fifteen
Just as she was about to reply with a snarky comment, a loud shot resonnated against the walls of the mansion.
Junseo, who had been fast asleep, sprung to his feet, eyes wide, clutching Chaewon who was just as terrified.
"Move! Get inside the- " Manseok's orders stopped as his eyes rolled backwards from the impact of the bullet, making him drop, a pool of blood surrounding his upper body. Manseok, a man who I'd known all my life, was dead.
Chaewon screamed hysterically and Jeongin leapt towards her, pushing her down onto the floor alongside my brother. Changbin grabbed me and Bitna as we too landed on the ground, a second bullet piercing the glass that led outside.
"What's going on?" My voice was trembling.
"Yakuza!" Was all my bodyguard said as he dragged the two of us into the living room towards Chaewon and Junseo who hid behind a lounge.
"My siblings - "
Changbin shoved me towards a concealed staircase which led down into the basement below, into the panic room. "Go down there, I'll bring the others,"
He went off once more and I froze on the steps when I realised that Bitna wasn't with us. How? She had come into the living room with us, where had she gone?
"Fuck," Changbin was on the phone, his eyes dark, wild, running a hand through his hair as Jeongin brought Chaewon and Junseo to us. "How many? Alright, yeah,"
He hung up before facing Jeongin and I. "There's too many on the property. We need to get you three down to the panic room and stay in there until I come and get you, okay?"
"Take them," I squeezed my sibling's shoulders. "I need to find Bitna,"
"Nayoung," Changbin hissed. "You are my responsibility, if anything happens to you-"
"And I'm prepared to take that risk. But if anything happens to Chaewon and Junseo, then I will lose it, nothing you say will change my mind, Changbin. Take them to the panic room and keep them alive," We stared at each other for a moment before he gave me a curt nod, turning to my siblings.
"Stay down and do exactly what I say,"
"You too, Jeongin," I stared at the youngest of the boys who hesitated, passing me a spare gun, before following his brother down the stairs.
I went back into the garden, my heart pounding as I took each step, drawing my eyes away from the body that belonged to Manseok. The vibration from my phone alerted me that Chan was calling and as I put it against my ear, I could hear the panic in his voice.
"Nayoung?" He tried. "Are you safe?"
"Manseok is dead," That was the first thing that came out of my mouth.
"Are you in the panic room?"
"I'm looking for Bitna,"
"What? Go back into the panic room, where's Changbin?"
"He's taken Chaewon and Junseo into the panic room, Jeongin's with him. I have to find Bitna,"
"Nayoung," Chan's voice sounded desperate. "Nayoung, please, the Yakuza want you. I'm taking a helicopter, I'll be there in fifteen minutes,"
I froze once I caught sight of Bitna running towards me. Even if Chan managed to get here that quickly, there were still so many of them in the house. There was a chance that he wouldn't be able to fight them off.
"I have to go," I whispered, hanging up.
Bitna pushed into me at full force, her hands wrapping around me, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"We need to hide," She croaked. "Now,"
Suddenly, Chaewon's scream pierced through the night and we gasped before running back into the house, not before I took some of Manseok's knives and the gun he had, passing them to my sister.
The living room was deserted and darkness engulfed the house. The power must have been cut off. We crept around, not making a single sound as we approached the door that led into the lobby.
A hand grabbed my waist and I let out a scream, trying to get a grip on my gun, but that was already taken from me. Bitna gasped and I tried to kick my attacker but he was far stronger, pushing me to the ground roughly, a snarl of Japanese coming my way.
He grabbed my hair, ignoring the blood that was dripping down my face and I managed to get a glimpse of Bitna, struggling in the arms of another tall man.
I was thrown on my knees towards a man smoking a cigarette and the smoke hit my face when he asked in Korean "What's your name?"
Strange. Perhaps he didn't recognise me with the blood. Instead of providing an answer, I stared at him with hatred. He kicked me in the stomach, causing me to gasp for breath. "I asked for your name, whore,"
I kept my mouth shut as my eyes fell onto a soldier who was gurgling, blood encompassing him.
"I want an answer, or should I get this one to be hurt for you to give me a name?"
Panic flitted into my eyes. I would not let them hurt Bitna.
"Nayoung," I answered quietly.
"Song Nayoung? Bang Chan's wife?"
I nodded. He said something to the others in Japanese and they laughed.
"Where are the others? The shadow and the kids,"
"I don't know,"
The sound of a slap penetrated through the lobby as Bitna's cheeks were now a glowing red.
Sudden voices and shouting as well as shooting carried over to us, as I was pulled against their leader, a knife glistening beneath my chin, just grazing my throat.
Terror engulfed me as Bitna was held down and a Yakuza soldier flung backwards at the impact of a shot. Chan and Minho and Seungmin walked in, guns a blaze.
"Your wife, Bang Chan?"
Chan's face was a mask of fury and Minho's eyes flickered towards Bitna, his knives twisting and turning in his hands as she was held down. Seungmin's gaze was moving from soldier to soldier, analysing, figuring out how we could all escape.
"She's a pretty little thing, isn't she? I wonder if she tastes as good as she looks," The man pressed his lips to the curve of my neck and I had to stop myself from throwing up.
"Let her go, Junichiro," My husband snarled.
Junichiro let out a laugh. "Drop the guns, all of them,"
There was no way that Chan and the others would do that. But devestation flooded me as my husband did exactly that, Minho too dropped his gun and suddenly his knives had disappeared. Seungmin lowered his as they all stared, waiting for the next move.
As Junichiro's lips began trailing across my skin, I grabbed the knife in my back pocket and rammed his thigh, causing him to cry out in pain, lashing back, and before he could grab me, I'd already managed to stumble into Chan.
All hell broke loose at that point. Minho threw his knives into the soldier that had been keeping Bitna and Hyunjin shot at the other one who'd been keeping guard. Chan held on to me as he kept shooting, bullet after bullet and suddenly, Chan was there too, and Jisung, and Felix, Hyunjin. Bitna was gone from her spot and I assumed that Minho had taken her.
My eyes fell to a Yakuza soldier who pointed his gun straight at Chan, who hadn't seemed to notice. I didn't even think. I loved this man, and I needed to protect him too. I cried out in warning, hurling my other knife at the man, who collapsed, but not before he had fired. The impact was powerful, and my back was in complete and absolute pain.
I crumbled in Chan's arms and whilst I was slipping in and out of consciousness, my mouth moved to talk. "Are you okay?" My hands cupped his face.
"Yes," He got out. "But you aren't," He pressed down on the wound.
"Bitna? Chaewon and Junseo, are the- "
"Here, we're all safe," Bitna's voice was far away but I had heard it. They were safe.
"We need to take her to a hospital," Chan muttered, his index finger grazing my cheek.
Seungmin shook his head. "Let Doc treat her, if we take her to hospital then too many questions will be asked,"
Chan's face morphed into anger, but I placed a hand on his chest. "Seungmin's right, it's too dangerous, Doc can treat me,"
But before I could say any more, I had fell into complete darkness.
