CHAPTER FIFTEEN!

"-FIANCE- ENEMY, TARGET, mutt! And now ally? Yeah, I'll add that to the list of words I use to try to figure you out!", Peeta's voice pulled Kathryn and the others out of their sleep.

Kathryn and Finnick, who were laying behind one of the tables, cuddled up to each other, both sat up and gazed towards Katniss and Peeta.

After a moment Peeta took notice of his harsh and loud tone, "I'm sorry- I just can't tell what's real and what's made up anymore."

"Then ask-", Kathryn immediately told him. "That's what Annie does."

"Ask who?", Peeta questioned him. "Us- we're your unit now", Jackson told him, engaging into the conversation.

Peeta's head slowly turned towards Katniss, "You're favourite color is green- is that real?"

"Yeah- that's real." Katniss voice was only above a whisper when she answered him. "Yours is orange- not bright orange- soft, like the sunset", she told him and Peeta nodded his head. "Thank you."

"You're a painter- you're a baker- you always sleep with the windows open- you never take sugar in your tea- you always double-knot your shoelaces-", her eyes began to tear up slowly and Katniss immediately got onto her feet, glancing at Jackson. "You were right- I can't do this."

Kathryn watched how Katniss went into the next room. Her heart was hurting for the woman. She clearly loved Peeta, but his head was all messed up. If he would ever be the same, no one knew.

When Kathryn placed her head onto Finnick's chest and closed her eyes, she began listing off things in her head that she knew about Finnick. - He loved watching the sunset- his cockiness was a shield that he had built around himself a long time ago - he was very good with children- he has green freckles in his blue eyes- he loved neck kisses- he always kissed her forehead-

The brunette felt herself slowly fading into her dreams and she continued the list until there was only darkness.

The necg morning they decided to move forward and everyone gathered their stuff before they continued their way.

"Listen up! Mag's empty-", Boggs showed them all the empty mag before he put it back into the machine gun. "It's only for the propo."

He then handed the gun to Peeta, who took it from his hands, seeming like he didn't even know how to hold it properly. "Let's move- we're headed five blocks north."

While they were walking through that ghost city, Finnick and Kathryn tired to help Peeta to memorize the speech he would give later for the propo.

"To the citizen of the capitol, our war is not with you-", Finnick read out aloud while him and Kathryn were walking along side Peeta.

"To the citizen of the capitol, our war is not with you", Peeta repeated his words after him.

"You will be a vital part of the democracy that follows of our victory", Finnick continued for him and Peeta immediately repeated. "You will be a vital part of the democracy that follows of our victory."

Finnick smiled slightly while he gave Peeta a encouraging nodd, "You got it." Peeta stated straight ahead, "Okay."

They made their way through large passageways until they reached a courtyard that had the form of a circle.
In it's middle stop a large monument that looked like a gate.

"Boggs- this is a good spot", Cressida told the man at the front, making them all stop walking. "Through there, in the courtyard."

"Okay, let us clear", the man spoke while he walked further down onto the courtyard while watching the holo closely.

Everyone followed after him and Kathryn's heart jumped when she heard the beeping sound from the holo.

They were standing right infront of the gigantic gate when he pointed at the two sides where they could take cover. "Split and take cover!"

There was silence while everyone took cover behind the stone walls. Kathryn was besides Boggs, Peeta and Finnick.

Boggs grabbed a piece of small debri and threw it through the gate. "Stay back."

There were guns coming out of the wall and firing at athe passageway.

Kathryn immediately covered her ears and turned away from the stones that were flying at the faces.

The firing stopped and when Kathryn turned towards Finnick she saw that the man was smirking and the brunette gave him a dark glare before she got up onto her feet.

"All clear- Gale, Homes, with me- Leegs, take the wings", Boggs instructed them.

Gale and Homes then walked with Boggs through the middle of the gate while the Leeg sisters walked at the sides.

Suddenly an explosion went off and Kathryn saw Katniss immediately running towards Boggs, who was laying on the ground, as well as the Leeg sisters.

Kathryn immediately ran after her, towards Boggs while she heard Jackson screaming, "Everdeen, no! Moore, Hold your position!"

The brunette ignored the lieutenant, "Boggs!"

Homes and Gale were immediately sitting besides them, "Grab the tourniquets from the bag! Squeeze his legs as hard as you can."

"The holo- the holo!", Boggs told Kathryn. The brunette could hear one of the Leeg sisters cry out in pain while she grabbed the holo and placed it onto Boggs chest.

The man immediately activated it, "Unfit for command - transfer primary security clearance-" His eyes went to Katniss, "Say your name-"

"Katniss Everdeen." Katniss seemed confused while she exchanged a look with Kathryn, "What did you just do?"

Boggs eyes were wide while he stared at her, "Katniss- don't trust them. Kill Peeta, if you have to. Do what you came to do." After that his breathing stopped and the glint in his eyes disappeared.

Kathryn felt the tears whelm up in her eyes, "Boggs- Boggs!-"

"Come on- come on! He's gone! He's gone", Gale said while he placed a hand on Homes shoulders to stop him from continuing first aid.

One of the Leeg sister still laid on the ground, screaming in pian while her sister held her position, the pain she felt for her sister, visible on her face.

Her sister screamed out once more and the other Leeg sister took a couple of steps towards her. But after she took a step, a mechanic sound could be heard.

Kathryn's head immediately snapped towards the blond, her eyes widening in fear.

The ground beneath the blond sunk in and the passageway through the courtyard closed on every side.

After they had closed a black liquid started pouring into the courtyard.

Kathryn's eyes widened even more and she immediately jumped onto her feet, "Fuck- run!"

"This way- keep moving!", Jackson was at the front and they started running towards one of the buildings. "Let's go soldiers! Get to higher ground!"

They had nearly reached the building, when Peeta suddenly yanked Katniss on her jacket and tried to hit her in the head with his machine gun.

Kathryn only took notice of it when she heard someone scream out in pain and when she turned around one of their soldiers had touched the black liquid and was now hanging in the air, his lifeless body covered in it.

Finnick immediately took Peeta in a headlock and dragged him into the building with them.

"Everyone inside! Go!"

They were all running up the stairs of the building and Kathryn's heart was pumping while she saw how the black liquid was making it's way up.

Finnick was still fighting to keep Peeta under control and when they were at the top Homes gave him a injection that calmed him down.

Kathryn watched worried how the liquid came closer and closer. "It's slowing down."

"The gamemakers are still putting on quiet a show", Jackson stated, releasing a deeo breath while they watched the black liquid retreat slowly.

"451 to base. Over", Jackson said while she spoke into her communicator.

"Hey, we better move- if the peacekeepers didn't know where we weretgey do now", Homes stated, the panic in his voice was clear. "Those surveillance cameras caught us."

"451 to base- come in", Jackson tried to make contact.

"This is a bad spot- we need to move now", Gale pressured Jackson.
Jackson ignored them, "451 to base- over."

"I can't get a signal", she then said while she looked at them. "But I can get us back to base. Everdeen, give me the holo", Jackson instructed her but Katniss just looked at her as if she was deep in her own thoughts.

Jackson gave the brunette a questioning look, "Everdeen, what did I just say? The holo. Com on, let's go!"

"Boggs gave it to me-", Katniss told her while she gave the woman an apologizing look. Jackson's head snapped towards her, a frown on her face, "What are you talking about?"

"He did. He transferred security clearance to her", Homes told them while he looked over at Jackson. "I saw him."

Jackson seemed sceptical, "And why would he do that?" After a moment of silence Katniss spoke, "I'm on special orders from Coin-"

"To do what?", Jackson questioned her further.

"To assassinate President Snow."

Kathryn gave Katniss a surprised look. She honestly didn't believe that Coin has ordered her to do anything like this, but the word of Boggs echoed in her head. "Don't trust them."

Jackson narrowed her eyes at Katniss before she spoke, "I don't believe that for one second. As your new unti commander, I order you to transfer security clearance to me now."

Katniss shook her head at the woman, "I can't do that."

Jackson immediately grabbed her gun from her holster and Gale quickly stepped beside Katniss, his machine gun on Jackson.

The Leeg sister immediately pointed her gun at them while Kathryn and Homes also pointed their guns at them. "Let's not lose our head here."

"I'm not asking you again, Everdeen. Give me that holo-"

Suddenly Cressida stepped between them, right infront of Jacksons gun, "She's telling the trust. Plutarch want it televisied. He thinks, the Mockingjay assassinating snow, it'll make the capitol surrender before the casualties get too high."

"While we're arguing, there's a hundred peacekeepers in their way here", Gale informed them tense.

"Boggs promised me that when the time came, you would help me" Katniss told the brunette woman. Jackson eyed her carefully before she slowly put her weapon away. "All right, soldier, holo's your's."

The two women then nodded at each other before Gale stepped forward and looked downstairs. "I don't think we're gonna leave any footprints. We should move now and those cameras outside should be covered up by the oil."

"She can't move forward like this- her leg is too bad. We have to evacuat her", Castor stated loudly while he looked up at them from besides the Leeg sister that sat on the ground. "I'm sorry."

"I'll stay with her" her sister immediately said while she crouched down besides her twin.

"As soon as we make contact, we will send somebody back I promise you" Jackson told them before she turned towards the stairs. "All right, everybody, move out! Let's go!"

Finnick had his hand still wrapped around Peeta's upper arm while they walked out into the courtyard and into a building on the opposite.

There they hid in a quiet modern designed flat, that was still very neat.

"Get these curtains closed!"

They immediately closed the curtains until a moment later the Peacekeepers and trucks came into the courtyard.

There was firing and a moment later a rocket launcher flew into the building were the Leegs were, destroying it completely.

Kathryn flinched back and let the curtains fall shut while she felt this sickness in her stomach once more. She felt like she had to throw up while the tears were burning in her eyes.

Suddenly a chim could be heard and the capitol banner appeared on the screen infront of her.

A moment later Caesar Flickerman appeared, his hair was purple and his expensive suit made out of red and black silk as it seemed.

The man was looking into the camera while he spoke, "Good afternoon, I'm Caesar Flickerman. Here with our continuing coverage of the defense of the capitol. Today, as our peacekeepers valiantly hold off the rebels, our story takes a surprising twist."

Suddenly footage of them running from the black oil appeared. "Katniss Everdeen, our once favourite daughter, has I filtrated the city with some of the Victors, whose names are all too familiar. Finnick Odair, Kathryn Moore and Peeta Mellark."

They could watch how Peeta dragged Katniss to the ground, Flickerman shrugged at the camera, "Mhm- clearly some alliances don't last forever. Take a look at what happened just a moment ago, when our peacekeepers cornered Katniss Everdeen and her band of foolish rebels. Whatever arrogance brought this treacherous girl back to us, you are about to witness a great victory, not only for the Capitol, but for Panem."

Then there was footage of how the Peacekeepers destroyed the building on there opposite just seconds ago.

"So there you have it- Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, a girl who inspired so much violence, seems to have met a violent end herself. Stay tuned for more information. Caesar Flickerman. Thank you."

Gale looked around the room before he spoke, "So now that we're dead, what are we gonna do?"

"Isn't it obvious? The next move is to kill me", Peeta told them,his vkice calm while his eyes were staring at the ground. "I murdered one of our squad members. Katniss is right- I'm a mutt. And it's only a matter of time before I snap again."

His eyes met those of Katniss, "I'm not in control. I need a nightlock pill, so I can die when I need to."

"If it comes to that point, I'll kill you myself ", Gale told him honestly while he stared at the blond man.

Silence filled the room after that and just about a few minutes later the song of the capitol could be heard and the monitor started to show pictures of them. Starting off with Cressida, then Castor, Pollux and Messalla.

Kathryn flinched when she saw Finnick's picture in the screen. And then her own. After her came Peeta and at last came Katniss before the screen went to show a video of Snow.

"So, Katniss Everdeen, a poor unstable girl with nothing but a small talent with a bow and arrow, so dead. Not a thinker, not a leader. Simply a face plucked from the masses. Was she valuable? She wa extremely valuable to your rebellion because you have no vision, no true leader among you. You call yourselves an alliance. But we saw what that means. Your soldiers are at each other's throats."

Suddenly the monitor slowly switched up and to Kathryn's surprise President Coin appeared on the screen. "I am President Alma Coin, leader of the rebellion. I have interrupted a broadcast from your president in which he attempted to defame a brave young woman. 'A face picked from the masses', he called her. As if a leader, a true leader, could be anything else. I had the privilege of knowing a small-town girl from the seam in district twelve, who survived the hunger games ans the quarter quell and rose up and turned a nation of slaves into an army!"

Her voice began to break while she stared at the camera, "Dead or alive, Katniss Everdeen will remain the face of this revolution. She will not have died for nothing!"

Katniss scoffed loudly for everyone to hear, "I had no idea I meant so much to her."

"Her vision and ours will be realized. A free Panem with self-determination for all! And in her memory, we will all find the strength to rid Panem of it's oppressors. Thank you and be safe", Coin ended her speech and right after she disappeared, a picture of Katniss appeared on the screen and the sound of the rebellion, this whistling could be heard.

Katniss grabbed the holo and positioned herself infront of the table before she activated it. "Snow is in his mansion - where is that?"

They all gathered around the table and Cressida pointed at a building at one end and then at a building on the other end of the holo map. "That's us- that's the city circle. It's at least 70, 75 blocks north.

Finnick's eyebrows shot up, "Seventy-five blocks?"

Cressida nodded at him, "Uh-huh"

Katniss didn't want to hear anybody being negative right now, "Nobody knows we're alive. This is our chance. These buildings. Do these look over Snow's gardens?"

"I-", Cressida shook her head and shrugged slightly. "They do." Messalla nodded at them.

"If he goes outside at all, I could get a clear shot", Katniss told them confidently.

Jackson, who gave Katniss a sceptical look, now tried to bring them back to reality, "We're getting ahead of ourselves here. Wether they're looking for us or not, we are pinned down. Hit that button. Scan for pods."

Katniss activated the button and the orange dots appeared. They were almost everywhere. "Just about every ten steps", Kathryn stated while she leaned back in her seat.

"Yeah, that's doesn't even show the new ones", Gale agreed with her. "So we can't go anywhere in the streets."

"And the rooftops are just as bad", Jackson stated simply while she looked at the map.

Suddenly Castor spoke catching their attention, "There might be another way-"
