18| A New Breath of Air
Took some inspiration from some AGK fanfics out there. Honestly, she didn't deserve this, so I thought, "Why not give her a better fate?"
Hope you guys enjoy this.

After meeting with their client, both Akira and Leone went to the place Air had told them about to confirm whether her story was true or not.
Unfortunately, it was. Fal did indeed have no teeth and fingers, even her eyes had been poked out by a needle. There were remnants of blood stains as to where they said Luna had jumped off from. Not only that, when they checked out who their master was, it was quite a young man.
But he made his money by selling off young girls from the countryside to men of the Empire, most of them being quite perverted. It was sickening, disgusting. Akira could come up with millions of words to come up with to describe the situation the girls had went through, but even then, it was still sickening. They didn't deserve such a fate. Judging from how the three girls looked, they were young girls. Perhaps around the age 13 to 15. Nearly around Kurome's age.
Akira couldn't help but wonder if Kurome was in this situation. Just thinking about it made his stomach turn, including as to how Akame would feel. She would practically tear her hair off and would stop at nothing to kill the people behind this operation.
Once confirming, the two set off for their hideout, of which they gathered Akame, Tatsumi, Lubbock, and Mine to assist them in taking down everything. Meanwhile, in the facility, Bach, the man behind it, was meeting with his business associates, which they all sat in various tables.
Bach: "Now, everyone. The date for next quarter's special menu has been decided. I'll be bringing another batch of live ones, so look forward to it!"
All the rich men there sipped their wine with disgusting grins, some of them even licking their lips as they began to cackle. Outside, some of the guards were on duty.
Naturally, they were on alert, but not well enough as some were goofing off. One of them was smoking a cigarette, patiently waiting for the night to end. He then heard something behind him.
Guard: "Who the hall are--"
His words were cut short when his neck was snapped, a yellow blur having twisted his neck. The yellow blur revealed to be Leone in her Teigu form, having twisted the guard's neck, his body dropping to the floor.
Leone: "What pathetic last words."
The men inside were enjoying themselves as they continued to indulge themselves in their drinks. The paper walls to the side soon opened, Mine coming in with Pumpkin as she scanned the room.
Mine: "Everyone is a target. Confirmation complete." (grin) "Now die."
Very quickly, she pulled the trigger of Pumpkin, dozens and upon dozens of rich men were shot down, clean shots to the head. The security of the building quickly flooded in and began to surround the pink-haired assassin, but stopped when she saw her grin. Crashing through the wall as well was Tatsumi, clad in Incursio as he had Incursio's spear out.
Like they did with Mine, they tried to surround him and attempt to apprehend him. But it was all futile, Tatsumi being much stronger than them as he cut them down with one swing of his weapon, all of them dropping like flies. Bach and two of his henchmen escaped through a trap door in the floor, seemingly having escaped the assassins. One of them remained on the floor, unsure what was going on as he had dodged Mine's shots. He attempted to play dead, but a certain green-haired assassin noticed him.
Lubbock: "Ah. This one's still breathing. Not one of you is getting out of here alive."
He then began to wrap Crosstail's wires around his neck, making the man choke as Lubbock pulled on them. Seconds later, the man's body went limp.

Running through a secret hallway below the meeting area they were previously in, Bach grinned.
Bach: "Hmph! I thought this might happen. My escape route worked perfectly..."
The three of them soon stopped short, Bach letting out out a gasp. Walking in front of them, cracked ice being heard was Akame and Akira, the two staring menacingly at the three. Both of their Teigus were out, Bach recognizing them. His bodyguards soon take out knives and began running at them, but the two simply kept walking.
Effortlessly, Akira swung Harvester with Akame doing the same with Murasame, the bodies of the two dropping to the ground as they both flicked the blood off their weapons.
Akame: "Rest in pieces."
Bach: (panicking) "H-Hear me out! There is a reason I'm this way."
Thinking he had some leverage to get him out of this situation, Back clawed at his shirt before he ripped the front area open. On his chest was a tattoo of sorts, but Akira and Akame kept their dull and emotionless looks.
Bach: "Look! This is a mark of a slave! My mother sold me..."
Akira: "I don't give a fuck if your own mother sold you. What you did was unforgivable."
Instead of granting Bach a quick and painless death, Akira wanted him to suffer. He grabbed Back's left arm and froze it entirely, bringing his arm up and chopping down on it. The ice arm then shattered, blood spurting out of Bach's injured side as he began to scream in pain and curling up into a ball, his other arm holding the once left arm, attempting to stop the bleeding.
Akira spared no glance towards Akame, remaining his ice, hardened gaze on Back.
Akira: "Akame... I suggest you leave. This could get...a little bloody."
But she remained still. Not because she wanted to see the man get beaten to a pulp and tortured to death, but because she was worried. Akira continued to walk towards Bach, who kept trying to crawl away. The black-haired teen lifted him up by his neck and slammed him against the wall, Akira beginning to repeatedly punch his face in. A tooth left Back's mouth as blood began to splatter onto the wall, floor, and fist of Akira's hand.
Akira: "You son of a bitch, you have any idea of what they felt!? They had family! They had a whole goddamn village to return to! You drove two of them to their deaths, all for the sake of money!? You goddamn bastard!"
He then grabbed him once more, slamming Bach to the ground and freezing his right leg completely. Once that was down, Akira brought his foot up and slammed it down, shattered the ice leg and Bach screaming in immense pain, Akira resuming his beat down as he had Bach face upwards, the icy blue-eyed teen repeatedly kicking his body around.
Akira: "They had so much they were looking forward to... They were just trying to live a good life and support their families! But you took it all away from them!"
All while he kept doing this, Bach kept muttering for mercy. He wanted to do anything to live. The last trump card in trying to get away in revealing he was a slave wasn't even working. As Akira continued to beat the slave trader to near death, beating him to a pulp, but not enough to actually kill him, he was stopped. Akame grabbed his arm, making him look at her.
He could see her pleading eyes, to just end the scum. Even if he was responsible for such a thing, the least she wanted to do was to give him a quick and painless death. He sighed and nodded, turning his gaze down to Bach. In Bach's eyes, then began to look hopeful, but the hopeful look disappeared when he saw the look in the two assassins eyes.
Akira: "...Your soul isn't even worth devouring. Death will not judge you, for you belong in Hell."
The icy blue-eyed teen let Harvester transform back into it's key form, hooking it back onto his belt. Drawing Gin's sword off his back, he swiftly stabs it into his chest, piercing his heart. Bach's last gaze were the two assassins' stare at him. Although it was emotionless and dull, he could see what it meant.
Akira and Akame were looking at him like he was just some garbage to toss out. Bach's last encounter would be with the two worst assassins in the Capital.
Once the job had been finished, Akira began to head elsewhere. The other members of Night Raid couldn't stop him, so they let him do as he please. But, they had a feeling as to where he was going to go.
---
A few hours later, the news of the murders had reached the Jaegers, Esdeath having them completely mobilized to check out the scene of the crime.
Once they arrived, they noticed all the bodies laying out front and inside the building. Some of the walls were destroyed, splatters of blood lying everywhere. Run gazed inside, a look of disgust on his face as he sees the sheer brutality of all the murdered men.
Run: "This method... No mistaking, this is the work of Night Raid and their Teigu."
Esdeath: "Ah, yes. So it's the assassin group Night Raid. Just as with other outlaws, our Jaegers unit will hunt them down."
In another area, just a few blocks away, Air was sitting up against a column in a fairly densely populated area. Her eyes were still dull, but a small smile graced her face as she looked down at her hand. She was holding a bottle of sorts.
Air: "You've been avenged... My friends. And I'll be joining you soon." (thoughts) 'If I'm ever reborn... I hope it's to...a kinder world...'
The young girl unscrewed the cap off and lifted the bottle up to her mouth, ready to take all of it's contents. Just as she was about to put everything into her mouth, a hooded figure loomed over her and grabbed the vial from her and tossed it away. Air looked up to see it was Akira, who kept his usual straight face.
A look of anger then plagued her face as she stood up and weakly punched him in the stomach.
Air: "What did you do!?"
Akira: "Stopping you from killing yourself. Is that so wrong?"
Air: "It was wrong! ...I have nothing left... My friends are gone...my family's gone... Now it's just me..."
The girl began to sob as she fell onto her knees. Akira simply sighed as he knelt down as well, putting a hand on her shoulder. This caused her to look up.
Akira: "Killing yourself here... It won't do anything for you. There is no guarantee if there is an afterlife for you and your friends, or if there even is a way of reincarnation. In this world, you only get one life. If you feel that you don't have the will to live, then live for yourself, and for the sake of your friends. It's what they would've wanted."
Air: "Then... What am I going to do? What do I do, then?"
She kept her gaze cast down to the stone road, seeing Akira's boots walking towards her. She then felt herself being picked up, Akira having her hitched onto his back. Air found her arms wrapped around his neck, piggyback onto him.
Akira: "You wish to help out somehow, right? Killing the rotten isn't the only way to help this world."
Air: "Thank you..."
---
By the time Akira returned with Air, it was already morning time. He stood in front of Najenda, who had her arms crossed and stared him down. Air was currently hiding behind him. She walked closer to him and rose an eyebrow.
Najenda: "May I ask who the person behind you is, Akira?"
Akira: "The client Leone and I had met up with. She planned on killing herself after the mission was over, but I stopped her from doing so."
Najenda: "I'm assuming she wants to help somehow, considering you saved her and wants to repay you. Or rather, all of us. Does that sound right?"
Air shyly nodded, keeping her eyes to the floor. Najenda sighed and walked up to the young girl and bent down to her level.
Najenda: "Unfortunately, there isn't a place for us to have her here."
Akira: "Then I'll take care of her. I'll train her myself."
Najenda: "I know you mean well, but even then, having someone to little or no combat experience will just hold us back. And, we need you at your full fighting form when missions come up. I'm afraid to say, she won't be able to stay with us."
Akira let out an audible click of annoyance, Air's hair covering her eyes. But Najenda simply grinned.
Najenda: "But, I do suppose that I can take her to the Revolutionary Army's HQ, once I have a chance in doing so. She can get better at developing her abilities, while also being safe. And if she can't do that, she can take up the supportive role as a nurse. For the time being, she can stay."
Upon hearing this answer, Air instantly lit up. She was about to say her thanks when Najenda held up her arm, gaining a smile herself.
Najenda: "Don't thank us yet. You can thank us by surviving this war and help usher in the new nation."
The young girl began to shed tears of joy, soon turning to her side and wrapping her arms around Akira's waist. The sudden action caught him off guard, but he gained a small, but unnoticeable smile. He gently pat her head, Air burying her face into his leg.
From the nearby hallway, just standing a bit away was Akame. She had watched the interaction herself, and it couldn't help but bring a smile to her own face.
And so, for the next few days, Air had stayed with them. She would mostly spend her time around Akira, who would often be found in his and Akame's room or in the kitchen, always trying to prep something before Susanoo. The young girl would often ask him what she could do to help, Akira letting her do small things, cutting up vegetables and other things here and there, but that was pretty much it.
She never really spent time with the other Night Raid members as she was always nervous around them. But, she soon found herself warming up to Akame, the red-eyed girl seemingly having been giving her some sort of motherly affection. The others had noticed this and Air had begun to also follow her around as well, when Air couldn't find Akira at all, or if he was out on a mission or hunting.
But those days of peacefulness would soon come to an end. Standing out at the edge of the Marg Highlands was the Air Manta, the transport ready to take her away to the Revolutionary Army's HQ. Air stood in front of both Akira and Akame, a bag in hand.
Air: "Th-This is goodbye... Right?"
Akira: "Yeah..."
Air: "Th-Thank you for taking care of me so far... I-I'll get stronger...if not, then I'll be the best medic out there... You won't regret it!"
Akira: "Yeah... Take care of yourself out there, kid."
The icy blue-eyed teen had ruffled Air's hair, causing it to be messed up a bit. The young pink-haired girl did her best to keep her emotions in, but she ran towards the two and hugged them.
Air: "Thanks for everything... Mama... Papa..."
Her response caught them off guard, but they simply smiled and hugged her back. The Air Manta would then leave as Air had gotten on, the Danger Beast taking her away to it's destination. Akira looked on with a smile, but he soon felt something resting on his shoulder. Akame had laid her head there as the two stood there, hands intertwined.
Akame: "Who knew you were such a big softie for her, huh?"
Akira: "...The same can be said for you."
Akame: "But you know why, right?"
Akira: "Mm-hm. A girl like her doesn't deserve. To live like that, to see her friends dying around her. She shouldn't live through the things we went through. Well, similar ones, at least."
Akame: "But are you okay with her calling you that?"
Akira: "...Not at all. It's just that...I wish she didn't have to be raised by a monster, such as me."
He felt his hand being released from hers, his face being grabbed by both her hands. Akame gave Akira a warm smile as she brought him and herself close to each other, leaning their foreheads against one another.
Akame: "It doesn't matter what people call you. What matters is, we'll get through them together."
Akira: "...I really don't do deserve you. I really don't."
Akame: (giggles) "Idiot."
She pecked his lips before she began to tug his arm back towards the house. Akira thought back to what Akame had said that night.
He could only hope that dream will be able to happen. So he could see the end of the war to fulfill it.
