22- Hospital Core

WILL POV-

The chestnut-haired boy blamed himself; feeling as though he made everything worse, guilt filled his every pore; seeping out. He just wanted to have a normal evening and instead caused an innocent woman to collapse from shock. Making an oath promising to make it right, helping Mrs Wheeler anyway he could no matter how small. He sat beside Mike in the passenger seat; the ride silent, following the ambulance to the hospital, too afraid to say anything Will physically comforted the tall boy, placing a comforting hand over his, repeating calming words. Mike knew she fainted by stress due to her high blood pressure; just like when he told her he was 'dating' Will. Taking a deep breath knowing everything would be alright.

The pair reach the hospital, walking past the front desking making themselves to the room that currently held Mrs Wheeler, stepping in going toward Karen laying down; still unconscious. Greeting the doctor standing by the foot of the bed

"She's fine! She just passed-out due to shock." The doctor chirped upon seeing them. Mike smiled bright knowing for definite she would be fine.

"But she'll have to stay for a few hours, just so we could monitor her." The doctor added swiftly leaving the room. Will scanned the hospital suite, never being in a hospital of this magnitude before, decorated as if this was a five-star hotel; chuckling to himself quiet, honestly just thankful Mrs Wheeler would be okay.

"I need to go get her hospital gown from her house" Mike pouted tired of driving for the day

"Don't the usually give you one?" Will tilted his head

"Yeah, but she hates those; she says it makes her itchy" The ravenette shrugged, Will only nodded not knowing if that was normal for rich people or not

"I'll be back in about 20 minutes and My Dad's gone to get Holly" Mike waved before leaving the room

"Will you be okay to watch over her?" He added

"Of course," The chestnut-haired boy smiled bright, knowing this is the least he could do. Walking around the room he cleaned up, placing things in an order that would only seem logical, setting Mrs Wheeler's belongings neatly onto one of the bedside tables.

He watched over Karen's sleeping body, looking pristine, like a real-life Barbie doll; he frowned blaming himself once again for putting her in that position even if mostly cause by her previous high blood pressure, and his father showing up.

Her eyes flutter open, Will jumped up

"What are you doing here? How dare you show up here?" She scanned the room expecting her family

"Hi! Mr Wheeler said he needs to pick up Holly and Mike has gone to get you some of your clothes from your house" Will explained

"YOU! You're the reason I collapsed" Karen spat, squinting her eyes

"But-" Will attempted to reason

"Go away! Or I might faint from seeing you again!" She said harshly, Will felt hurt but honestly understood where she was coming from; if you found out the boy introduced as your possible son-in-law was a fake, you'd be angry at them, especially if they were being paid to fool you. She rose her body not even wanting to look at the smaller boy in front of her, throwing the blankets off her body, placing both feet on the floor

"Let me help you up" Wil moved close, holding a handout to support the older lady, placing slippers next to her bed

"I'm not so sick I can't go by myself" She scowled slipping her feet into the slippers, pushing Will's hands away. Swatting him away like a fly buzzing around fruit, placing all her weight on her feet, she stood up almost stumbling back to the bed; lucky to be caught by the chestnut-haired boy.

"Are- are you alright?" He panicked, maintaining a firm grip on the old woman

"I don't need help" She repeated adamantly

"But that's why I'm here; to help" Will explained tilting his head

"I'm not an old woman Will. If that's even your real name!" Karen bluntly accused

"It is my real name" Will deadpanned

"Whatever! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go to the bathroom" Karen rolled her eyes shuffling up strutting to the bathroom

"Okay! I'll be here waiting for you!" Will yelled, twiddling with his thumbs, looking around the room, knowing Mrs Wheeler would be thirsty seeing no drinks nearby. Walking out the room down to one of the canteens, wanting to buy a drink for the older woman, seeing the selection, he thought hard.

"What would Mrs Wheeler like?" He muttered under his breath, placing a hand under his chin; scanning the options. He waited in the relatively short line for the drink of herbal tea, given in a fancy mug, more fancy than something he would have in his own home. He decided to also buy some cake for Mrs Wheeler; remembering once Mike had told him that his mother had low blood sugar. The food was expensive, but Will didn't mind as long as he was able to help.

The chestnut-haired boy carefully carried both items up to the room, hearing shuffling from outside the door, he took a deep breath; barely managing to turn the handle of the door

"I got you some herbal tea" Will chuckled struggling with the door, absent for about ten minutes to get the food, stepping into the large room seeing Mrs Wheeler laying on the bed, he smiled trying to remain positive

"What?" Mrs Wheeler sat up shocked, her favourite drink was herbal tea; smelling the aroma in the air filling her nose. She smiled but quickly dropped it, putting on a show in front of Will still angry how both boys lied to her

"I also brought some cake! Mike said sometimes your blood sugar can get too low, and it causes you to feel faint" Will explained swiftly, stumbling over his words

"Mike shouldn't go blabbering about all my ailments" She huffed, crossing her arms

"Here you go" Will carefully set the mug into her hands, ensuring no droplets fell. Placing the cake on the table.

"Mhm" Karen nodded. The chestnut-haired boy sitting in the seat next to her; twiddling his thumbs not really knowing what to talk about. What can you really say to someone who just found out you've been lying to them each time you've met them? He sighed. The room fell into an awkward silence.

"It's good!" Karen smiled taking a sip smiling unknowingly

"I'm glad you like it Ma'am!" Will sat up straight; glad that Mrs Wheeler enjoyed the drink he chose. Karen shuffled reaching over to the cake. Will however grabbed the cake and a paper towel for the woman, allowing her to be comfortable on her stay

"Thank you" Karen whispered

"You know? This reminds me of when I was young" she spoke taking a sip of her tea

"What does?" Will furrowed his brows

"You" She pointed

"Me?" Will questioned

"Mhm! When I was little; I did this for Mr Wheeler's mum" She smiled bright reminiscing

"You did?" Will raised his eyebrows

"Yeah! She didn't really like me that much when we first started dating and so, once when she was sick, I took care of her" She continued

"Really?" Will's eyes lightened up; excitedly listening to her.

"Me and Mr Wheeler go way back; he seems like such a grumpy old man but he's actually a sweetheart. Some people say that's where Mike gets his personality from." Giggling, she hit her hand against her thigh, Will let out a few chuckles too.

"Will?" Her demeanour changed, suddenly becoming serious

"Hmm?" Will nodded, scared of the sudden personality shift of the older woman

"Why did you try to fool me by 'dating' my son?" She questioned the thought that had been on her mind since she found out.

"Well... I didn't mean to fool you. In all honesty it was only supposed to be a one and done I was never planning on meeting Mike again, but he asked me to pretend to date him.... But he offered me money... so I took it" He looked down avoiding eye contact

"And what are you planning on doing with the money?" Karen raised her eyebrows

"I wanted to pay off my dad's debt; My dad was never a good person; as you saw from the restaurant" Will chuckled

"That was your dad?" Karen's eyes widened.

"He has like a major gambling addiction, and he borrowed money from these really shady people" The chestnut-haired boy nodded

"Loan sharks?" She whispered

"They threaten to get violent, not just with him but to my mum too even though they've been divorced for like ten years. So, I thought I could help this way, but the amount Isn't even a drop in the bucket of what my dad owes" He confessed

"How much do you have left?" Her brows furrowed

"Like $300,000" He whispered

"H-how?" Karen placed a hand over her mouth visibly taken aback

"I told you... he was a gambler; not only did he owe the loan-sharks but the people he plays with too" He explained, running a hand through his chestnut hair

"You poor thing" Karen frowned quickly enveloping him into a hug

"It's fine! I'm glad I've got that off my chest I haven't told anyone that; not my closest friends... not even Mike" He smiled, wiping a stray tear off his face taking a sharp breath

"Thank you, Mrs Wheeler!" He chirped, pulling away.

"But I have one more question" Karen blurted

"What is it?" Will tilted his head

"Do you actually like Mike? Like romantically?" Karen spoke, her voice calm. Will pondered, did he like Mike? Sure, he thought Mike was wonderful in every possible way but with all of the secrets between the two, he couldn't really be himself around the ravenette. Unable to show who he really was no matter how much he wanted to, he thought he still liked Richie but recently didn't feel as attached to the boy; even sad that he had turned up to his work earlier instead of Mike.

He had begun seeing Mike differently, but all of the ravenette's mixed messages played with his head; knowing the answer true in his heart, feeling a deep connection since the second time they met. Looking down at his hands taking a deep breath, he opened his mouth.

MIKE POV-

"Do you actually like Mike? Like romantically?" Mike heard his mother speak, anticipating the answer, just wanting to know whether he had a chance with Will or not. Hiding outside the door. He heard everything; Will's debt, the money, his father. He shook his head, clutching the bag in his hand.

The chestnut-haired boy muttered something only quiet enough for Karen to hear. Seeing the smaller boy avoiding eye contact with his mother. Mike's heart broke, just wanting to know the answer but unable to hear anything from the other side

"What are you doing?" Holly chirped spooking up on him. He jumped, turning his attention to the little girl seeing her tilt her head, he smiled bright at her averting his gaze seeing his father run up behind her visibly out of breath with Nancy not too far behind.

"Oh, nothing!" Mike raised a hand, Mr Wheeler kneeled over breathing deep as Nancy held her bag close to her chest, seeming as if she was on the brink of tears.

"Is mommy in there?" Holly smiled, holding her brother's hand dragging him into the room,

"Hey Mum! We're here!" Mike chirped putting on a smile, walking over his eyes fastened on Will wearing a frown. Placing Holly atop the bed as Nancy ran over giving her mother a hug. Mr Wheeler walked in enveloping his whole family into a warming embrace just happy to see his wife was well.

Will on the other hand felt awkward, almost as if he was disrupting this family reunion; like an intruder to this family gathering. Awkwardly, he shuffled up from his seat standing up, all the attention drawn to him.

"I-I'm going to go. Its late and my mum wants me home" He lied, not wanting to disturb the family anymore; not even knowing if he was on good terms with Mrs Wheeler; lumbering out the room throwing a small wave before exiting. Mike kept his eyes on the boy, frowning. His mother noticed, looking between the two; her lips curling into a smile speaking

"Chase after him"

"W-what?" Mike's eyes widened

"I know that you like him, so go after him" Karen reprimanded calmly, softly grinning

"But what if he doesn't wan-" Mike contemplated

"Mike! You know him better than I do. So, stop him before it's too late" She cut off, placing a comforting hand on her son's shoulder. Determined, Mike jumped rushing out the room. He wondered the halls hastily looking for Will, passing by many doctors and nurses on his way scanning the area in all directions eventually taking a step outside seeing Will standing under the shade of the hospital canopy to protect himself from the pouring rain. Mike's eyes softened, slowing down his steps standing next to Will.

"Hi!" He chirped, causing the small boy to jump

"Ohh umm hi?" Will replied, waiting for the rain to die down

"I wanted to tell you something?" Mike nervously fiddled with his fingers

"I actually have something to tell you as well! C-can I go first?" Will mumbled, his palms sweaty

"Oh okay" Mike's eyes widened

"What is it?" His words stretched,

The chestnut-haired boy opened his mouth, but no words escaped his lips feeling his throat close. Thinking about what Karen had told him before, the thoughts lingered in his brain, he knew what he wanted. He wanted Mike but too scared to admit it; even after hearing Mike's love confession last week. Since then, his heart fluttered every time they met, even if the ravenette was being awful to him, he couldn't wait for the next time to see him.

He turned the Ravenette around to face him allowing them to stare eye to eye under the shade of the canopy hearing the rain trickle around them. Will mustered his courage, placing both hands on Mike's cheeks; his fingertips reaching his raven hair, he tiptoed; leaning in, inching closer and closer, their lips touch. Time slowed. Mike melted feeling the pale moonlight illuminate them.

Will was kissing him

Will was kissing HIM!!
