[real life]

the doors click open, one by one, and a rich mom steps out from each vehicle. ready for the tour.
chris shifts beside alessia, and she jolts back to reality. when he moved forward, she stepped out faster in front of him, her model student smile appearing. she had practiced it in front of her mirror everyday.
"are you here for the school tour?" alessia says in her very best french. the first mom blinks at her, scoffs and the replies in english. "yes i am"
heat shot up to her face. without even having to look she could sense chris smirking, his happiness at her embarrassment.
chris took this moment for granted and make his grand entrance. his posture straight, chin up and the smug grin transformed into a warm smile.
"hello" he says, "i'm chris sturniolo, the school captain, and ill be showing you around the campus this morning."
alessia cleared her throat but all chris did was raise his brow. she cleared her through again louder this time. "oh and this is alessia" he says after a while looking in her direction. "the other captain"
"school caption" alessia emphases. her smile was starting to hurt her face. "i'm school caption. i'm also set to be valedictorian"
"i honestly dont think they care" chris murmurs into her ear, his voice low enough for only her to hear. his breath warm despite the freezing weather. alessia tried to act like he didn't exist but this was difficult by the fact that all four moms were busy scanning chris from head to toe, like they were trying to pick out their future son in law.
"how old are you?" one of them asked
"seventeen" chris said readily.
"you look very tall" another mom said. "what's your height?"
"five foot ten on a good day" he replied patiently.
"that is so tall !!!!!!!!!!!!!" she said impressed
"and you've been at this school for how long?"
"ten years" he replies. "almost my entire life"
alessia pressed her tongue down against the sharp edge of her teeth. this part she could answer for him. by either curse or coincidence they had entered starline academy in the same year. she had been the quiet girl, the shy one, the new kid nobody really wanted anything to do with, while chris was interesting, mysterious, effortlessly cool.
chris had acted as if he already knew he would one day rule the place, taking everything in with that icey blue gaze of his.
then once in pe, they were playing dodgeball. the second he had the ball in his hands, his eyes slid to alessia. pinned her down. it was like those david attenborough animal documentaries where you watch in slow motion as the serpent closes in on its prey. she was the rabbit; he was the snake.
somehow, out of the thirty or something kids in that sweaty, poorly ventilated gym, he had picked alessia as the person to beat.
but she was exceptionally good at dodging, light and fast on her feet. each time he aimed at her, she would swerved out of the way. in the end, it was only the two of them left. chris kept throwing. alessia kept ducking. it probably would have gone on like that until the very last period, but the other kids in their class were getting tired of standing around, and the teacher had to step in and call it a tie.
from that point on, chris sturniolo had become the bane of alessia's existence. the issue is that nobody else seems to share her frustrations.
in fact, the moms are already in love with him. he was still smiling and nodding along, asking the moms about their health and their cooking, and they're all just eating it up
