"What's up, bitches?" you smirked, walking into the apartment you shared with your best friends, Y/B/F/N and Summer.
"Hey, Y/N!" they grinned, looking up from where they were making dinner.
"Can I help with that?" you asked, motioning to the nachos.
"Nah, we're just about done," Y/B/F/N waved her hand, slipping the dish into the oven and recoiling a moment later with a hiss. "Ah! Shit! I burnt my finger. Y/N/N, come here."
You came over, touching her finger with yours. Summer and Y/B/F/N knew you for always having cold skin, though they didn't know it was because you were a Frost Giant.
Nobody knew that.
Y/B/F/N sighed happily as your cool fingers calmed the burn. "Thanks Y/N/N."
"Hey, you guys are the reason I'm living here and not on the street," you grinned. "Least I could do."
"Y/N, you're the best roommate," Summer chimed in. "Plus, all three of us pay for rent so..."
"And I do have the best job out of all of us," you teased.
"Being a waitress is not better than working in an ice cream cafe," Y/B/F/N argued.
"It's better than working at my diner," Summer grumbled, pulling at her braids. She was Haitian-American, and was on the receiving amount of a ridiculous amount of racism and prejudice.
You made a sincerely sympathetic face, turning back to the argument a moment later. "But, Y/B/F/N, I happen to work next to Stark Tower. And I have so far served Tony Stark, his girlfriend, and Captain America."
Y/B/F/N sighed. "You win, Y/N/N."
"Of course I d- hey!"
Summer giggled as you shook out your hands, Y/B/F/N having splashed water from the running tap at you.
Everything is okay here. I'm safe.

You concentrated, shooting a blast of ice from your hands. It impaled itself in a tree. Deadly sharp.
You'd developed a routine of sneaking out of the apartment every night to practice your Jotun powers. Under the cover of darkness, of course, so no one could see your blue skin or red eyes.
"Come on, Y/N." You gritted your teeth, summoning swords made of solid ice.
You whirled around, slicing through the brach of a tree. It fell to the ground as you banished the swords, the blue fading from your features. You crumbled to a sitting position in the snow, head in your hands. You had Summer and Y/B/F/N, but you still felt just as alone as when you'd been abandoned.
I wish there was someone like me, you thought. Another Jotun in a different world.
But of course there isn't. I'm alone. Not for the first time, you began to cry in the snow, your tears hardening to solid ice that rolled steadily down your cheeks.

"Y/N, seriously, are you okay?" Summer asked concernedly, spooning cereal into her mouth.
"Yeah," you lied, smoothing down your waitress uniform as you got ready for the day.
"She's lying, I can hear it!" Y/B/F/N called from where she's changing into her pinafore.
"Look guys, I'm fine," you said. Summer believed you, but Y/B/F/N emerged from her room, staring at you.
"You've been crying," she observed softly. "Y/N/N, we're your best friends. You can tell us anything."
You hated lying to them, but they can't know you're a Frost Giant. First, they'd hate you, you were sure, and with Laufey after you, you'd put them in danger. "I really miss my parents."
And that wasn't really a lie, so the truthful tears leaking from your eyes made it really believable.
"Oh, honey." Summer swept you up in a hug, Y/B/F/N embracing the both of you. "I'm sorry."
"Thanks guys," you wiped your eyes, sniffling with a small smile. "You're the best."
"We know," they chorused, as the three of you went out to work.

Honestly, you thought it'd be a nice normal day. The sun was out and shining, casting a pleasant atmosphere in the very air.
But, of course, everything had to get fucked up. Some absolute useless sous chef had spilled soup all over you, so you had to go home and change out of your now soiled uniform. And then, when you got back to the apartment, you knocked into a vase that shattered.
It was glass, and lay on the ground with a broken finality, drips of your blue blood dotting it like art.
And of course, Satan really had it out for you, so you got no tips that day.
Oh, yeah, and you couldn't forget the alien army invading New York and inviting an apocalypse!
Wait ... what?!
