great, she's not here."
"Holy shit, this is her entire room?" Theo gapped as she looked around. "I'm in love!"
"Give her a shove." Mike quoted Eden, sticking his head out the window to look up. "Suzie!"
"Yeah?" she looked back. "Who the heck are you?"
"Hey." Locke hurried to pull Theo away from laying on Suzies bed. "Talk to her."
"Suz!" Theo called as she hung out the window. "Hey, girl! We talked over the radio station! How's it hanging?"
"I was wondering when you'd show up." Suzie smiled at her. "Nice polo!"
"Told you." Locke whispered.
"Yeah, it's great ." Mike agreed. "We really need your help, though."
They all flashed winning smiled in her direction.
