Epilogue | The Next Journey
Sitting on a bar stool in a pub was a familiar black-haired man, his icy blue eyes cast down on the black marks on his arm. How long has it been since the final battle?
These marks of his were a reminder of his use of Harvester. A reminder of his sins... Even if he did obtain retribution for his actions in the past. The marks that remained on his skin are a constant reminder of what he's done. A glass of liquor was soon passed over to him, Akira grabbing it without any sort of hesitation as he drank it all in one go. However, in the corner of his eye, he spotted a familiar person, that person carrying something in his arms.
Lubbock: "Never thought I'd find you here. Well, it's even more strange that you called me out here."
Akira: "...Do you have it?"
Lubbock: "What, not even a single 'hello'?"
Letting out a small click with his tongue, Akira got up and lunged forward. Grabbing Lubbock by his neck, the green-haired man making no reaction to it whatsoever, Akira gave the green-haired man a glare, seething with anger. But that anger wasn't directed towards him.
Akira: "I don't have time to play games, Lub. I'll ask you again. Do. You. Have. It."
Lubbock: (sigh) "Would you settle down? At least try not to kill me."
Scoffing, Akira let Lubbock go. The green-haired man dusted himself off as the two sat down on the bar stools. Lubbock then took whatever he was holding and put it on the table, the item revealing to be a book. It was Saikyuu's Teigu, Rongo Rongo.
Lubbock: "As promised, here it is. You know, it took a bit of negotiation from Najenda and the other leaders to even remotely sse it. Besides, what did you need it for?"
Akira: "Information."
Lubbock: "Blunt with your answers as ever, I see. What kind of information?"
The blue-eyed man said nothing. Taking the book and setting it in front of him, Akira opened it up and scrolled through the book until he landed on a particular name of an island country. His eyes were deadset on them.
---
Akira: "Well... Can't say that this reunion has been lovely, Lubbo."
Lubbock: (deadpan) "Uh-huh. Sure was lovely. Especially when you tried to strangle my neck."
Akira: "...You know. She was really happy when she told me... Especially about the fact that our family was about to grow bigger. Hell, Air was happy that she was about to be an older sister. She... They were really looking forward to it."
Lubbock: "Yeah. I can only imagine... You sure you want to do this? Even if you have to leave them behind?"
Akira: "I have to. Akame blames herself for this, but it wasn't her fault. If anything, it's mine. I should've been stronger so I could've prevented what happened then. I should've been there."
Lubbock: "Well, what's done is done. You can't change whatever happened in the past, Akira."
Akira: "Yeah, I know, Lubbo. ...This'll be the last time we see each other until I return, you know that... Right?"
Lubbock: "I know. Just... Come back in one piece. Okay? If you don't come at our gatherings every year, everyone will be missing the resident cook."
Akira: "Tsk. Piss off. ...But seriously, Lub. Thank you."
Lubbock: "...Just come back in one piece."
Nodding his head, Akira departed for his home. After the war, Najenda had gave Akira, Akame, and Air a temporary home in the Capital, the three of them still deciding of where they wanted to live.
Arriving at his home, Akira opened the door and went to check every room of the house for anyone.
No one was home.
Akira found it a bit suspicious, but shrugged his shoulders and went to the bedroom of his and Akame's. He didn't grab much, just a small bag with a few essentials and his blade, putting on the accessories of his deceased friend, Cornelia, Akira would exit the house and make his way out of the Capital.
Walking along the path, he pulled out Rongo Rongo one last time. His eyes once again hovered over the country he was looking at previously.
Akira: "The island nation of Jinwa... Murasame's origins. So that's my next destination."
Akame: "You mean 'our' destination?"
In surprise, Akira turned around. Standing there with disapproval, her katana clipped to her side, the distinct red markings of Murasame all over her skin, was his love and his wife, Akame.
Akira: (long sigh) "Look, I--"
Akame: "Save it. What happened to doing things together? I thought we made it clear to each other back then that we'd face everything. And we promised to never be apart."
Akira: "I do remember promising them, but... I can't help but feel--"
Akame: "Stop. Don't say it was your fault. Whether we like it or not, Akira, we have to move forward and continue on. Even..." (shaky, deep breath) "Even if I must accept the death of our child."
Akira: "Akame..."
Akame: "caresses Akira's face) "I know how much you've beaten yourself over it. I was happy, Air was happy, we were all ready for it. It was exciting... But we have to move forward and accept it, and overcome it together. You don't have keep on doing it alone, Akira. I've always been here to share the burden with you. So, please... Let me."
Akira: (sigh) "...I love you way too much to be mad at you."
Akame: "I know."
The ravenette gives her love a playful smirk, Akira soon chuckling as he mirror that sort of expression. She then grabs his hands, squeezing them tightly, Akira doing the same thing. Just as they were about to lean in for a kiss, they stopped upon hearing hurried footsteps coming their way. In the distance, a young girl with pink hair could be seen running up to them at the highest speed her legs could take her, the girl having a bag slung over her shoulder.
Air: "W-Wait up! I want to come too!"
Akira: (sternly) "Air, you can't."
Air: "Why can't I!? I want to be with you, Father, Mother!"
Akame: "It's not that simple, Air. The task we're about to do is going to be dangerous."
Air: "But I want to come! I want to stay with you! ...I don't want to be alone again."
Akira: "Sweetie... Come here."
The black-haired man brought in his daughter in a tight, comforting hug. Akame joined in on it as well, wrapping her arms around the two.
Akira: "You were never one, honey. What we want is for you to be safe, that's why we want you to stay here."
Akame: "Your safety has always been our top priority. Above everything else. We don't want to lose you too."
Air: "B-But, what if you guys don't come back? I want to stay with you forever."
She gave the two her pleading eyes. They couldn't exactly say no. However, a new voice spoke up.
Chelsea: "Well then, I might as well tag along, huh? Someone has to keep her out of trouble."
Air: "Aunt Chelsea!"
Akira: "Are you sure?"
Akame: "Yes. We don't want to take away the things you've already worked so hard for. Especially since you've still been healing."
Chelsea: "It'll be fine. Besides, I've been missing it, to go out back in the field again. And as much as I love my job, I'd rather not sit in a desk for my whole entire life."
Akira: "...So we're really doing this. Once we set forth, we can't turn back. Not until we've gotten what we've needed."
Akame: "We started our journey in our house in Rousei Village. It's only right that I see the end of it with you... Together."
Chelsea: "Why not? Better than sitting around all day doing paperwork and stuff like that. ...Though, it'd be nice to go on another adventure. I just wish it was with everyone else, too."
Akira: "Yeah... Well, let's go then."
The four then began to travel down the path.
Chelsea: "...Hey, where are we going anyway?"
Akira: "The island nation of Jinwa."
Chelsea: "'Jinwa'? What the hell kind of name is that?"
Akira: "Hey, language."
Chelsea: (deadpan) "Well, you've turned into a big old softy, haven't you?"
Akira: "Because there's a child here."
Air: "Hey, I'm not a child! I can make my own decisions, right, Mother?"
Akira: "Don't bring your Mother into this."
Akame: "And what's that supposed to mean, huh, love?~"
Akira: "Uh..."
Chelsea: (snickers) "Out of the fire and into the frying pan."
Air began to giggle. Akira then looked at Chelsea, clearly annoyed.
Akira: "Hey, watch it."
Chelsea: "Oooo. So scary. What are you going to do, Mr. 'Ice Cold Reaper'?~"
Akira: "That's it! Get over here, you damn Oarburgh!"
The auburn-haired girl laughed with glee as the icy blue-eyed teen chased after her. Air laughed at the scene while Akame simply smiled.
It was moments like these that make her happy. Especially her tike during Night Raid.
But that journey had come to a close, and a new one opened up. What awaited them?
---
Elsewhere, a woman in a small dilapidated house could be seen kneeling on both knees. She was posted in front of shrine with a picture on it, the young woman having bowed her head.
The features of the young woman was that she had long dark hair and tanned skin. When she opened her eyes, it revealed to be yellow. Standing up, she then wrapped something around her neck.
A raven skull necklace.
???: "I'm heading off now, Mother. Watch over me... Always." (thoughts) '...I feel... A storm coming... Could it be...?'
---
The story continues in the next book, basing off the sequel manga, "Hinowa ga Yuku," which is also of the same creator. Akame's and Akira's journey is far from over.
What else awaits them?
