Doppelgängers are complicated little things. Having to share a face with someone, even one who's already lived centuries before you, is quite disturbing. Not to mention the troubles that the doppelgängers are dragged into, whether it be a witch's, a vampire's, or a werewolf's business. Dakota Grant knows what it feels like since she herself is a doppelgänger. What sets her apart from Elena Gilbert is that Dakota actually has a face that history never forgets. A face plastered in paintings, in books, even in memories. The face of the late Queen Mary of Scots.

Over the course of her life, those of which had seen a portrait of the late Queen of Scotland would say how uncanny the resemblance was. Dakota thought nothing of it until the Mikaelson Family strolled into town and indeed confirmed how utterly similar the two were given that they were actually acquainted with the Queen before she was beheaded—some even more. Some being Kol Mikaelson.

And no, not because Mary and Kol had a romantic thing going on back then. They had a thing, although it was driven by hate. The two could not stay civil and would always find ways and loopholes to try and defeat the other. Truths were exposed. Lies were told. Lines were crossed. Blood was spilled...Heads were decapitated. Their relationship was built on revenge after revenge after revenge.

In a nutshell, Mary and Kol were always at each other's throats. When Mary was executed in England, Kol won the game. But centuries later, when the Mikaelsons laid their eyes upon Dakota, Kol thought that the universe must be screwing with him.

Not only did Dakota inherit the Queen's face, she also inherited Kol's hatred—only to find out that Dakota is actually nothing like Mary.

He was once again playing the royal game, only this time, he's losing.

To my readers who have been there since my Jasper Hale Fic, Once In A Blue Moon—especially to those who have been there since my Delicate and Fragile Damon fic, goddamn you were there since the very beginning, I love you guys so much. This book Royal Game is probably the most thoroughly planned and complex fic I've ever written. I've put so much effort in making sure this story was a rollercoaster of emotions; that it would be entertaining, heartbreaking, gory, romantic, nerve wracking, and chilling. I hope you guys love it as much as I do.

𝐀 𝐔 𝐓 𝐇 𝐎 𝐑 ' 𝐒 𝐍 𝐎 𝐓 𝐄
(I KNOW IT'S LENGTHY, BUT READ IT)

First of all, before y'all come at me, I just wanna say that I do not support Nate at all. I do not like him. But after thinking about it (quite hard, might I add), I realized that I really cannot imagine any other actor playing the role of Kol Mikaelson. Obviously, I love Daniel Sharman, I think he played witch Kol perfectly. But I could not see him playing vampire Kol. I hope that you guys understand. We can all love Kol and hate Nate at the same time. But if you're still uncomfortable with that, you can set this book down (no hard feelings).

Second of all, this book will be jumping back and forth between flashbacks and present time. I intend to show Kol's story with Mary and Dakota at the same time. So that'll be fun.

Third of all, events about Mary's story will be historically inaccurate and altered for dramatic purposes (as if her story is not already dramatic enough). Of course this would be historically inaccurate, I'm fitting Mary Stuart to the TVDU and the Mikaelsons to Mary Stuart's story. So I'll be shaking things up a bit, just enough to fit the TVD vibe. Though I'm warning you guys that despite researching about her life, I still might get a few things wrong. So bare with me. And remember, this is fiction guys. Basically just a reimagined story of her life in the TVDU.

Fourth, the story is divided into two parts. Part one will be kind of more character-driven while part two will be plot-driven. The whole story is also quite heavy in dialogue as my writing is not descriptive enough and I struggle to do so. English is not my first language but I am quite fluent in it. Plus, there's a chance that you might hate Mary and/or Kol when I tell their story because once the feud between them start, there is no line that they wouldn't cross (most of the time) just to see the other suffer. But that's what character developments are for, even when some of them have limited appearances.

And fifth, I'm a busy college girl that likes to write. So, if at some point while writing this book it suddenly takes me long to update, bare with me, alright? I mean, we do have lives outside Wattpad. Commenting of 'update', 'pls update', and etc. are discouraged. It ain't gonna make me write faster, folks.

And sixth, HAVE FUN READING! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I enjoy writing it.
