Give him a chance.

You shrank uncomfortably between your two guard escorts. Frigga looked at you and winced an apology, but she had said it was policy.

A mess of red, silver and gold came flying from one of the adjoining hallways, nearly knocking you over. You were going to be offended, but then realised that it was Thor.

"You look beautiful, Lady Y/N," he said, taking your hand in his and kissing it.

"Thanks, Thor," you grinned shyly up at him.

Another pair of guards came loudly marching up to the three of you (well, five including the escorts). "Lady Y/N and the Prince are needed in the throne room now."

"Of course," you took Thor's arm and quickly glided down the hall, until reaching the ornate throne room doors.

"Presenting," you heard a loud, deep voice boom. "Prince Thor, and our guest, Lady Y/N Y/L/N!"

You walked through the doors as they opened, and were surprised to see that people were gasping in awe at your dress, your hair, your makeup; everything. You truly felt like a princess in the moment,

You let Thor guide you to the right of Odin's throne, where you had to stand arm in arm with him. Not that you were complaining. Thor was a sweet guy. You saw Loki out of the corner of your next to Frigga, and you figured it was an illusion since he had no chains.

His eyes didn't move from you, and there was something you couldn't read in his gaze - a rare look with no malicious intent.

"Asgardians!" Odin called out, and a veil of silence settled on the room. "It is my great pleasure to present to you Y/N Y/L/N! A lost child of the Nine Realms on Midgard, reunited with us."

You frowned slightly, uneasy with his lies. Thor gave your arm a reassuring, but warning squeeze, reminding you to smile for the crowds.

Heaven forbid Odin be unpopular for allowing a Jotun in Asgard, you thought, mentally rolling your eyes.

"We have some very exciting news," Odin continued, and you tensed. You didn't like where this was going. "As of next month, Prince Thor and Lady Y/N are going to be married."

"What?!" you both shouted, drowned by the cheering of the crowds. Loki looked ... hurt, goddamnit why were Frost Giants so confusing?

Odin quickly dismissed the people, and when you turned to see Thor, you were glad he seemed just as mad as you.

As soon as the hall was empty, you turned on the old man, not caring if you were being rude or whatever. "What? Needed the crowds to clear out so they didn't see through your lies? I'm not marrying Thor!"

"Nor I Lady Y/N," Thor stepped up next to you. "No offence."

"None taken," you replied out of the corner of you mouth, staring down Odin with as much anger as you could muster.

"You know that I am courting Jane, Father!" Thor growled; he was the angriest you'd ever seen him. "I will not participate in this arranged marriage! We are not in the old times any longer."

You risked a glance at Loki, and he seemed furious: but you couldn't tell who's side he was on.

"Enough!" Odin yelled, the noise similar enough to a petulant child. "I am the King! And if I deem you a worthy fit for my son, you shall marry him! And neither will complain!"

You felt tears come to your eyes, and you took several steps back.

"Y/N-" Thor reached for you, but you turned, slipping off your heels, lifting your gown and running away. You knew where you needed to go.

"What are you doing here?" Loki asked you, coldly.

"I'm here to talk to you," you responded simply, settling down right next to the barrier and leaning against the wall just like he was, on the other side.

"So you're not too busy making out with Thor?" Loki bit out.

You looked at him in shock, and he at least had the decency to look ashamed when he saw that you were seconds away from crying.

"Loki, I don't want to marry Thor. I thought I'd be happy coming to Asgard, but I just feel trapped again ..." you felt a tear slip down your cheek. "I don't know why I bothered to come."

"Love." You tensed a little at the nickname. "I apologise. That was ... unkind. I didn't think about how you'd be feeling."

"I hate this," you sobbed, leaning your head against the barrier. Loki got as close to it as he could without being shocked, watching you with a genuine sadness within those blue depths of eyes. "I hate it."

"May I distract you?" Loki asked gently.

You sniffed and nodded, wiping at your ruined makeup. "Sure."

"You look beautiful right now. Green and gold suits you."

You gave a watery smile. "We're matching."

Loki looked down at his own clothes and realised that his mother had dressed you. In his colours ...

"So we are."
