β€” IN 1864, Skyler Salvatore's life changed forever on the day she died alongside her brothers, however in the weeks after, she noticed an even bigger change than her new appetite; her twin brother had become a monster.

He was not simply a monster, he was a ripper but she didn't know that yet. All she knew was that he was changing. She didn't recognize him anymore and a part of her wondered if she would one day turn into a monster like him. And then, many years later, she became a Mikaelson...

Long before that, soon after the Salvatore siblings were turned, Skyler was chatting with her eldest brother, Damon, who hadn't changed nearly as much as her twin had. His hair was still the same shaggy curly mess it always was, his clothes stayed the same even β€” the only thing that had changed was the look in his eyes. There was something missing from them; life. Still, he kept his humanity.

"He's different, Damon." Skyler whispered as they walked through their childhood home which was now rumored to be haunted after the deaths of its residents. Nobody in the town knew it was haunted by true monsters, except a select few that were hunting them. "It scares me."

"I know." Damon responded quietly, glancing around. He said nothing more. They'd all been on edge since their deaths, Damon more so. He was the eldest, he was meant to protect them. But he didn't know how to protect them from themselves.

They walked into their living room to find Stefan had company in the way of several girls, no doubt compelled to be there. His face and shirt were covered in blood and when he looked over at them, he snarled.
Skyler screwed up her face in disgust, "What have you done now brother?" She questioned.

"I brought enough to share." Stefan told them carelessly. Skyler stared at her twin brother in utter shock and disbelief. It had only been a few weeks, and yet, already she didn't recognize him; he was but a fragment of the man he used to be β€” the brother she used to know and love.

She couldn't help but wonder if she would even be able to remember who he used to be in a few decades. "Are you mad bringing them here when the entire town is hunting us?" Damon questioned incredulously as Stefan pushed a girl into his arms.

"Oh Damon if you're worried about the founding families, please don't be." Stefan responded not an ounce of remorse in his voice, "They're all dead or about to be."

She went through a mixture of emotions from rage to relief. She thought of the founding families at that moment β€” She knew them, all of them, they all did, and he didn't even seem to care that he murdered them. And for a moment, she didn't fully care either. She thought they deserved it. They had murdered so many people for being monsters, their own father had killed them because of it.

Her eyes widened, coming to a startling realization as she thought of the founding families. She stared at her twin in shock, "What have you done?" She questioned in disbelief, "Oh god..." Her hand clamped over her mouth in a moment of sudden grief. Hadrian.

They had grown up with him, known him since diapers, just like the rest of the children of the founding families. But Hadrian... he and his family had always been closer to the Salvatores, so much so that their family had set up an arranged marriage between the youngest of the families. Skyler had never known a day without Hadrian. She had expected after she was turned that she would have to move on, but she never thought it would be because of his death. Tears filled her eyes as she stared at her twin, unable to recognize him. He had killed Hadrian, her fiancΓ©.

Stefan didn't seem to care even as his twin began to cry, he turned around. Going to one of the girls, he bit down on her neck without mercy or a moment of hesitance. Damon looked down, compelling the girl Stefan had pushed into his arms before, "Leave this place. Never think of it again. Same for you," he said as he dragged his brother off the girl, "Leave this place. Never think of it again."

Still grappling with the realization that her brother β€” her twin brother β€” had killed one of their best friends, Skyler stayed silent, unable to do anything but stare as the scene played out. "Damon, don't be like this. I'm just having some fun."

Skyler's lip wobbled as she stared at him, "You killed him." She whispered, their eyes falling on her, "You killed Hadrian and you don't even care!" She screamed, unbothered when Damon and Stefan both winced at her volume, "You don't even care!" She sobbed, falling to her knees. Both brothers, one with humanity and one without, stood there, speechless one without words and one without care. She couldn't help but sob harder when she looked at her twin, unrecognizable with blood on his shirt and darkness in his eyes, and wondered how long it would take until she didn't recognize herself in the mirror.

"Hadrian?" Elena asked Stefan curiously, looking up from his diary.

"He was Skyler's fiancΓ© before we were turned. It was an arranged marriage, set up by our father and his." He explained, "I don't think they ever really loved each other but..." Stefan sighed, running a hand through his hair, "He was family. We grew up together and they were to be wed in the winter after our birthday and I..." he shook his head, looking down shamefully. He didn't want Elena to know of this side of home, almost as much as he wished that side didn't exist today, still, he couldn't change what had happened and it was lying beneath the surface, waiting for him to snap.

"You killed him."

He nodded looking up at her with set eyes and a frown, "I crossed a line and they made sure I knew it."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

DAMON rushed to his sister's side, looking worriedly at her as his rage flared up, "We have to be more careful than this." He seethed, "More clever. Like Katherine was." He told Stefan sternly.

Stefan huffed, "Look what that got her."

Skyler shook her head as she fought to stand on wobbly legs. "You don't even care, do you?" She questioned once more, voice wavering with all the emotion she carried in it, "DO YOU?!" She screamed. She screamed for the founding families. For Hadrian. For the lives they lost when they were turned. For Stefan, who could've been so much more.

"They were hunting us!" Stefan protested, "I was protecting us."

"You killed my fiancΓ©!" She snapped enraged with her twin, she had never been angrier in her life, she realized later, "That is not protecting me! That isβ€” it's ruining me, Stefan! And you don't even care." She was aware by now that she had begun to repeat herself, she didn't care. She threw her hands up in exasperation, Damon wincing at the action, "God it's like you don't even have emotions anymore!"

She shook her head in defeat, looking away as she brushed a hand through her hair β€” usually kept and combed to perfection was now in a mess of natural waves β€” she took a few steps away from both brothers, taking a breath before she looked back at her twin with narrowed eyes, "I'm done with this town, with you, with all of it. I'm leaving."

"I'm leaving too." Damon said, following her out of the room. His shoulders rammed into Stefan's as he walked out, leaving his brother alone in the living room.

Before he could get far away, Stefan ran after his brother which caused Skyler to pause, staring at him in disbelief a few feet away, "You both hate me. I know. I know. An eternity of misery and on and on. I know, but you don't have to leave town." He begged, "Skyler," she looked away the second their eyes met, he looked to his big brother, "Damon," he called, "I'll do better. I promise."

"No," she disagreed as she took a step forward to stand beside Damon, "You will get us killed. Again. Or kill the whole town first." Without another word to be said to her twin, she walked away not bothering to wait for her eldest brother. If he decided to stay, that would be his choice and his alone.

With his eyes narrowed, Damon made it clear to his brother that he didn't disagree with their sister, in fact, quite the opposite. "She's right." He stated. Still, Stefan's eyes begged him to stay, he shook his head, "I'd rather leave you to do that to yourself."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"I wasn't myself then." Stefan told Elena regretfully, "I was full of guilt. What I did to my father. To my brother. To Skyler." He looked away, far too aware of how his voice cracked, "I had to turn it off. It was the only way I could survive."

"It sounds like you were Damon." Elena commented in surprise.

Stefan let out a huff, shaking his head, he looked away as he admitted, "I was worse."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"I can't stay here, Damon." Skyler whispered like a secret confession as he sat with her in her bedroom, "He killed him."

"I know. It's okay." Damon comforted her, his brother had crossed a line with their sister. That much was obvious. Damon only wished he had the courage to be the one to leave first, to show his sister instead of just saying it was okay.

"I don't want to leave him, he's my brother, my twin," Skyler cried, eyes filled with tears that she barely held back, "but..." she sniffled, looking away. But... she had to leave for her own good, and so did he. This, they both knew. What they were most unsure of was if they would ever return, and if they did... would it ever be the same as it was?

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"SKYLER," Damon called as his sister walked in to find him and Alaric having a chat in the living room, "You're just in time for dinner." He grinned devilishly.

Skyler blinked in thought, "I don't even wanna know." She told him after a moment of speculation.

"Ric," Damon's newest toy called as she came out, "Jenna needs help with the wine."

"Ooh, I'll help." Skyler offered with a grin, ready to get her hands on some good wine.

"Underage." He sang as she followed Alaric into the kitchen.

Skyler glared, calling over her shoulder, "Screw you, Damon!"

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"ELIJAH." Skyler called in surprise as she walked into the foyer upon hearing the man greeting Jenna, "Nobody told me you would be here."

"Yes, they were kind enough to invite me in." He grinned.

She hummed in response, eyeing him steadily, "Shame," she told him with a slight pause, "if I knew you would be here I wouldn't have come."

Elijah let out a laugh in an attempt to pass it off as a joke as she crossed her arms. "Ah, Jenna, you look incredible!" He called, changing the subject as fast as he could.

"Thank you." Jenna responded with a smile. Damon shut the door behind the original vampire.

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"I hate to break it to you two," Jenna began, looking at Skyler and Damon who sat beside each other, "but according to Elijah, your family is so not the founder of this town." She teased, pouring Damon a glass of wine. Skyler, barely listening to the words from the human's mouth, glared at the stream of wine instead.

"Hmm do tell." Damon responded looking to Elijah as he batted his sister's hand away without so much as a glance when she reached for his glass.

"Well as I mentioned to Jenna earlier, a faction of settlers migrated from Salem after the witch trials in the 1690s." Elijah explained, "Over the next hundred years they developed this community where they could feel safe from persecution."

"Hmm because they were witches." Jenna commented.

Skyler tilted her head, staring coldly at the man, "You seem to know a lot about this community, Elijah." She pointed out.

"I've done a lot of research over time." He responded kindly.

"Clearly." She agreed with an amused expression, "The way you speak of it, it's almost like you were there." Elijah smiled politely not knowing how to respond β€” Skyler was not making it easy to keep his cover, and he was certain she was doing this on purpose. (He was right, of course)

"But there's no tangible proof there were witches in Salem." Damon's meal told them. Skyler was going to have to figure out her name soon enough if Damon kept her around much longer.

"Addie's a journalist, big on facts." Damon told them conversationally. That's her name! She barely resisted the urge to snap her fingers in delight.

"Right, but there was also no tangible proof that there weren't witches in Salem." Skyler said notably, staring Addie down.

"Well, the lore says that there was this wave of anti-witch hysteria. It broke out in the neighboring settlement, so these witches were rounded up." Elijah continued, "They were tied to stakes in a field together and uh burned. Some say you could hear their screams for miles. They were consumed by the fire. Could you pass the..."

"I wouldn't repeat this to the historical society." Jenna joked Addie let out a nervous laugh.

"It's starting to sound a little like a ghost story to me." John Gilbert commented, making his presence known for the first time. Skyler tilted her head curiously, wondering when he got there.

"So why do you want to know the location of these alleged massacres?" Damon asked curiously.

Elijah's lips twinged up into a casual smile, "You know... a healthy historian's curiosity of course."

With a smirk, Skyler agreed, her eyes narrowed in on Elijah, "Of course."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"SO, let me guess," Damon spoke as he poured a glass for himself and Elijah in the library which doubled as a living room, "in addition to the moonstone, the doppelgΓ€nger, the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe, you need to find this witch burial ground."

"Because I feel as though we've grown so close, Damon, I'll tell you yes." Elijah said. Skyler made her way over to Damon, taking the bottle of alcohol from his hands and pouring herself a drink. Before he could protest, she settled him with a particularly nasty look, "Do you know where it is?"

"Maybe." He answered, handing Elijah the glass, "Tell me why it's so important."

"We're not that close." Elijah remarked, taking the glass before he moved back to the display, "This is quite a collection you have here. It's a funny thing about books," he mused. Unbothered by the way Skyler glared daggers into his head, picturing him six feet under, he continued, "Before they existed people actually had memories."

Suddenly, Alaric burst into the library, interrupting them. "Gentlemen, we forgot about dessert." He called as he walked in.

"Elijah."

"Miss Star." He greeted the woman, handing Damon his glass before he took her hand, spinning her around. He followed her out of the room.

Skyler sighed with a scowl on her face, looking down at her glass she commented, "I need something stronger."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

SKYLER sat at the table, tuning the whole conversation out as she stared at Elijah, glaring daggers into him when Addie came back to the table with a notebook, snapping Skyler out of it. She hadn't even noticed the woman leave, she noted curiously.

"Okay, my first question is when you got here to Mysticβ€”" The reporter was interrupted as Elijah gasped in pain, shouting out as he was stabbed in the back β€” literally. Both women gasped in surprise, jumping in their seats.

"What the hell?!" Skyler questioned standing up just as Alaric set the dagger onto the table.

He narrowed his eyes at her and Damon, "Get rid of him before Jenna comes back with dessert."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"THEY daggered him. They daggered Elijah." Skyler rushed the words from her lips, nearly stumbling over them. The Mikaelson family looked up in surprise, previously having a somewhat relaxing evening with a few drinks, "I didn't even know they'd found a dagger." She gasped out, going to Kol's chair.

"What?" Rebekah's eyes widened, her first day back in Mystic Falls and this happens.

"Who?!" Klaus growled.

"Alaric. But they didn't keep it in, he'll wake soon..." she found Kol's eyes fearfully as she spoke, "They still have the dagger."

He stood, striding over to his wife, he took her hand and met her gaze steadily. "We won't let them hurt any of us, darling. We'll be okay."

Behind them, their siblings were less calm as Rebekah snapped at Klaus, "See what you've done?!"

"What I've done?! Elijah's the one who ruined our plan!" He exclaimed, not hesitating to rise to the challenge of a fight with his sister.

"The plan you created! None of this would've happened if it weren't for you," she argued, "They're trying to kill Elijah!"

"Good." Klaus responded harshly, "He's suffering the consequences of his own actions then."

"What will happen when they try to find a way to kill all of us? Or you?" She questioned, "Will it matter then?"

He shook his head stubbornly and denied, "I will not let that happen."

"Oh right I forgot, you'll be the one killing us all." Rebekah snapped, "It's what you're good at after all."

In a second, Klaus had his sister up against the wall, a dagger he had hidden somewhere pointed at her chest. "Don't make me do it, Sister!" He growled in a scolding tone.

"Do it," Rebekah urged staring him down without fear, "You'll only be proving me right. You will be the death of us, Niβ€”" she gasped as the dagger was stabbed into her chest by an irritated Klaus, the blonde began to turn grey right in front of their eyes.

Klaus set her down on the couch gently, the only remorse he would show. Eyes still ablaze with anger, he turned back to find Kol holding Skyler close. "What?" He snapped, "Going to agree with her?"

"Iβ€”" Skyler stumbled to find what to say, he had daggered Rebekah and Elijah before since she had first met them but not right in front of her eyes, never right in front of her. "I have to go." She managed to get out before she ran out of the room too fast for either of them to stop her.

"Good job, brother." Kol told his elder brother, "You've scared off even your closest friend with your ways." Without another word, he ran out after her. Not even he was willing to get into an argument with an already annoyed Klaus.

"Fine!" He screamed to the empty room, "Leave! Everyone does."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"CAN someone please tell me what she's doing here?!" Skyler questioned, pointing at Katherine while simultaneously ignoring the woman.

"When we killed Elijah, it broke the compulsion and freed the bitch from the tomb." Damon explained, staring at Katherine in a mixture of disgust and anger.

"Oh well if it isn't the consequences of your own actions." She mused with a hum.

Stefan furrowed his brows, confused, "How's that possible?" He questioned.

"He's an original." Katherine chimed in, "They have all sorts of special skills."

"I don't want you here," Elena told her. Then, looking at the Salvatores, "Get her out of here."

"I don't think it'll be that easy," Skyler commented, studying Katherine cautiously as the vampire played with the dagger, "It never is with Katherine."

She seemed all too smug as she told her doppelgΓ€nger, "You need me, Elena." She set down the dagger and looked around at the rest of the Salvatores, "You all do."

Stefan scoffed, "Like hell." Skyler silently agreed, glaring at the woman in front of her as she stood beside her twin, her arms crossed.

"We all want the same thingβ€” Klaus dead." Skyler winced, yeah that wasn't exactly what she wanted. At least... not right now. It changed depending on her mood. Right now there was only the desire to maim him. "Yet here you all are, running around like chickens with their heads cut off."

"I don't need your help." Elena told her, shaking her head, "And I don't want it."

"And that's incredibly stupid of you. Do you know where Klaus is?" Katherine questioned. Yes, Skyler thought smugly, do you? She raised a brow at Katherine as if the woman suddenly had the ability to read minds and would answer. "When he's coming, what he looks like?"

"Do you?" Skyler questioned aloud now, her brow arched skeptically.

"If you know something, say it or get out." Damon told her sternly.

"Fine, then I'll just go to the Grill and have some lunch." Katherine responded. She looked at Elena, adding in a taunting tone, "Maybe Aunt Jenna's free for a bite."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"I'M beginning to think the bitch is immortal." Skyler mused around her glass of wine as she sat on top of Kol's lap.

"Wouldn't surprise me." He hummed, holding her close, "She can't seem to stay dead. Maybe we should test it."

She smiled wickedly, "I'd love to."

As if hearing their conversation β€” perhaps he had, he knew no bounds of privacy β€” Klaus walked in and asked, "Where are we with the plan? Not thinking about breaking it again, are we?"

Skyler scowled, "Hello to you too Klaus."

He winced at his preferred nickname. Usually, Skyler refused to use it... unless she was really pissed. He nodded curtly, not showing how it affected him. "Skyler." He greeted before continuing as he poured himself a glass, "So, the plan?"

She scoffed in response and stood up, drink in hand, "I'm leaving. Let me know when he's gone." She told her husband, walking away.

Kol glared at Klaus before running after her. Stopping her in the hallway, he took the glass from her and set it down on a nearby table before he leaned down, kissing her lips gently, "I love you, gem."

Skyler, despite her anger, couldn't help but smile as she leaned into her soulmate, "I love you too mon Γ’me." She mumbled when their lips left each other.

"Always." Kol whispered, their lips only inches away, her breath on his lips as she spoke, "Forever." He smiled, "Why don't you stay?" He let a little whining into his question, begging her with his eyes as he leaned his body into hers, "We can hole up in our room while your brother's at school. Find something more fun to do than fight with my brother."

She rolled her eyes despite the smile spreading across her face, she hummed, "Tempting."

"Only tempting?" He questioned teasingly, "Now that won't do." He pushed her against a wall, his body leaning heavily into hers, his hands holding her wrists above her. Holding her there, he leaned in to kiss her when suddenly his brother's voice called from the other room, "Get a room you two!"

"I'll kill him." Skyler scowled, her eyes focused on the door to the room Klaus was in.

"Don't." Kol urged, her eyes finding him again, "We have a room right upstairs." And with that, she let Kol lead her upstairs as she threw her head back and laughed.

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"FOR the last time, I'm here to help." Katherine told the Salvatore brothers adamantly.

Skyler closed the front door behind her, immediately regretting her decision to come home as she winced, turning around to face the vampire doppelgΓ€nger before she narrowed her eyes at Katherine, her arms crossed. "We've heard that one before." Katherine glanced at her briefly, her true focus never left her brothers though. Just like always, annoyed, Skyler pursed her lips, "Can we skip the secrets, hmm?"

"Elijah had no weapon to kill Klaus." Stefan admitted, "But he believed that if a witch could channel enough power... they wouldn't need one." The energy in the room shifted as Skyler stared at them in shock. She knew they wanted to stop Klaus of course but she never thought they had a way to, nonetheless one they got from Elijah.

"Like the power, you get from a spot marked with a hundred dead witches?" Damon questioned rhetorically.

Stefan hummed in acknowledgment, "We just need to find it."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

LATER on, Skyler sat on the couch with Damon, her legs in his lap while Katherine sat in a chair beside them, each of them with their own book. Damon looked away from his book to look back at Katherine who glanced over at him while Skyler kept her eyes on the book, only looking up when Damon looked away from Katherine, as if confirming with him.

Damon shook his head. Nothing. Good. That meant their plan would still be held back, but Skyler's plan...

Skyler's plan was moving far ahead of theirs.

Katherine stood up then, moving to the couch and leaning over the arm to read over Damon's shoulder. "Can I help you?" He questioned keeping his eyes on the book in his hands.

"I'm bored." Katherine told him with a pout to her lips. Damon sighed, ignoring her. She looked over his shoulder, ""Emily Bennet was taken by the council today. They kidnapped her from her home and took her to the same location her ancestors were burned a hundred years ago."" Katherine read from the book.

Skyler looked up from her book, eyes landing on the pair, "So she died at the site of the massacre too."

"Does it say where?" Katherine asked, reaching out for the book only for Damon to snap it closed away from her grip.

"Nope." He responded, "You know this whole friendly, cooperative thing?" He asked, Katherine humming, "I don't buy it."

"I have no reason to lie to you, Damon." She responded easily.

"Lie." Damon whispered.

"You always have a reason to lie," Skyler commented casually, flipping a page, "Yourself."

And on that note... "I'm hungry." Skyler rolled her eyes, predictable as always.

Without looking up from his book, he responded, "You're the unwanted houseguest. Go feed yourself."

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"WHAT happened?" Skyler questioned in confusion when she and Damon found Katherine stabbed in the stomach in an empty room where the only other being was Elijah's corpse.

"Damon..." Katherine called, looking over at Elijah. Skyler's eyes followed hers to see the dagger moving slowly out of his chest. Her eyes widened almost theatrically, she looked over at Damon who glanced around the body before moving to leave the room.

"Move." He told Skyler who stood in the doorway. She quickly moved out of the way, shocked when her older brother came back with a blowtorch pointed above Elijah's body.

"What are you doing?!" Stefan exclaimed coming up behind Damon.

Without a glance back, he responded, "Shutting down a crazy-ass psychic witch attack!"

"You know the usual!" Skyler called over the flames, standing reluctantly by Katherine to get away from the heat of the fire.

"Get over there and do something about it." Damon told his brother who glanced over at the girls, "Go!" Skyler nodded to Stefan telling him she was okay and finally, he left, following Damon's demands. Skyler watched the flames with a steady gaze, all too aware of how close Katherine was to her.

ΰ³ƒβ€βž·

"WHAT do you want?" Skyler questioned still on edge from the psychic witch attack. She stood outside a good distance away from her house, her phone pressed to her ear.

"We need to talk." Klaus told her sternly.

"Yeah, who says?" She responded petulantly before she promptly hung up.

Suddenly, there was a breeze of air behind her and Klaus appeared behind her, whispering in her ear, "I do."

Skyler jumped. Spinning around, she glared at him coldly. "What do you want?" She questioned through gritted teeth.

"Hear me out," he pleaded uncharacteristically, "You're my closest friend, Skyler, my only friend. I can't lose you over this."

"You killed Rebekah."

"I daggered her." He corrected with narrowed eyes, "And I've done it before. She's used to it, she expected it even. So why are you so bloody upset over it?" Now he seemed frustrated, she scoffed.

"I'm so bloody upset," she mocked, "because you aren't. You daggered your sister without a second of hesitation, without a touch of mercy. How much longer before you get that angry with Kol and kill me too? How much longer before you find a way to put them to sleep for good?" She questioned, her eyes narrowed, "Would you even care? Would you hesitate?"

"God, don't you see it? You scream that they hate you, that they'll never forgive you, and you never understand why," she told him, "You put them in boxes, literally stabbing them in the back, you push them out of your life and stop them from living their own. They're not going to forgive you until you prove to them they can."

"I'm protecting them. I don't need their forgiveness." Klaus sneered.

Skyler shook her head in disagreement, "No, Nik. The only one you're protecting here is yourself." Before Klaus could interrupt or scream, she continued β€” she was on a roll and she was not done yet. She narrowed her eyes. "And you know what? I'm not even upset with you. I'm upset with them, for never seeing it, for always forgiving you. Even Rebekah, for all she screams that she hates you, she always forgives you."

"We're family." He told her sternly, a reminder to her and himself.

Skyler nodded in agreement, "Yes, we are. So start acting like it." She stepped forward, "I am your family, Niklaus. I will never leave you, I will always love you and so will they but that does not mean I will always forgive you." She snapped, her voice stern and unwavering despite the waves of rage within it. She fumed as she continued, "It does mean that I will kick your ass into shape for doing shit like this." Her words were harsh however she could see it on his face that she was getting through to him. He wouldn't change of course, not right away anyway. Skyler doubted even one of her best speeches could make the man change but maybe, just maybe, she could help him learn.

"Stop pushing them away. Or one day, they won't just stop forgiving you, they'll start truly hating you. They'll leave you, for good." She told him sternly, leaving no room for argument, "I don't want to see that day. Do you?"

"I-" Klaus stuttered. For the first time in a thousand years, he stuttered and stared at her in disbelief as the words came out choked and quiet, "I'm sorry." For the untrained ear, these words would sound forced and angry. To her, it sounded like hope.

Not yet, but maybe someday, Klaus would learn the true meaning of family β€” not the one his parents taught him.

Skyler softened, giving a solemn nod, she said only two simple words however they meant so much more, "I know."
