CHAPTER TEN
JEALOUS

The next week, Chris had finally come back to school and was welcomed with open arms from his friends. Neither Chris nor Kaitlyn talked about what happened in his apartment and wasn't going to. She had spent the whole weekend with him to comfort him since he seemed like he needed it.
It was the first time she had ever seen him such a way and felt like their friendship had evolved. In fact, no one had seen him in such a state and that made Kaitlyn happy. If he had shown her that side of him, it meant that he trusted her, and he did.
So, currently, Chris stood in the hallway at his locker. Stuffing his books and such into the locker. About to place a booklet inside when the locker shut abruptly with a loud bang. Not even turning to see who it was and smiling instantly.
"Fiesty, are we? I like it." He quipped looking to Veronica who smirked. Chris raises a brow expectantly as he leans against the locker. "Oh, shut up." She chuckled slapping his shoulder. "So, what do you need?" He asked with a raised brow.
"Oh, nothing. Just wanted your opinion on, Chuck Clayton." Veronica told him and the boy instantly scoffed and turned on his heel. If she was going to only talk to him about other boys, count him out. "Don't come talking to me about other guys, Ronnie." He told her as he walked away.
He was just being honest. If the girl he liked was going to come to talk to him about other guys, he wasn't going to listen. Any guy would do what he was doing and no one could blame him for it. It just wasn't something Chris could listen to and hear about so he was going to push himself away from Veronica, for the time being.
A thought crossing his mind as he stopped and turned to the girl. "Don't trust him. That's my only warning for you." He told her as she frowned. "You don't have to listen, but just remember I warned you."
And like that, Chris turned around and walked away. Not caring to listen to Veronica's questions of confusion.
Rounding a corner to come across Sheriff Keller and Principal Weatherbee escorting Cheryl. His eyes widening as he moved out of the way to watch her be escorted away. "Get to class, Jones." Principal Weatherbee told the boy who gave a tiny nod as he watched the girl be escorted to the office.

The next day had passed and Chris sat in the student lounge swiping through his phone. Having been told that in fact, Jason wasn't killed on July 4th and the gunshot was not related to his death. But that his death was around July 11th and he was frozen.
The news shattered Chris to know that the killer was out there wandering Riverdale and not worrying about being caught. He was disgusted with it, but couldn't say much since he might've not killed Tommy, but aided with it. So, he couldn't try and act like he was any better.
Chris, Kaitlyn, and Riley sat on a brown leather couch while the others were sitting on other pieces of furniture. For all of yesterday and today, Chris hadn't spoken to Veronica or even made eye contact. The fact that she had the nerve to come up to him and ask about an asshole like Chuck was enough to piss him off.
In no way did he blame her for his sudden cold mood, but she was bad at seeing the signs of his flirting. So many times he had told her that she was beautiful, hot, sexy and that he would love to take her out for a night. Even with him being blatant about it, she never could see it. She was as bad as Archie and that was really saying something.
At the moment, the group was talking about the suspects of Jason's killer. Chris wasn't really interested in listening so he rather just focused on his phone and cigarette to say anything.
"So are you a suspect now?" Veronica questioned Kevin who was eating licorice. "My dad says we all are, including Kaitlyn and me." He replied as Kaitlyn scoffed, leaning her head on Riley's shoulder. "Which I don't understand. I was at the house that entire week." She grumbled in annoyance.
"Not me, girl. I don't know these people." Veronica quipped, looking to Chris to see if she could get anything from him, but nothing came. Only earning a sigh from the boy who leaned back into the couch as Riley leaned against Kaitlyn. "Yeah, but I still wonder what that shot on July 4th was about." Riley voiced out and Chris shrugged. "Maybe a stupid fuck was shooting for shits and giggles." He suggested half-heartedly.
"Guys, should we maybe rebinge Making a Murder on Netflix tonight?" Kevin smiled and a few of them chuckled. "Oh, god. Kev, we've watched that so many times." Kaitlyn giggled. "Sorry. Can't. Gotta stay late to work on the paper." Betty explained as she leaned across the table for Chris's Takis.
When he caught sight of her hand trying to grab them, he recoiled away. "Now, Bets," He began with a teasing smirk. "What have I told you about manners?" He mocked and the blonde scoffed as she snatched the bag out of his hands as he chuckled going through his phone.
"Count me out too. I've got a date tonight."
Chris instantly raised his head directed to Veronica who had a smug look on her face. Gritting his teeth as he inhaled some of his smoke. Glaring at the raven-haired girl as he exhaled deeply.
"You do?" Archie question, glancing at Chris and able to see the pissed look in his eyes. "Which Riverdale hottie made the cut?" Kevin questioned as the girl motioned with her head to Chuck who just entered the room.
"Hey, V-Lo. I'll swing by the Pembrooke to pick you up at 8?" He asked and Veronica smiled. "I'll be waiting." Chuck smiled. "Cool." He said before leaving the lounge with Reggie behind him.
A spark was ignited in Chris as he clenched his fist. Not often did Chris get jealous, but oh boy was he really feeling it now. "So fucking stupid." He grumbled in annoyance as shot up from his spot and exited the lounge.
Not even realizing that many hours had passed and he found himself at Pop's sitting at the counter with a coffee between his fingers. Waiting for the food that he had ordered many minutes ago.
His mind was still blasting through all the thoughts of Veronica going on a date with Chuck. Glancing at his phone to see a text from his dad. Ignoring it and turning his phone off and flipping the screen over and took a sip of his coffee.
The waitress that was new to Pop's came out with the plate full of food and placed it down in front of Chris. "Thanks." He said as he placed a $5 tip on the counter and pushed it towards it. "Oh, you don't have to." She rejected and Chris held his hand up with a polite smile. "You've been nice so I want to repay the favour." He told her and she smiled and took the bill.
Staring at him before pointing at him. "Your FP's oldest, aren't you?" She asked and Chris pursed his lips as he nodded. "That's me." He confirmed as he ate a fry. "Me and your dad went to school together. Hermione Lodge." She introduced and Chris's eyes-widened as this was the first time he ever met Veronica's parents.
There was very little Chris knew about the Lodge's past and he wasn't going to invade their privacy. It wasn't his place to go asking when it didn't include him. So, he was waiting for Veronica to open up and tell him.
Taking the woman's hand, Chris gave a smile. "Nice to meet you." He greeted as he let go. "I now see where Veronica gets her beauty." He complimented and Hermione smiled as light pink dusted over her cheeks. "Oh, your so sweet." She gushed as Chris chuckled.
This weird feeling rubbed the inside of Chris's stomach as he stared directly into Hermione's eyes. "If you need anything, let me know." He told her as she slightly frowned. "I know I'm a high school student, but if you need anyone off your back. Just call me and I'll help." He promised as she nodded with a thankful smile.
Chris sighed as he rubbed his hands. "Now, I know you went through all the trouble of getting this out here, but can I take this to go? Need to head back to the apartment since I got friends most likely waiting for me." He smiled as Hermione nodded grabbing the plate. "No problem, hun."
After a few minutes, Hermione appeared with a bag with the food inside and gave it to the boy. "Thank's, Mrs. Lodge. Don't work too hard tonight." Chris told her as he got his feet. "You have a good night, Jones." She told him before he exited the diner.
The cold wind hit Chris as he sighed heavily as he began making his way to his car. Lifting his head to see Chuck's truck parked right beside his car. Inside the truck was Chuck and Veronica making out.
Grinding his teeth, Chris refrained from doing something he could regret. But when he got inside his car, the warmth hitting his body, he felt his stomach twist. Jealousy was something Chris hated the feeling and wished it wasn't something that existed. All it ever did was brought him bad ideas that would blossom into bigger problems he couldn't be asked to deal with.
Without exactly thinking through what he was about to do, Chris got out of the car. Grabbing the crowbar from the trunk and slamming it shut. Swinging and smashing the brake lights on the back of Chuck's truck before getting in his car. Quickly pulling out of the parking lot and glancing in the rearview mirror to see Chuck watching him whip around a corner and flooring it down the empty streets of Riverdale.
A smirk resting on Chris's lips because if there was one thing Chuck would do, it was to try and fight Chris. And Chris was all for it so, all he could do was wait until tomorrow to smash the captain of the football team's head in.
