ㅤ𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐔𝐂𝐊𝐘 𝐆𝐑𝐈𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐎 the helicarrier with his metal arm, he looked down at the falling body of Steve Rogers as it hit the water. He failed his mission, that he knew, and if he went back, they'd wipe him again and use him as their puppet. And so before he could make a concrete decision, he let go and jumped right after the man who knew him in the past.
Bucky had no trouble pulling the man out of the water, and dragged him towards the nearby bank. He looked down and carefully looked over the man's face, seeing flashbacks of the two, with him wearing a uniform.
At the sound of footsteps, he looked up. And there walking towards him was Phobos. The two looked at each other, with the god giving him an apprehensive smile.
"He knew me," Bucky turned away to face Steve's unconscious body again. "He called me Bucky."
Phobos looked down before replying, "I know."
Bucky looked towards the water, not really facing Phobos as his mind was still racing. "How?"
"There's much I need to explain to you, Sergeant," Phobos admitted. "But we have to leave. They'd be here soon."
Bucky finally turned to meet Phobos' dark eyes. "You promise to tell me everything? And tell me who I really am?"
"I promise."
The two then walked away side by side, with Phobos walking on Bucky's left. His leather shoes squeaked as he walked on wet dirt, but he paid them no mind, as he thought of ways he can help the soldier. Then he stopped.
"Close your eyes," he demanded. Bucky only stopped and looked at him in confusion. "Close your eyes."
Bucky frowned, but did as he said. He could see a bright light engulf him, and the feeling of weightlessness overwhelmed him. It only lasted for seconds, but eventually felt the floor beneath his feet. But what he didn't expect was to open his eyes to paradise.
"Where am I?" He asked breathlessly. He turned to look at Phobos who gave him a grin.
"Come, I'll explain everything when we reach my temple."
"Y-Your temple?" But he didn't get an answer, and instead took Phobos' outstretched hand with his right hand. The two began to walk with their hands clasped. Bucky walked wide-eyed; he couldn't believe he was here, wherever he was. Heaven? He wasn't sure, but this place is otherworldly, and he knew it.
It wasn't that far a walk, seeing as Phobos transported them just a few ways from the temple, in the gardens. Looking at Bucky's wide-eyed and jaw-slacked expression was both amusing and adorable. The once intimidating and fear-inducing look of the Winter Soldier was replaced with an almost innocent, childlike daze. He looked around in wonder at the seemingly utopic place he was in.
"Where are we?" Bucky asked as he stepped foot into Phobos' temple. He wasn't exaggerating when he called it a temple: marble columns with black detailing that reminded him of Phobos' eyes surrounded the place, pure black marble walls that he wouldn't doubt was worth more than a country was all around him.
"Olympus," Phobos answered with a shrug, letting go of Bucky's hand.
"What?"
"I told you, I have much to explain," Phobos snapped his fingers, and his suit transformed to a black himation with gold detailing. At the shocked look Bucky gave him, he started to explain. "Do you know anything about Greek mythology, Sergeant?"
Bucky gaped at the sight of Phobos without his suit, seeing half of his toned torso that wasn't covered by the cloth. "I-I...well," Bucky shook his head. "I-I know about Zeus...Aphrodite...just the basics, I suppose."
"Well," Phobos started, walking closer to Bucky who became flushed, "what if I told you that all of it was real? And that you really are in Olympus?"
Bucky frowned, trying to ignore the feelings that the beautiful man was invoking from within him. "That's...that's impossible."
"My name is Phobos, I am the God of Fear," Phobos grinned, his eyes turning black for a second, which Bucky noticed as he took a step back. "My twin brother is Deimos, the God of Terror--"
"Th-there's two of you?"
"Yes," though Phobos replied with a questioning tone before continuing, "my mother is Aphrodite and my father is Ares. Greek mythology is not a myth. But we haven't been in contact with mortals in millennia. Until now."
Bucky started chuckling as if he'd just heard the funniest joke ever. "This-this can't be true! I mean..."
"It's all true, Sergeant."
"Yeah, right," Bucky shook his head. "I...take me back, please."
Phobos looked down before he nodded. "Of course. Close your eyes."
And within a second, they've appeared in Romania, inside an alley. Phobos was now sporting a suit once more, getting looks from the locals as he and the soldier walked out and into a market. Bucky looked down and noticed that he was wearing civilian clothes that covered his metal arm.
"Thanks," Bucky whispered, knowing that it was probably Phobos that changed his clothing. "I'm sorry, that I don't believe you. I probably won't believe you for a while. This is too much to..." Bucky frowned, looking down.
"I understand," Phobos smiled almost shyly. "But you'll have plenty of time to evaluate what you now know. I got you an apartment here, and if you want a job, I can get you one. But for now, you have to lay low. I'll be visiting as often as I can to explain to you who you really are. For now, I have to go back. Here." He pulled out apartment keys and pointed to a relatively normal looking building. "It's not that far, your apartment. I'll be back."
"You promise?"
"I promise."
And for two years, they worked on Bucky's memory. Phobos would give him pictures of the people he knew, especially Steve Rogers. Phobos would explain that he was a soldier in the Second World War. The look on Bucky's face was priceless when told the real reason why the war started.
Eventually, Bucky sort of became normal. He'd write down all the things that he'd remember and would relay them to Phobos. He'd buy some plums after finding out that they helped with memory recall. It was normal.
For a while.
