ㅤ𝐁𝐔𝐂𝐊𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐕𝐄 interacted with the people who's going to fight for their team. He wasn't sure how the so-called 'Avengers' just turned on each other so easily. He can understand Steve's inclination towards him, but the others involved? He wasn't sure why they were even doing this.
After escaping and proving that he'd turned back to himself earlier after the Winter Soldier was forcibly let out by that man, he started to wonder where Phobos was. The god nonchalantly announced his feelings for him. It was then he realized he reciprocated those feelings, as the god was the only person who stood by his side, even when he wasn't himself.
He turned away as he tried not to laugh when one of their 'teammates' stuttered over Steve.
"Cap-Captain America," Scott breathlessly spoke as he shook the man's hand.
"Mr. Lang," Steve formally greeted.
"It's an honor," Scott continued to shake Steve's hand. "I'm shaking your hand too long." He let go of the Captain's hand in realization. He looked around before continuing. "Wow, this is awesome. Captain America." He turned back towards the teenager behind him, gesturing to the blond man. "I know you too, you're great." He let his eyes look over Steve's body, grabbing onto his shoulders for a quick second. "Geez."
The moment was broken when the sounds of footsteps were heard. And walking towards them was a stranger Steve recognized. He was still wearing a suit, along with leather shoes. Steve was about to speak up when the stranger walked past him and straight in front of Bucky.
Bucky couldn't help himself and took Phobos in his arms and let their lips crash against each other. He smirked against the god's lips when he heard Sam let out a 'woah.'
Phobos reluctantly broke the kiss. "When you said you were going to escape, I didn't expect you turning full Winter Soldier."
Bucky sighed. "It was that doctor; he knew my trigger words."
"How'd he even get them?"
"I don't know."
"Would one of you explain what's going on?" Steve spoke up, his eyes taking note of Bucky's relaxed stance as he held on to this beautiful stranger. "Who are you?"
Phobos smirked, turning towards him. "You wouldn't believe me."
"Try me."
"My name's Phobos, son of Aphrodite and Ares, God of Fear," his eyes flickered black for moment before turning to Wanda, feeling her trying to enter his mind. "You won't be able to, child."
"I did it to Thor, I can do it to you," the accented voice of the teenager retorted.
Phobos scoffed, ignoring Bucky's protests. "Go ahead, then."
The others–apart from Bucky and the clueless Scott–decided that maybe Wanda entering the mind of a man claiming to be a god would be a good way to decide whether or not he's on their side.
As Wanda's eyes turned red at the use of her powers, she pushed past the strong barrier this man had, noting how stronger it was to Thor. Looking at the man's smirk, she knew that he shed his shield and let her in. This action caused her to frown before pushing deeper. And when she did, she started gasping for breath and screaming. She quickly let go of her hold on the man's mind.
"Wanda!" Clint shouted in alarm, catching the teenager as she fell backwards breathless. Clint looked towards Phobos. "What the hell did you do?"
"I didn't do anything, archer," Phobos shrugged, removing his arms from Bucky's form and placing it into his pockets.
"He's right, it was my fault," Wanda spoke, the images she saw still flashing in her mind. "I shouldn't have entered his mind, he warned me."
"What did you see?" Steve inquired, sighing as Wanda shook her head reluctantly in response. "Can I at least know if we can trust him?"
Wanda met Phobos' dark eyes, nodding. "He's a good man."
Scott took a deep breath before speaking up again, taking everyone's attention back to himself as he thanked Captain America. "Look, I wanna say, I know you know a lot of super people so, thanks for thinking of me." He turned towards Sam. "Hey, man."
"What's up, tic-tac?" Sam greeted.
"Uh, good to see you. Look what happened last time--"
"It was a great audition, but it'll never happen again," he chuckled.
"Did he tell you what we're up against?" Steve interjected.
Scott turned to look at the Captain. "Something about some...psycho assassins?"
Steve nodded. "We're outside the law on this one. So, if you come with us, you're a wanted man."
"Yeah, well, what else is new?"
"We should get moving," Bucky spoke up, leaning against the car. He turned to look at Phobos and the two seemed to have a silent conversation.
"I got a chopper lined up," Clint said, before they all looked up at the sound of the intercom.
"They're evacuating the airport," Bucky translated, his eyes never leaving Phobos'. The god held tightly onto Bucky's metal hand before the two looked up at the others in unison.
"Stark," Sam simply said.
"Stark?" Scott's inquiry was never answered as Steve spoke with authority.
"Suit up."
Phobos turned to Bucky to peck him on the lips one last time before disappearing, leaving Bucky with a lovesick grin on his face.
"Never thought I'd see you smile like that, man," Sam smirked, earning himself a glare.
As the team separated, Phobos thought for a moment. He knew he had to help but when? He shook his head, reappearing on top of one of the terminals, wearing his battle armor. It's been a while since he'd worn this, and it felt good, the weight of his spear familiar. He watched as the two sides collided, their fear calling out to him. He knew that with his abilities, his side will win.
He watched as Scott grew in size and smirked, it was time. He took a moment to glance at Steve and Bucky running away to the jet before jumping from where he was.
"Now who's this guy?" He heard Iron Man ask. He ignored him as he threw his spear at the Black Panther, watching as the man stood in shock as the metal pierced his suit.
He smirked as walked towards the center of the airport, ignoring the chaos all around him before letting out his smoke. He felt his eyes shift to black as he let the smoke enter the minds of the opposing team, looking into what their greatest fear was. Lucky for them, he was only using this as a distraction and not to tear their minds apart.
The difference between his and Wanda's ability when it comes to showing someone's fear is that he doesn't make them see everything in their head; their fear appears in front of them, right where they are. And not as a hallucination, but as a real figure. His greatest power: he can bring fears to life. And though it's typically his twin that causes terror, he had to do something.
And as the smoke exited their minds, it floated right in front of them and materialized. He couldn't help but focus on Tony Stark, seeing his fear play out right in front of him. The others were all distracted at the sight of whatever they feared the most, so he was able to focus and watch as the man reacted differently.
Phobos cocked his head in curiosity as he observed the scene. Tony, instead of reacting like the others did, only clenched his jaw and shook his head. No matter how disturbing and disgustingly sweet his fear was: the death of the Avengers. Phobos shook his head before turning his focus back towards Bucky, who was gesturing for him.
"What are you doing?" Phobos asked with a frown as he teleported in front of him. He turned to look at Natasha for a moment, having seen her change sides last minute by incapacitating the man in a cat-suit. "Get to the jet."
Bucky shook his head. "You should come with us."
Phobos smirked a little. "You just want me to stop with my torture, I know you." When Bucky gave him a look, he chuckled. "Fine, fine." He went and raised his arms, watching as his 'minions' dissipated. He turned to look at Bucky again. "You should go, I'll meet you there." Then he himself disappeared.
Bucky stood still for a moment with a smile. He only came back to reality when Steve placed a hand on his shoulder. "Let's go." He shook his head to get rid of some of his thoughts about the god before following his best friend into the jet.
And as he sat there looking at the floor, he decided to ask. "What's gonna happen to your friends?"
Steve continued to face forward with a hardened gaze before shaking his head and replying. "Whatever it is, I'll deal with it."
Bucky stared intently at Steve's chair with a faraway look in his face. "I don't know if I'm worth all this, Steve." He shook his head.
At that, Steve turned to look to the side to fully acknowledge him. "What you did all those years...it wasn't you," he reassured. "You didn't have a choice."
"I know...but I did it." This caused Steve to look forward again. He just didn't know what to say. He knew how much guilt Bucky carried, especially with everything that's happening. He clenched his jaw, his gaze fixated on the sky in front of him.
"Can you..." Steve hesitated for a moment before continuing, "can you tell me about Phobos?"
This caused an uncontrollable to smile to form on Bucky's face. "Okay."
