Dear Journal, I know I said I was going to neglect this assignment. But last night was surprisingly fun, I thought it was going to be boring.
My expectations were subverted, and thankfully Lindsey and I didn't get caught by the police. Not only did I witness a couple of guys brawling out, I met someone.
A boy, his name is Jeremiah Fisher, and he was super nice. He has bright ocean blue eyes, light chestnut curly hair, and the prettiest smile I've ever seen. We talked for close to an hour.
Well, we played twenty questions and answered the most insane ones. I'm pretty sure he was flirting with me, it was like one of those teen rom coms. Where the main characters see each other across the room.
In our case, the beach, and you hear a pop song playing, and everyone else fades into the background. But to be realistic, I highly doubt Jeremiah Fisher would be interested in being friends with lil ol' me.
I personally think I'm not the least bit interesting enough to be friends with someone as infamous as him. Apparently he and his family are well known within the community.
I've heard people at school talking about them. But I never met him or his brother until the party last night, and he was so nice. I think I'd like to see him again, as a potential friend of course.
Matt finished writing his entry and went downstairs to the kitchen, seeing his Mom and Dad, Isla was flipping pancakes while Daniel was sipping on a mug of tea.
Matt popped a blueberry into his mouth, "Morning Mom, morning Dad."
Daniel glanced up, giving him a smile, "Morning bud."
Isla placed some newly made pancakes on a plate for her son, "Good morning sweetheart. How was the bonfire party last night?"
Matt took a swig of his cup of milk, "It was fun, I hung out with Lindsey. I met a guy too, he was cool."
Daniel hummed in interest, "Oh really? What's his name?"
"Jeremiah Fisher, Lindsey knows him cause of their mom's." Matt replied, coating his fluffy goodness in golden syrup.
Isla smiled, "Oh Susannah's boys, they're a sweet family. I've met her and the boys a couple times. Really nice and respectful."
"I guess I've been living under a rock. Cause I didn't meet him until last night." 'Curse my introverted self' Matt thought.
Daniel chuckled, "We suppose so, and speaking of Lindsey, I heard Ella talking about her entering the debutante ball. Is that true Matt?"
Matt nodded his head, "Reluctantly, yes, I offered to be her date. But I'll have to do some research on it."
Both adults' jaws were on the floor, did their son just say he volunteered? For the debutante of all things? "Matt! We need to shop for a suit!" His mother exclaimed.
Matt wore a puzzled expression, "I have to wear a suit?"
Isla sighed, "Yes, honey, you have to wear a suit."
"Isn't that.. y'know, expensive?" Matt cringed, he hated spending more than a maximum of ten dollars.
"We can rent one. Don't worry kiddo, we'll figure it out. And I can take you to find one when the time comes."
"But today we can get you a nice outfit to meet Lindsey for when you guys have to practice dancing." Matt noticed that his mother seemed excited about this.
"Okay, but nothing too crazy right?" Matt asked after eating a bite of pancakes.
Isla eased his worries, "All you need is a button down, some slacks, and dress shoes."
Daniel chimed in, "I can also help with that, I've got no plans for today."
Isla grinned, "Alright, you two finish your breakfast then we can head out." She began to walk away and up the stairs.
Daniel turned to his son, "I'll make sure she doesn't go overboard."
Matt shortly sighed in relief, "Thanks Dad."
Daniel sent him a wink, "No problem kiddo."

Belly was extremely nervous to walk into the country club, her mom reminded that if she didn't feel safe, or if something went wrong, to use their code word. 'Lemon Jelly Belly'.
She shook off her nerves and headed towards the building, but stopped, spotting the one and only Jeremiah. Belly almost forgot he worked as a lifeguard at the pool, she called out to him. "Hey. Jeremiah."
Jeremiah halted in his tracks, staring at Belly, who in his opinion looked amazing. "Oh, my god. Uh, Belly. Wow. I didn't even recognize you."
She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "Tell me the truth. Um, do I look like a fool?"
Jeremiah looked at her like she was crazy, "Uh, no, y.. you look good. You look good. Um, let me walk you over."
He held out his arm, she took it. The two began walking towards the club, they entered the building and walked up the stairs to the entrance of the dining hall.
"They have strawberry, raspberry, raspberry type cookies. Oh, they're to die for." Jeremiah said blissfully.
Belly nodded her head, "Okay."
Jeremiah laughed, finally getting her to the dining hall. "I.. I still never thought I'd see the day where you were wearing a fascinator."
A woman caught their attention, clearing her throat, whilst the other girls were staring. "Jeremiah."
Jeremiah flashed his famous smile, "Paige." He greeted.
Paige glanced at him up and down, "Where's your shirt?"
Jeremiah looked at the woman, taking her hand and placing a kiss upon it, "It's always a pleasure."
"Mm-hmm." Paige wasn't impressed in the slightest.
"This is Belly. I mean, uh, Isabel Conklin, the young woman my mom told you about, my future wife." The boy introduced.
Paige folded her hands together, "She's late."
"I.. I.. I'm so sorry." Belly chimed in.
Paige informed her, "You're at table two."
"Are those little Brie and fig jam sandwiches with the prosciutto?" Jeremiah asked, reaching for the little sandwiches.
"Don't you dare." Paige warned.
"Okay." Jeremiah agreed, but pulled a fast one, grabbing the finger food.
"Those are for the girls. Jeremiah, those are for the girls!" Paige exclaimed.
Jeremiah smirked, beginning to walk away, but whispered to Belly, giving her a wink. "Knock 'em dead."
With Jeremiah gone, Belly was alone, was it too late to text her mom 'Lemon Jelly Belly'? She made her way to table two. She sat down between Conrad's possible girlfriend, and another girl.
She got to talking with them, trying not to be awkward with them, Nicole turned to her, "Oh, Belly's only a sophomore. Right? I think that's what Conrad told me."
Belly confirmed, "Yeah, I.. I'll be a junior in the fall."
"So, is this your first summer here in Cousins?" One of the girls asked. She had raven hair, and a sage green dress.
Belly shook her head, "No, I've been coming here for my entire life."
"Yeah, she's, like, family friends with Conrad and Jeremiah." Nicole replied.
The girls continued talking, mainly about the boys. Belly felt a bit awkward, one of them was her brother, and the other two were... complicated.
"So Lindsey, are you gonna tell us about your mystery date?" Shayla asked, wriggling her brows, a smirk laying upon her face.
Belly looked up to see the girl who asked her about Cousin's, so that was Lindsey, the other rolled her eyes, "He's not a mystery. He's my best friend, his name is Matt."
Gigi teased, "Oooo is he something other than a best friend?"
Lindsey chuckled, "No, we've known each other since second grade. And I'm not up for dating at the moment."
Nicole nodded her head in understanding, "Okay, well, I'm excited to meet him. I'm sure he's cool."
Lindsey confirmed, "He's the best." Shayla whipped out a flask and began passing it around, but Lindsey declined it, Belly did the same.

Matt's hands were full of garments, with fancy brand names he couldn't pronounce, and prices he couldn't comprehend. He was thrusted into a changing room, trying on multiple outfits.
But his mom had confidence that the next outfit would be 'The One', Matt nodded along growing tired of trying on garments. He shot his dad a 'save me' look, and Daniel told Isla this was the last one.
She agreed, noticing her boy was hitting his limit, so Matt tried on the clothes and stepped out of the dressing room. Both Daniel and Isla paused, sharing a glance, this was definitely the perfect outfit.
Isla clapped her hands together, "Matt, I think this is the one! You look so handsome."
She looked toward her husband, "Yeah bud, you look great. What do you think?" Matt looked at himself in the mirror. He did have to admit he looked good.
He smiled softly, maybe this debutante thing wouldn't be too bad. The teen looked back at his parents and confirmed it was the right fit.
"Alright then, let's get this show on the road." The family bought the outfit and Matt was finally able to relax. He curled up with a book, and Sam at his side.
Then his phone rang, he looked at the caller I.D, it was Lindsey, he picked it up and answered it with their usual greeting. "Hey bestie."
"Hey bestie." Lindsey replied.
Matt questioned, "How did it go?"
"Fine, Nicole is my big sis. I'll explain that later. Oh there's a new girl, she seems nice. We didn't talk much though."
"Oh cool, I've got my outfit ready for when we practice and stuff. My mom almost buried me in trousers and dress shirts."
Lindsey chuckled, "Was your dad there to do damage control?"
"Yeah, he was, thank god." Matt said while petting Sam's head.
"Good, and I mean no offense to your mom."
That made Matt laugh, but she continued, "You won't believe what Gigi teased me about."
Although having no clue who Gigi was. He pressed on, while wearing a confused expression, "What?" He asked.
"She thought I had a crush on you. And dude, I almost died but remembered there were a bunch of people around."
Matt shook his head fondly, "That happens too often. At this point we just need sweatshirts that say 'He's My Bestie' and 'She's My Bestie'."
Lindsey hummed, "I know a guy who could do that."
Sam began poking at Matt, "Sweet, also I gotta go. Sam is pestering me about taking him outside."
"Okay, I'll see you later right?"
Matt confirmed, "Yup, see you later." The two ended their call and Matt tended to Sam. Then he went to bed himself, it'd been a long shopping-filled day.
