Thirty three (final)

One last day, before his life ended.

He had one last day to smile and laugh like everything was fine when it wasn't. Everything was shit.

He wasn't sure how Bert even though this through. After Frank was out if his life he wouldn't be any good for whatever his plan was. He already felt drained of life with the end so close he couldn't imagine how he would be afterwards.

He had gotten Mikey to take him to Frank's house at six A.M. and he went over to Pete's so that his father would think that they went somewhere together. It was perfect. He was cuddled up to Frank's side trying to keep himself awake by listening to his boyfriend's voice but that only seemed to lull him even more.

"Baby, are you even listening? This is important." Frank said wiggling Gerard's shoulder a little bit.

"What? You were talking about dogs, Frank thats not important." He chuckled tiredly.

"Are you trying to tell me that you don't care about the boxer-collie that my aunt had when I was twelve? That dog was fucking rad." Frank said.

"I'm sure it was." Gerard said leaning up to kiss Frank's neck. "I still want a cat."

"Really? I could get you one. It could live with me if your dad wont let you have it." Frank said.

"How do you know your dad will let you keep my kitty?" Gerard asked hopefully.

Frank furrowed his eyebrows not remembering that he hadn't told Gerard yet.

"Oh yeah, well I forgot to tell you something, something big." Frank said.

"How big?" Gerard asked excitedly.

"Fuck, like dinosaur big."

"There are small dinosaurs." Gerard said. "Like the microraptor, they were pretty small."

"Well T-Rex big then." Frank said and Gerard nodded in agreement.

"What is it, daddy?" He asked. His mind was filled with thoughts of toys and skirts as his heart beat picked up.

"Okay so please, baby, don't freak out okay? I'm doing this because I love you and only you." Frank said sternly.

"Okay."

Frank took a deep breath in before grinning at the beautiful boy infront of him. He was positive that this was the best decision.

"My dad is moving to Florida." He said. "I'm staying though, to be with you."

All that Gerard could think in that moment was "shit." He was sure he'd faint in a couple of seconds from the intensity of the situation. His heart literally aching in his chest as he thought of the future. Bert had singlehandedly ruined both of their lives without a care in the world. This was the first time that Gerard truly felt anger towards the man. No, it probably wouldn't last long but he couldn't help it.

Frank noticed his boyfriend going red and got closer to him. "You're alright, Gee, we're going to be fine. I've already got this cute little apartment not too far away and they allow pets so we can get you that kitty you want." Frank said desperately trying to get Gerard to stop making that face. "Gee?" He said, the voice crack made his voice seem even weaker.

Gerard remained silent with and unreadable expression.

"Gee, c'mon please," He pleaded.

He felt on the verge of a breakdown. He was only eighteen and already about to be living in a completely different state than his only parent, supporting himself for the first time ever all for a boy who wouldn't even look at him while he explained it all. He just continued to desperation sweeten the situation while Gerard kept his gaze at his lap and his lip between his teeth.

Suddenly he felt Frank's arms wrap around him tightly like he was afraid. He turned his head to see Frank's face buried in his shoulder. Still silent, he brought up a hand to his boyfriends hair and stoked gently. After a moment he could hear Frank's quiet sobs muffled by his shirt but he didn't even have it in him to react.

They both fell asleep after that, completely emotionally exhausted and unable to keep themselves conscious. Gerard was the first one to wake up to the sound of his phone vibrating on the counter next to them. He sleepily grabbed his phone being sure not to wake up Frank in the process.

"Hello?" He answered quietly.

"Gerard, something has happened." His father said over the line. He seemed calm so he probably thought that he was with Mikey.

"What is it?"

"Bert apparently assaulted a young woman that goes to the same school as you two." He said.

"He what? Who was it?" Gerard asked panicking.

He stood up carefully, moving Frank's head to a pillow instead of his lap.

"I believe her name was Kate ? Anyways I don't trust thus whole case. Bert seemed to become such a well-behaved boy after befriending you and I just couldn't see him putting his hands on anyone, a woman at that." His father ranted.

"Why'd they say he did it?" Gerard asked wandering around his boyfriends house. He only noticed now that a good bit of furniture and other things were gone. Nothing to important that Frank would use though.

"I don't know as of now, but he's in police custody as he speak."

Walking to the back of the house he wandered into Franks father's bedroom to find it empty, like the room had never been used. Gerard could barely hold back a gasp when he saw it

"I'm taking off work soon to bail him out if he's arrested." He said with a sigh, "He doesn't belong in there."

"That's nice of you." Gerard said.

"It's only right. Where's Mikey? I would like to speak to him."

Gerard gulped and trued to steady his breathing. He wasn't going to allow himself to get caught.

"He's at the store. . . with Pete." He added incase he wanted to speak to him instead. "Getting snacks."

"Ah, alright then. I'll see you soon yes?"

"Yes, sir." Gerard said thankful that it worked.

"Be good."

"Of course." Ge said before hanging up. "Fuck."

"Woah there watch it." Frank said tiredly from the couch.

"Good morning." Gerard teased with a smile.

"Oh shit is it?"

"No, it's around noon." He said looking down at his phone.

Gerard sighed before going to sit down with his boyfriend again. He cuddled up to his side and kissed his neck.

"I'm sorry, daddy."

"It's alright, baby." Frank said squeezing the boy. "Alot to take in huh?" He asked.

"Mmhm," Gerard answered back. "Is your dad's gone?"

"Yep, I need to start moving my shit today actually." Frank said looking around the living room. His father left him almost all of the house to save him from stressing over buying furniture now he just needed to move it into his apartment.

"I can help." Gerard suggested.

Frank fake gasped, "And wrinkle your skirt? Never."

Gerard smiled at him and crossed his arms. "I'm a big boy, I can help."

"I bet you could, love, but dolls like you shouldn't be moving furniture." Frank said rubbing Gerard's thigh

"Who's gonna help you then?" Gerard asked

"Probably Tyson and Nick. You can stay and watch us if you want." Frank said standing up.

"Okay."

"I'm gonna go call them so we can get started, stay here i'm probably going to have to pick them up." Frank said.

Gerard nodded and picked up his phone ti text Mikey.

Gee: if dad calls, you're at the store with Pete getting food.

He head the door shut so he knew that Frank had left. He felt like he needed to cry but all his tears were used up earlier so he just sat and stared at the blank tv screen. He was ruining Frank's life. He laid back on the chair and closed his eyes, hoping to get a bit more sleep before Frank came back. Just as he felt himself drifting off his phone began to ring.

"Ugh." He groaned reaching his hand back to grab it. "Hello?"

"Gee." Bert's voice came through, as rough as always.

"How- How are you-"

"I get one phone call you know."

"And you used it to call me?" Gerard asked.

"Yeah." Bert said almost shyly.

"Why did you hit Kate ? What happened?" Gerard asked.

"Does it matter?"

"Yes!"

"Okay, okay, I bumped into her earlier today and we started talking or whatever and she said some shit so I hit her. . ."

"Bert, just tell me the truth."

"She was talking shit about you, Gee! And I know she isn't too fond of you but it just made me upset to here her talk about you like that." He said.

"Well that was stupid of you."

"I did it because I love you." Bert muttered.

"You did it because you have anger issues."

"I know I just- I couldn't help it. Sorry."

"It's not me you should be apologizing to, that's on your record, Bert."

"I don't regret it."

"Okay."

Bert sighed looking at the clock above him. He had only thirty more seconds. "Your dad is bailing me out. I'll be out by tonight or early morning."

Gerard stayed quiet so he went on.

"You and Frank are done tomorrow, okay? No push-backs."

"Bert, I-"

"Gerard please I don't have that much time left just say okay."

"Fine."

"Thank you, Gee. I'll see you tomorrow okay."

"Yeah." Gerard said. "Bye, bye."

•••

No much longer after the phone call Gerard fell asleep how he had planned to do before, though it didn't last long thanks to Frank arriving with his friends.

"Hey Gee, this is Tyson," Frank said pointing to one boy who's brown hair came below his ears. The boy smiled at Gerard and waved at him like he was a small child. "And this is Nick." Nick had copper hair that was just as long, the two boys stood close enough to eachother to be holding hands.

Once the others were gone packing up a few things Frank came to kneel down near where Gerard was sitting criss cross on the couch.

"Okay, baby we're going to be making a few trips back and forth. I know you're sleepy, go to my room, i'll call you down when we're done." Frank said.

"Okay."

Frank kissed his forehead before going to help his friends in the kitchen.

•••

It took only two hours to move all of Franks stuff from one house to another, considering they had no breaks, though afterwards all three of the boys were sweaty, achy, and tired.

Sitting in the new apartment with a few things still needing to be unloaded Frank felt more accomplished that he had ever felt in his whole life. He had already found the person he was going to marry and was housing himself all by the age of eighteen. He smiled happily to himself and went to wake up Gerard.

"Gee, baby it's late let me drive you home." He said tapping Gerard's side.

"Ugh, no." He whined, dragging out the "O"
"Please, daddy."

"I'd keep you forever if I could, love." Frank said honestly and stroked the side he was just tapping.

"I wish we lived together, daddy." Gerard yawned.

"Soon, baby boy. You're gonna be all mine just me and you." Frank said leaning down to leave gentle kissed down Gerard's neck. "You want that?"

"So much." Gerard said.

His breath hitched when Frank started sucking right below his ear. When he didn't stop for a while Gerard knew that he was trying to make a hickey and it felt too good to push him off. Eventually Frank stopped and pulled back to look at the mark he made and then placed a kiss to the sore area.

"Mine." He growled into the smaller boys ear.

Gerard shivered, triggering a smirk from Frank who backed away from him.

"C'mon, time to go." He said.

Gerard scowled at him, knees still slightly weak.

•••

Gerard arrived before both Mikey and his father so he was in the clear. He kissed Frank extra hard, something he wouldn't usually do. He held on to his loves hair keeping him in place as their lips slid against each other, tongues dancing to an unheard tune. Frank was just as surprised by Gerard's actions as he was himself. When they pulled away, both breathing heavily they placed their foreheads together softly like a silent "I love you." Of course before he left Frank made sure to tell Gerard aloud that he loved him and that everything was going to be okay and soon. Gerard nodded and went for another desperate kiss but Frank held him back chucking and telling him that he'd get more than a kiss tomorrow if he behaved but Gerard knew better. There would be no tomorrow for them.

When Mikey arrived about one dozen hickies poorly covered by a popped collar did to. Gerard was going to ask his brother about the bruises that lines his neck but he was too busy sobbing about the next morning. He went upstairs and locked his bedroom door to make sure that Mikey couldn't walk in and see him this way.

"Gee?" Mikey called from the stairs, coming up. "Are you okay? I missed you."

Gerard couldn't help but let out a small sob at that. He loved his brother so much and he loved knowing that the feeling was mutual.

"I'm going to go shower, I-I wanna talk to you after okay?" Mikey said. His voice was uneven and scared.

Gerard felt bad for not answering after the heard the bathroom door shut.

•••

Gerard ended up crying himself asleep while Mikey was showering. Mikey's shower was abnormally long but Gerard didn't notice.
When Mikey did get out of the shower he quickly made his way to his brothers soon.

"Gee? Gerard I wanna talk." Mikey said at Gerard's  door. He went to go open it after receiving no answer but it was locked of course.
Instead he knocked, hard, hoping to get his brothers attention.

On the other side of the door Gerard had just waken up. He looked too his door and contemplated just letting Mikey knock. Nothing the thirteen year old could say could be that important. But the knocking and pleading went on and with a groan, Gerard silently unlocked his door. Mikey shot in the moment he heard the click. you had so much on his mind that it was almost impossible to get his words out. Gerard noticed his brothers uncomfortable stance and offered him a place on his bed.

"Gee I- I- I don't know what to do I- I think I need," He stuttered.

"Mikey calm down, whats wrong." Gerard asked. His voice was tired.

"I don't know if I can tell you. . . you might get mad at me and tell- tell dad."

"Mikey why would I ever try and get you in trouble?" Gerard asked softly.

"Okay, just don't hate me okay?" Mikey said nervously. His hands were back to shaking and he was sweating like he was hours before, on his back in Pete's bed.

"I could never." Gerard said truthful. Mikey was about to be the only one he had.

"Pete and I had sex today." Mikey said. He flinched at his own words expecting something to pop out and kill him right then.

"Mikey-" Gerard gasped. His mouth hung open. showing just how speechless he was and it terrified Mikey.

"I knew you'd be mad." Mikey whimpered. "Told you you'd hate me."

"No Mikey I don't hate you." Gerard cooed wrapping his arms around his brother "I love you."

"I love you too Gee. I- I just don't know what to do."

"Mikey this isn't okay. . . It's illegal you're putting Pete in danger." Gerard informed him.

"I know, but I love him and he told me he loves me too." Mikey said. "He meant it."

"Im sure he did Mikey, just-" Gerard said stroking his brother's hair.

"No don't try to talk me out of it, we're in love." Mikey protested.

Gee was astonished by how Mike was speaking right now, He was usually so mature right now he sound like the 13-year-old that he was.

"Calm down. i'm just trying to tell you how dangerous what you're doing is I don't want you to get hurt I love you, Mikey."

"I love you too, Gee." Mikey smiled seemingly muting out the part where Gerard had told him that what they were doing was dangerous.

"Just be safe okay?" Gerard said softly and stroked over Mikey's hands.

Mikey smirked and nodded, "You mean like condoms and shit, right? Because we used those." He said proudly.

"Oh," Gerard said, speechless at first. "Yes, that too."

Mikey smiled again, seemingly not able to stop after seeing that his brother wasn't mad at him. "Thank you, Gee. I love you so much."

"I love you too, Mikey." He said softly.

"Me and Pete are gonna be just like you and Frank." Mikey said, giggling at the thought.

"Mmh." Gerard hummed, though on the inside he prayed that Mikey's relationship never became like he and Frank's.

•••

Gerard's father arrived a few hours ago and went straight to bed, assuming that both of the Way brothers had fallen asleep. While that was true for Mikey, sleep was the last thing on Gerard's overworked mind.

His face was covered in dry tears but not one had shed in hours. He felt numb. Just how he wanted to be, nothing hurt and nothing felt good.

purgatory.

•••

Gerard was still awake when the sun arrived the next morning. Usually Gerard would smile at the gentle warmth the sun brought along, but today the sun stood for the end of all things and he just couldn't bring himself to appreciate it.

He knew that he had to get this done before the situation worsened but a part of him still wanted to procrastinate just to see what would happen. But he knew what would happen.

His goal for today was something he never thought he'd have to plan, breaking up with Frank.

The words didn't even seem right when together, "breaking up" and "Frank." But here he was, getting dressed to march right over to Frank's new apartment and tear them both to shreds.

He prepared himself without care, a simple light blue tee-shirt and a white pleated skirt. He grabbed his bookbag and slipped on his mary janes and was out the door.

He was surprised when he didn't get a text from Bert that morning, reminding him if the consequences he would endure if he didn't go through with this. He guessed that Bert knew by now that Gerard had truly given up hope.

He was there now, on Frank's brand new doorstep. The apartment was nice and a good size for about two people, maybe a single parent. Frank was probably somewhere inside making himself some cereal or planing to come over and see his boyfriend soon. The thoughts on Frank living his normal life right behind the door made Gerard whimper. This was it.

He knocked.

Almost immediately he heard foot steps coming towards the door. His breath hitched when the knob started to turn and his palms seemed to be pouring sweat.

When the door opened he couldn't bring himself to look Frank in the face.

"Gee," Frank said with a cheerful voice.

Gerard smiled back at him but Frank knew something was wrong before he could even open his mouth.

"Are you okay?" He asked, "Come on in."

Gerard obeyed, scurrying inside with his head down and tail between his legs if he had one. He felt ashamed just being in Frank's apartment.

"I missed you." Frank said once Gerard sat down. The apartment had most of the furniture from the old house, just rearranged to fit the new layout of the place.

Gerard nodded quickly at first, "I missed you too."

"So, do you want to watch a movie or something? Tyson brought over the original Halloween and left it so I guess it's mine now," Frank chuckled.

Gerard wanted so badly to say yes and pretend that he had nothing to do, but he did and he couldn't just ignore it.

"Actually, I came here to- I- We need to talk." He decided on the most cliché phrase he could think of, maybe Frank already knew what was coming based on that worried look on his face and Gerard wouldn't have to verbally put them both through this.

"Oh, okay." Frank said going to sit down next to his boyfriend.

Gerard sighed when he felt Franks weight add to the couch. Frank chuckled nervously and chewed on his lip, "Gee, you're making me nervous."

"Sorry." Gerard muttered.

"'S okay, what's wrong?"

"I- fuck." Gerard grunted like he was in pain and placed his face in his hands.

"Woah, babyboy, are you alright?" Frank cooed wrapping an arm around Gerard's middle and bringing him closer.

"No Frank, i'm not." Gerard replied. His voice was already wrecked.

Frank nearly flinched hearing his own name spat out of Gerard's mouth like that, like the word physically hurt to say. He was definitely on edge before but this was enough to just about make him panic.

"Gee, what's going on?" Frank asked unintentionally gripping the boys arms tighter.

"Frankie, we can't do this anymore." Gerard said. The words burned his throat like acid coming out, he felt empty afterwards, like the words were the last thing in him.

"Do what?" Frank asked in disbelief, though he already knew what was happening.

"Us, Frankie." Gerard sighed out.

Frank was surprisingly quiet, making Gerard even more uncomfortable. When Frank removed his arms from his waist he couldn't hold back the whimper in his throat.

"It's Bert, isn't it." Frank said, quick to find someone to blame.

"No, Frankie." Gerard whined.

"Yes it is, he's been trying to fuck everything up for us for-fucking-ever!"

"This was my decision, Frank. I know you don't believe it, but I can make my own decisions."

"Baby, I know you can he's just- he's manipulative." Frank said.

"I don't want to be with you anymore, Frank."
Gerard said plain and simple. He tried his hardest to hide away all his emotions as Frank studied his face and apparently it worked well enough because suddenly Frank's expression grew angry.

"I changed my whole life for you." Frank said sounding more hurt than anything.

"Frank, i'm sorry I just-"

"I made my dad go to Florida alone so that I could stay with you!" Frank yelled.

Gerard flinched, "Please don't yell at me."

"Fuck, Gee, you can't do this to us,"

"I don't want this anymore." Gerard lied.

"Gee I love you, I-I thought-"

"Frank I love you too, so much I just don't love you that way." Gerard said. The tears in his eyes were struggling to stay hidden now.

"Gee," Frank whimpered. Gerard only then realized how hurtful his words must have been.

"Frankie i'm sorry, I just-"

"No, I'm sorry." Frank interrupted, wiping his eyes with his sleeve roughly, obviously trying to save some of his pride. "I'm sorry that I became so dependent on someone who doesn't even have their own shit together. My mistake." He chuckled.

Gerard glared at him, confused. His moods switched faster than Gerard was used to. Obviously the words hurt but what would he expect from this?

"Frankie, please." Gerard begged trying to regain eye contact with his ex.

When they're eyes met Gerard wasn't even surprised at the tears in Frank's. It did, however, look almost wrong for Frank to be acting like this and and for Gerard to not even be able to comfort him.

"I'm sorry," Frank said followed by a sniffle, "That was uncalled for, I didn't mean it."

"Okay." Gerard replied quietly, deciding not to apologize himself. It would be alot easier if he pretended he had no regrets about this.

"So, you're- you're sure about this?" Frank asked, a small prt of him hoping that this was some sort of joke and that Gerard would jump into his arms with that contagious smile of his and tell him that he in-fact didn't want to ruin what they had. But of course, that didn't happen.

Gerard nodded while looking down at his feet to avoid eye contact with Frank.

"Fuck," Frank huffed out.

"Frankie, you'll find someone, someone better than me and you'll have that happily ever after that we've been planning out." Gerard said. Stupidity, he allowed his own words that were
meant to be comforting to Frank get him even more emotional.

Frank scrunched up his nose at Gerard's nose, "No, Gee, no. That was going to be our happily ever after. I can't have that without you, ever."

Gerard looked downward with his pained expression, failing to suppress a shameful whimpered. He prayed that somehow Frank's couch could swallow him up and dum him out somewhere on the other side of the globe, and just a few inches away Frank was thinking the exact same thing.

"I wish-" Gerard started, then changed his mind halfway through, "I hope that you can still tolerate being around me after this."

Frank chuckled at that, partly at himself, "I don't think that I couldn't tolerate not being around you."

"Me too." Gerard found himself speaking quicker than he could control and he immediately saw how Frank's eyes lit up. Hope.
"Just- Just not how we are now. I wanted to be friends Frank."

"Fine." Frank swallowed.

"I- I think I should go," Gerard murmured awkwardly.

Franks eyes went wide before he stood up quickly, "Yeah, okay."

He walked Gerard to the door just like he always would and opened the door for him to leave.

"I'll drive you." Frank stated, reaching for his keys.

"I'm alright." Gerard declined softly and placed his delicate hand over Frank's quick moving one. Just then, he noticed how sweaty Franks hands were and how violently he was shaking.

"Frankie, are you okay?"

"Y- Yeah i'm fine. I'm fucking great." He laughed sarcastically. "Sorry,"

"'S alright." Gerard nodded with his head down. "Text me later?"

"I guess." Frank lied. He was definitely going to text him.

"Bye." Gerard waved.

"Bye, Gee."
•••

Gerard went straight back home after that, and strangely enough, not one tear was shed.

Maybe the numbness hadn't faded yet, but Gerard just couldn't cry.

Dialing Bert's number was the hardest part. All he would have to do is tell him that he did go through with it but the idea of it made everything feel so sealed, no return.

He forced himself to do it anyways, clicking on Berts contact and waiting on him to pick up. Maybe he wouldn't answer, Gerard thought to himself. How lucky would that be?

"Gee," Bert answered in a sing-song voice.

"I did it." Gerard stated.

"You did it." Gerard repeated in disbelief. "Fuck, you did it."

Gerard cringed so hard that he thought he might explode. He didn't want to be congratulated for ruining the boy he loves' life. It made him sick to hear the joy behind Bert's words.

But there was one thing that continued to bug Gerard ever since he woke up, fucking with his head and adding to his worries.

"Bert?" He asked curiously.

"Yes, doll?" He replied, sickeningly sweet.

"What now?" Gerard asked.

"Now," Bert paused, Gerard could practically feel the sickening smirk on Bert's lips, "You're mine."
