Temples of Mahabharata Characters

Mahabharata, or previously known as Jaya, is one of the greatest epics our Bharat can ever have.

From surviving in forest, losing the family, plotting against own family, getting into trap of an crooked family member to losing the throne. From getting molested in a dice hall to getting justice in the Kurukshetra war. From sitting on the throne to submitting themselves in the feet of God. Every character from this epic teaches us something in our life.

Here are some temples dedicated to the people of that era :-

~ Dwarkadhish Temple

Amongst the innumerable temples of our beloved Madhav, this one, standing in his own nagri Dwarka city of Gujarat, India, which is one of the destinations of Char Dham.
It is believed that Lord Krishna arrived here from Braj in Uttar Pradesh to build the city. The temple was established by his grandson.
It is said that Dwarka was submerged under the sea six times and what we see now is its seventh avatar.

~ Pavithreswaram Malanada Shakuni Temple

Yes ! You read it right ! There is a temple dedicated to the crooked mamu Shakuni also. According to Sanatan Dharma there were some 'sattwik' (positive) elements in him too. So this temple in Kollam district worships Shakuni for his 'sattwik gunas'.
Although there are no usual puja or tantrik rituals at the temple but still people make offerings that include tender coconut, silk, toddy, etc.

~ Poruvazhy Peruviruthy Malanada Duryodhan Temple

Again ! You read it correct ! Just near to his mamashree though.
This temple of duryodhana is symbolic of the goodness of a negatively portrayed character.
The story goes that he was so enthralled by the beauty of the region, he appealed to the local deity to let him reign a part of the valley and take care of its people. It was thus that Duryodhana came to rule over this part of the country...
One temple is in UttarKashi too..

~ Karna Temple

Situated in the Karnaprayag city of Uttarakhand, Karna Temple is perched over a very huge boulder at the confluence of Alaknanda and Pindar River.
According to some popular beliefs, it is at this place Karna meditated to please the Sun God (father of Karna) and was granted the impregnable armour by the deity himself. Another legend saids that Karanprayag is the place where lord Krishna buried Karna after his death in Mahabharata.
