Chris was sleeping peacefully on his couch after having gotten comfortable after all night of not being able to sleep. The stiffness of the couch not helping in any way for Chris to relax, but it being enough to sleep on. Jason had told him many times that he should replace it, but for whatever reason, Chris never did. Maybe it was just a small reminder of his best friend that made him feel like the boy was still around. Something Chris desperately needed as he continued to try and accept the loss of the Blossom boy.
That peaceful sleep was rudely interrupted by Jughead nudging Chris from his sleep. The action causing the eldest brother to flinch, his hands clenching as his eyes landed on Jughead. A gentle sigh leaving his lips where his body relaxed and let his eyes flicker close.
"CJ, we have to get to school." Jughead reminded and Chris groaned in annoyance as he waved his brother off. Shuffling in his position as he said, "Just take the car, man. Go without me." Chris mumbled as he turned his tattoo back to Jughead. Even with all the tattoos covering his back, they couldn't hide the scars of his past he was so desperately trying to run away from and escape from for the rest of his life. No one could run away from their past, including Chris. There were no exceptions for anyone like him.
"Can't really do that if I don't have a driver's license. So, get up and get ready." Jughead told his brother before disappearing into the kitchen to prepare a breakfast for himself. Chris groaning as he brought his hands to his eyes and rubbed them. "Smartass," Chris mumbled before he groaned again and stood up and made his way to his bedroom.
Getting changed and sauntering out of the bedroom with a lit cigarette between his lips. Glancing at his brother sitting on the couch having a bowl of cereal. His laptop opened on a document as he sometimes started typing then ate some more, conjuring up more thoughts before typing again.
Since the death of Jason Blossom, the noticeable amount of attention Jughead gave his laptop hadn't gone unnoticed by Chris. He knew that Jughead was typing up a book about the killing of Jason and Chris train himself to not allow it to get to him. Keeping in mind that this was how his brother worked and operated as a person. Even if it annoyed him that his own brother decided to type up a book about his now dead best friend.
Walking into the small kitchen, Chris took a puff off his cigarette before opening the fridge and retrieving a pop before shutting the fridge. "'Kay, let's head out," Chris told his brother who finished his cereal and shut his laptop.
The pair made it out of the apartment and made it to Chris's car. Playinwitme by Kyle coming through on the speakers making Chris instantly turn it up. "Girl, why are you playin' with me? Girl, who are you playin' with? You've been on that new stuff, I've been on the same shit," Chris sang the lyrics as he pulled out of the parking lot and making his way to school.
Flicking the ash off the cigarette, Chris glanced at his brother. Seeing the way his brother seemed to be deep in thought. So, Chris turned the volume down and glanced at his brother. "What you thinking about, Jug?" He asked and Jughead glanced at Chris. "Nothing."
Chris let out a scoff. "Jughead, I know you. I'm your brother. I know when something's on your mind. So, you can tell me what's up." Chris explained before taking the final puff off his cigarette and tossed it out of the window. Hearing a sigh come from Jughead as Chris rolled up the window. "Do you think dad will get a job?" Jughead questioned and Chris laughed. "Fuck no. Do you know our dad? That motherfucker is probably going to drink himself to death." Chris said honestly and Jughead scoffed but didn't protest.
In Chris's opinion, FP was a horrible father. He had driven the family apart and that's what angered Chris the most about his dad. Not seeing Jellybean or his mother left him with an empty feeling in his heart. Like he never really had a sister or mother in his life.
The two Jones didn't continue the conversation as they listened to multiple songs that played. Wolves by Bigsean playing as the two Jones pulled into the student parking lot. A bunch of kids conversing and telling each other's summers. Chris wasn't really interested in any of the kid's conversations and when he turned to make a witty comment to his brother, he found himself alone.
"I swear he's a fucking ninja sometimes." Chris muttered as he locked the doors to his car. Flinching in surprise when he felt a girl hug his waist from behind. Only feeling reassured when he got the familiar scent of vanilla and smiling hearing the girl's voice. "I missed you."
Chris turned to see none other than his friend, Kaitlyn Kellar with a large pout on her face. Chuckling, Chris slung his arm over her shoulder as he slumped down to her level as they walked to the school. "Awe, I missed you as well, kiddo." He teased earning a slap on the chest from the girl who smiled widely. Holding his hand that hung around her shoulder as he pushed the school doors. open. "Don't push your luck, Jones."
As they entered the school, the mass number of kids in the hallways made Chris groan in annoyance. Making Kaitlyn giggle and instantly earn a playful groan from the older boy. Moving through the crowd, Chris stopped at the sound of a wolf howl from behind him. Grinning ear to ear and turning to see Riley Mantle. Another friend of his that had dabbled into some...business with him over the summer.
"CJ!" He yelled with a big grin as he ignored the flirty eyes directed towards him, including Kaitlyn. "Riley!" Chris grinned as he walked towards his friend and embraced him into a hug. "How's my boy doing?" Chris asked as he pulled from the hug and patted the Mantles back. "You know, you know. Just been working at the dad's construction business." He explained briefly, leaving out the large piece of info the pair knew to keep a secret.
"Hey, Riley." Kaitlyn greeted with a large smile and the Mantles boy looked down at her. A smile on his lips as he looked her up and down. Chris trying to not laugh at how obvious the pair liked each other. They were too immature to admit it, but Chris could see it. "Hey, Kaitlyn."
While the pair greeted each other, Chris's eyes wandered down the hallway. Catching sight of a very old and familiar face that had his eyes widen in shock. Not having expected to see her ever again after the girl left for L.A.
There down the hall, stood Olivia Blossom, cousin of Cheryl and Jason Blossom. Chris and Olivia dated in sophomore year and broke up after a scandal that had occurred with her and Reggie Mantle. Not to mention that she was leaving for L.A. so the breakup was inevitable.
Olivia lifted her eyes and found Chris and a ghostly smile formed on her lips before she went the opposite way from where he was. It wasn't like they hated each other, in some ways, Chris found Olivia the one who actually taught him how to date. She was honestly the only girl to ever get him out of his playboy state that he was always in.
But after they ended, he suppressed the heartbreak with sex. Always seeming to have a different girl on his arm every day. So, he pushed the emotions down and replaced them with pleasure.
He had no support or comfort from anyone since he didn't usually open up to people and promised himself he wouldn't. There were many skeletons in his closet and he didn't feel comfortable about sharing it with the world. Not even with Betty, his best friend since childhood. Sure, she had tried to comfort him, but it was always ended in Chris snapping and telling her to leave his apartment.
Sighing softly, Chris scratched his beard earning the pair in front of him to glance at him. "What's up?" Kaitlyn asked and Chris shook his head, forcing a smile. "I'm good." He lied and he could see Kaitlyn was hesitant to believe so but nodded.
Not able to start a new conversation since Betty Cooper appeared, a smile on her face directed towards Chris. "We have a new student we have to give a tour for. Let's go." She explained to him as she grabbed his hand and began pulling Chris. Waving to the two that were left behind. "Also hi, Riley and Kaitlyn." Betty greeted with a smile and earning two smiles and waves from the pair.
"Slow down, Bets. Who are we giving a tour for?" Chris questioned with a chuckle. Only his face fell to shock to hear the very familiar name to fall from the blonde's lips.
"Veronica Lodge."
