Y/n's POV

The hellish command room seemed to be the center of the planet.

Every tunnel I went through only opened up to another, and another, and another, and so on. It wasn't practical, either, that the bombing on the outside brought such chaos in here. I could barely run with the walls crumbling apart, odd furniture falling my way. A full-on piece of ceiling almost fell on top of me, thanks to the Force that I could levitate it away.

The halls were cleaned, most of the rebels vanished suddenly, which I first thought was very suspicious, however, the recognizable sound of X-wings being deployed gave me all the explanation I needed. That meant that the TIE-fighters hadn't taken care off the back exits. I could only hope that we could destroy the Echo Base before they had the chance to evacuate the remaining people and that the cruisers would capture the ones who managed to escape.

My legs rushed me to the database, the holo map being my guide in this awful maze. It said that I was just meters away from my final destination when a group of enthusiastic rebels appeared on my path, on their way to carry some weapons to the transports. Even with my left arm failing me, I managed to spin my lightsaber like a fan and returned every single shot their machine gun threw at me. Maker, it was killing me.

I stopped in my tracks to catch some air. The freezing cold, the irritating discomfort in my arm, the asphyxiating pressure of the planet... everything was starting to get to me. My commlink biped; it was Taaray.

"General, we cleared our sector. Do you need backup?"

โ€”No, thank you, Captain. โ€”I inhaled deeply. โ€”Go outside and help out the 501st, I bet they need you.

"Noted, we're on our way, General".

Knowing that the front end of the base was being protected gave my aching mind a little rest. The noise was too intolerable, the dirt made me feel sticky and the burnt odor was just... nauseating. My stomach hurled, my body alerting me of the off feeling I've had for a while. This whole mission was, in all matters, overwhelming. And I've been on numerous missions. But this one? Yeah, definitely the worst. I don't know exactly when this whole plan went down the drain.

Wait.

I do know.

When fucking Anakin blew it up and derailed from everything that had been established from the beginning.

Was it something the asshole did often?

On that same line, since we separated, my mental game hasn't been... as strong. I hated how distracted I was, this was so unlike me: always so sure of my purpose and duty. But questions like: "How long has he been able to read my mind?" "Did he know everything I thought? How much did he know?" "Have I made a fool of myself?" dissociated me from my goal.

Once I caught my breath, I took out the device Qui-Gon gave me and glanced at it.

It's your job, Y/n. Don't screw it up.

With one last breath, I jogged to the red dot on the map, as fast as I could. It was almost over, I just needed to keep pushing. The area that surrounded the database was completely isolated, with aisles so quiet that it sent shivers down my spine. The command room was large, but narrow, with computers on every side of it. Screens and machines were flipped over, making me lose all hope of finding anything useful in this garbage. I lowered my head to pass through a fallen beam, wires sticking out from the walls dangerously. A sizzling sound rang my inner emergency sirens, making me turn around in full defense mode, but I found out it was just a loose steam tube. Nevertheless, when the noise increased, I realized that it sounded like a human voice. A close human voice.

โ€”Yes, sir, we're on our way. They're too busy fighting in the front to pay attention to the secret routes. โ€”I quietly strolled to the origin of the sound, my hands above my belt in case I needed a knife. The voice got clearer and I was able to fully observe the scene: it was a rebel talking to someone through a screen; the person on it was too far from me to be able to realize who it was.โ€” We may lose some men, but the majority of us will come out alive in the transports. I myself will pilot the ship that will escort the- โ€” Dank farrik. I stepped on some crushed glass, alerting the stranger in the room of my presence.

She was a young woman, with red, wavy hair flowing through her shoulders. She turned around, giving me a better look at her brown eyes, however, it was something else that caught my attention; the perfectly lined scar across her face, starting above her right eyebrow all the way to her neck, made her look incredibly fearless (Kylo's scar). It kinda reminded me of Anakin's, but hers was bigger. She was wearing a white and orange suit with the characteristic Rebel alliance symbol on her chest, her pilot helmet resting under her arm, right above her hip. She widened her eyes when she noticed who I was and quickly turned around to push buttons desperately.

โ€”Sir, I've been compromised! I will delete all of the data here! I'll see you at the meeting point! โ€”I ran towards her with the purpose of seeing the person she was chatting with.

โ€”"Emma! Wait-" โ€”But she hung up.

Emma moved quickly through the board, pressing buttons and typing furiously on a keyboard. She was deleting all of the files. The deleting bar was barely starting, but the pace was fast. I grabbed her by the shoulder and made her face me, backing her up until she hit the panel.

โ€”So, Emma, care to explain what the fuck you're doing? โ€”I raised my eyebrow and nodded to the board. I really hoped she would just give in and willingly surrender the data because I had no desire to keep fighting.

โ€”The Empire of Terror ends here! โ€”she said through gritted teeth. โ€”We will not bend to the Emperor anymore! โ€”She is feisty, I'll give her that.

โ€”Oh, yeah? We'll see about that. โ€”I scoffed and moved to push the stop button, but the bitch slapped me. Hard. Hard enough to turn my head. Okay, I was getting really tired of these motherfuckers. โ€” Oh, you shouldn't have done that. โ€”I breathed out, annoyed.

And I punched her in the nose with a right hook, only to hit her again with my elbow when my arm was retrieved. She backed off in pain, holding on the bleeding. I slightly twirled and kicked her on the chest, throwing her against a glass table. That must keep her down.

My focus came back to the task in front of me. I pushed the red button and stopped the deleting process. Now I just needed to redirect all of it to the data extractor. The device was pushed into a slot and the screen showed me it was ready to start. I checked all of the binders in the massive computer: Base locations, weapon inventory, provisions, confidential information. Jackpot. My fingers flew swiftly on the enormous board, running to get everything in.

โ€”Rogue Two, start evacuation of the last transports immediately, we don't have time to stick to the plan! โ€”Emma shouted from behind me to her communicator. How the kriff is she conscious? I lifted my good arm behind me to keep her down with the Force as I kept my eyes glued to the board, when another atrocious burn extended in my skin, just like in my arm, but this time in the back of my thigh. I screeched loudly, my face twisting in agony when I saw the severity of the wound. It was even worse than the one in my arm. Not this again.

โ€”"Emma, we're flying out! We left your ship and Kyrell's behind to protect the last transport. Hurry up!"

When I looked back, she was charging against me.

Anakin's POV

I swear I didn't just run away from Phoenix.

The timing was just optimal.

I was aware that I kinda jumped the gun when I called in the TIE-fighters. I knew that we could easily be trapped in here if we weren't agile enough, but I trusted Phoenix to get out. On the other hand, I couldn't hold off this Force intuition that kept shouting at me that someone I knew was in here. It guided me through the long halls, sending me totally off from where I was supposed to be. According to what we discussed, I should be on my way to the secret hangars to kill the last rebs. Instead, I was following my gut, completely lost.

In spite of my initial hesitation, the more I adventured myself inside the tunnels, the Force pulse inside me got stronger. I sensed a familiar Force signature, someone I knew perfectly, someone from our past. I sprinted faster, eager to catch this person. One lonely door was the only thing at the bottom of the last aisle, beyond that, it was a dead end. I ignited my blade, approaching slowly.

The hard metal stood impeccably undefeated, not a scratch on it. It almost looked new. That was motivation enough for me to crumple it up with the Force. My fist closed, making the metal fold like cheap aluminum, and I threw it over my head, to the other side of the aisle, like it was nothing. After the obstacle was removed, a living figure was revealed to me and my breath hitched in my throat. The room was a little warehouse, with a secret tunnel on the ceiling.

What the fuck?

What was he doing here?

So the rumors were true. A Jedi was still alive.

โ€”Skywalker, how disappointing to meet your acquaintance under these circumstances. Believe it or not, I've missed you, boy. โ€”The man said with a sad voice.

โ€”Don't patronize me, Ki. โ€”I growled and I squinted my eyes at the Cerean. โ€”I'm not a little boy anymore. I'm a man; a Sith Lord in fact. โ€”I stood in a defensive position, ready to engage.

โ€”Don't remind me. โ€”He sighed and looked down to the floor. โ€”You could have been so much more... such a promising young Jedi. โ€”He shook his head, with a defeated face. โ€”You were the strongest General of the Republic-

โ€”And now I'm the strongest General in the Imperial Army. โ€”I smirked sarcastically. โ€”And as such, I must now turn you in to the Emperor. So, are you going to make this easy or difficult? โ€”I raised my eyebrow.

โ€”You will try. โ€”He ignited his blue blade.

I launched forward, not giving him enough time to react. Our blades clashed continuously; the red and the blue mixing, splashing golden sparks whenever they encountered each other. Ki-Adi-Mundi's fighting style was defensive, demonstrating how loyal he was to the Jedi Code. There was no move I didn't already know, no attack I didn't see coming, no step he took I wouldn't notice. I pushed him closer and closer to the wall, my lightsaber inches away from his neck being weakly held back by his, and I debated myself if I should kill him.

No, Qui-Gon would like to have him alive.

โ€”"Anakin! Anakin, the rebels are leaving now. Are you in position?"โ€”Phoenix's voice came out my commlink. I could tell she was holding off yelling, giving me the feeling that she was hurt.

โ€”Yeah...well... I had to diverge from the plans. Sorry. โ€”I said, not really apologizing. Bringing Ki back to Coruscant was more important than killing some loser rebels.

โ€”"WHAT?! Anakin, this is your mission! What the fuck are you doing?" โ€”She was royally pissed.

โ€”Phoenix, I can't really speak right now. Can you handle it? โ€”Ki pushed me away and lifted his saber, only to swing it at me. I barely deflected, too focused on the conversation.

โ€”"No! That's beyond the point! It was your job! I- What the fuck?! Ah!" โ€”I heard some struggling and screaming from the other side of the call.

โ€”Phoenix? Phoenix? Are you there? โ€”Keeping Ki at bay and trying to speak with Phoenix was too much to handle. I kicked him in the face, hard enough for him to roll down and give me some time to talk to her. โ€”Listen! Can you intercept the ships?

Moments passed and I didn't receive an answer, just empty and stumping sounds.

โ€”"A-Anakin! I-I can't! I've been hit!" โ€” Wait, was she crying? I stared at the commlink, waiting for Phoenix to elaborate. โ€”"A-Anakin, I can't go! The rebels are escaping!"

And for fuck's sake, at that moment, Ki made a run for it, and like the worm he is, he wambled his way to the secret exit.

My mind was splitting in indecision, and I wasn't sure why, it seemed like the choice was obvious.

Go after Ki.

But that's not what my body was telling me to do.

Y/n's POV

"Seconds passed and I didn't receive an answer, just empty and stumping sounds." (This was right before this moment)

Emma took the chance and pushed me against the panel, cutting my forehead with a sharp lever. She tried to pause the process of the extraction, but I got up in a second, trying my best not to put all of my weight on the damaged leg, and twirled to confront her. My hands used her shoulders as support and I hit her in the face with my head, making her bite her own lip. Blood was dripping down her face, staining her uniform. While she remained unstabilized, I took it as an opportunity to smash her against a wall with the Force, but it was too weak. It felt like my injuries were draining my Force strength. The downloading was almost completed. C'mon, c'mon, c'mon. Done. I retrieved the data extractor and secured it inside one of my pockets.

I heard when she stood up from behind me. I turned around with knitted brows and crazy eyes. How the fuck does she keeps going? Tired of dealing with her, I grabbed a knife and threw it at her, directly to her heart, yet she dogged it at the last second, the knife stabbing her in the muscle where her shoulder and chest met. Good enough.

She gasped and tried to remove it. I reacted more efficiently and ran to kick it with my healthy leg, so it would cut deeper into her skin. Nonetheless, she took out a gun from her belt, a silver blaster, smaller than the normal ones. She pointed at me and pulled the trigger, hitting me in the abdomen. This time I couldn't hold it and I fell to the ground, holding the pierced area. Tears were threatening to come out. My sight became blurry due to the pain and when my fingers tried to clean the corner of my eyes, the blood from my forehead injury mixed with the tears, making my appearance look even scarier (The moments of silence were they fighting).

I couldn't breathe. I didn't even feel my torso.

The so-called Emma fled, not without looking at my defeated state and smiling victoriously.

โ€”A-Anakin! I-I can't! I've been hit! โ€” I whined in the commlink, giving my best not to expose myself to Anakin. I needed to appear strong. I understood that if he didn't come and help me, I just needed him to go to the rebels. The mission above all else. โ€”A-Anakin, I can't go! The rebels are escaping! โ€” I rushed to say, cursing myself for stuttering at the beginning. The pain was unbearable.

Anakin didn't say anything and, for a second, I thought we had lost communication, which wouldn't have been that weird, given that another bomb was just dropped near me. I held on to the floor and waited for the earthquake to pass. After it calmed down, my commlink biped, and Anakin's voice came through.

โ€”"Sorry, Phoenix. You're in charge now. The back entrances have been bombed, there's no way out but by the main entrance. I have to go. Good luck." โ€”and he hung up. I scoffed with indignation. What a fucking asshole. I lay there in confusion. How was I supposed to go and fight while crumbling down in pain? I didn't know if I was capable of standing up.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, relaxing. You got this, you always do. I called in the Force, trying to remember everything Obi-Wan once told me about force-healing, and applied it. The Force moved messily, I had never used light side tricks. My palm rested on my abdomen wound, and I concentrated to allow the Force to flow through my pores. It fell like a refreshing balm and it made the ache better, not healing it completely, but a significant improvement. I did the same with my leg, the effect being less effective this time and when I tried it on my arm, it was basically null.

I stood up and dusted myself off. Fine, I'll do it by myself. I was used to this, to be the lone wolf. I didn't need anyone before, I don't need anyone now. I've been in worse situations and pulled through; this would be no exception. I needed to honor my name, I needed to be Darth Phoenix.

I marched with my chin up down the aisles, slightly limping. There was no one left, for real this time. I knew the mess I was going to find the minute I crossed through the door to the outside. I inhaled with closed eyes once more and gripped my blade strongly, my knuckles borderline white. I exhaled all of the stress and doubts out, there was no room for that. I re-opened my eyes, this time the powerful yellow giving me the confidence I needed. Let's go, Y/n.

The first thing that hit me outside the base was the light. I was down there for less than two hours, however, it felt like days. All of the light exploded quickly in front of me. My eyes took a couple of seconds to readjust to the sun and the clear snow, blinking continuously to adapt myself to the new environment.

The clones were fighting off the very few rebels that were left behind the trench; they had a machine gun, giving the clones a run for their credits. But, actually, most of them were trying to knock down the exasperating X-wings. They were squirming around the air, escorting transports, their structure making them more agile than our TIE-Fighters. None of them have been able to exit the atmosphere, but the clones were getting tired.

I saw the AT-ATs in closer proximity than before, happy that they were just like I left them. I adore them, they looked like giant dogs. The AT-ATs were a massive help against the rebel's X-wings, blowing them in mid-air. In comparison, our TIE-Fighters were in short supply and the ones that still flew were already damaged: flames on the panels, smoke ascending from the back cage.

A sonic boom removed me from my thoughts. I looked up, confused at why the vibration of the ships felt so up close. It was because they were flying extremely low, to the point where the clones had to jump out of the way or they would've been hit. One of our units was chasing a sharp X-wing; the latter circled up, making a total turn until it was behind the TIE-fighter, shooting at it until it finally crashed to the ground.

There was pure chaos. Firery flames and smoke were everywhere, the bombs were still dropping behind me, deafening me. The clones fought to keep going, but the continuous crashing of the TIE-fighters complicated their vision. But what made me realize that we had to do something urgently was when two X-wings surrounded one of the AT-ATs with a harpoon and it fell, combusting on the spot.

I needed to take this matter into my own hands or else we wouldn't come out of here.

(Wanda Maximoff vibes ahead)

I observed the X-wings for a moment, analyzing their pattern and maneuvers. They were much faster than us, but their silhouettes were primarily infinite symbols, pretty basic piloting. I calculated the proximity of one of them and I pulled up the deceased AT-AT's head with the Force and tossed it against it, immediately smashing the ship. I held back the scream of distress in my throat, the effort of pulling my arm up killing me. But the plan worked, so I had to keep going.

I levitated two crushed TIE-fighters into the air and pushed them forward until they caught up with an X-wing and a transport and collided. My squeals were retained by subtly, high-pitched groans. I pressed my hand against my abdomen, getting used to the pain until it calmed down. I glimpsed for my troop and found both captains in the middle of the action.

โ€”Rex, Taaray, concentrate on the transports! No survivors should be left alive! โ€”They nodded and changed directions. โ€”I'll take care of the X-wings. โ€”I whispered, my eyes squinted in my quest to find the ship of the bitch that shot me.

I knocked down a few more ships while simultaneously dodging blaster shots; the AT-ATs dunked X-wings as well. No transport had managed to prevail over the trooper's attacks and their terrestrial defense was completely knocked out. It all comforted my inner anxiety that we were being beaten up. However, even when the back entrances were bombarded a while ago, ships and ships kept coming through large cracks and hidden tunnels.

We were not going to win unless we blew up the base.

I held off two X-wings in the air, just above the Echo Base. The machines quivered and trembled under my invisible control, the pilots would push the accelerator in an attempt of setting themselves free, but it was pointless. I saw their scary faces, not willing to back down, but unsure of how to proceed. Having my arms lifted that way put me in hell, nonetheless, I couldn't drop the X-wings just yet. Where was Anakin? As much as I would like to drop two tons of deadweight on him for leaving me all by myself in this nightmare of a mission, I couldn't do it. Qui-Gon would be raging.

โ€”Rex! Do you know where Lord Vader is? โ€”I rolled my eyes at the alias, not finding it hot anymore, just presumptuous. I hissed when my arm started to fail me, not able to maintain the ships like this anymore. At the same time, I felt the Force slipping away through my fingers, not strong enough to summon it as I should.

โ€”I'm going to try and reach him, General Phoenix! โ€”I nodded, trying not to look desperate. I can't, ah- this was too much. My legs trembled and I bit my lip, hanging on.

"Phoenix, can you hear me?"

โ€”You ass! Where the fuck have you been?! โ€”I shouted enraged at the commlink.

โ€”"I don't have time to explain. I'm leaving the base right now." โ€”I heard him struggling.

โ€”Where are you?! โ€”My eyes registered all of the surroundings of the base, but there was nothing visible due to the smoke.

โ€”"In about three seconds a transport will come out." โ€”He alerted me.

โ€”Uh-uh, what does that have to do with you- โ€”The asshole was on top of the transport, cutting a hole on the roof with his lightsaber.

โ€”"So now you know where I am, sweetheart." โ€” I could see the smirk on his lips through the communicator. โ€”"There are still some people there, blow it!"

โ€”Anakin, from the bottom of my soul, fuck off! โ€”I said through gritted teeth and cut the line. Along with the transport Anakin was in, two more ships exited; that must be her.

Once they were far enough, I focused on the task ahead. I lifted my arms a little bit more, making the ships move as well, and then, taking a deep breath with closed eyes, I allowed myself to fully feel the pain of my wounds. The rage and hurt of it fueled my power, connecting me to the dark side. I opened them and the yellow on my irises had become more intense. I pushed down my arms, opening my palms that were previously held in fists, and dropped the X-wings on top of the base; it disappeared in a magnificent explosion. I admired the beautiful sign of our victory for just a couple of seconds, relishing the feeling.

โ€”Okay, troopers, we're backing up to the cruisers! Let's go, let's go, let's go! โ€”I commanded.

โ€”General, what about General Skywalker? โ€”Rex asked once he saw no one external was around. I exhaled tiredly and rolled my eyes.

โ€”I'll go and help him. Rex, you and Taaray evacuate all of the troopers back up. Wait for us there. โ€”He gave me an affirmative signal and guided the troops.

โ€”Kix! Are you still here? โ€”I called in the trooper through the commlink.

โ€”"Affirmative, General." โ€”He answered.

โ€”I need a lift. โ€”I mumbled, cleaning the blood off my face. Maker, I need a shower.

โ€”"General, I cannot land, the ground will not allow me to take off again." โ€”He apologized.

โ€”It's fine, just fly really low, I'll get to you. โ€”I saw how the TIE-fighter turned around and planed low enough for me to jump.

I ran (as best as I could) next to it, waiting for the glass to fully open. I jumped inside, the ship never stopping, and gave Kix the order to follow the last rebel ships that remained: the one where Anakin was. We rushed to reach them and once we were close enough, I launched myself to the top of the transport. I stood on my knees for a second as I stabilized myself in the constant movement. I looked back at Kix and signaled him to try and shoot down the X-wings.

I saw the hole Anakin carved and I slid myself in it, falling inside the metal vehicle. I landed on top of a dead body. Actually, I was surrounded by them. Anakin will join them the minute I find him. I looked around for Anakin, the red lighting making it more difficult than it should, and I found him on the back of the transport, pressing someone against the wall, his lightsaber held threateningly against his neck. The figure didn't look human, so I got closer to examine it better.

โ€”I hope your little quest was worth it, you stupid a- What the fuck is that? โ€”I asked with a disgusted grimace on my face.

โ€”Phoenix, nice you could join. โ€”He turned both of them around and put the creature in front of me. โ€”I present to you, Master Jedi, Ki-Adi-Mundi. โ€”He smiled ironically and I widened my eyes. So it was true.

โ€”That was a Master Jedi? โ€”I knitted my brows. โ€”No wonder why the Order fall. โ€”I huffed. Ki launched forward trying to hit me, but Anakin had him held by his arms on his back.

โ€”We need to take him to the cruiser. โ€”Anakin spoke. The vehicle shook, almost making us fall.

โ€”If everyone is dead, who is piloting? โ€”I asked, scared of the answer. Anakin shrugged his shoulders.

โ€”No one, we would most likely die if we stayed here one more minute. โ€” I crossed my arms, annoyed.

โ€”Kix is outside, he can take him. Just... make him unconscious so he doesn't pull up a fight. โ€”Ki tried to squirm his way out, but Anakin beat him in the back of his head, and he dropped to the floor asleep.

โ€”We still need to take care of the X-wings. โ€”He remarked. The transport shook again and I grabbed the wall nearest to me.

โ€”Then let's get moving. โ€” I opened the transport doors, the air shaking it horribly. I called in Kix and made him fly near us. Anakin used the Force to place the Jedi on the copilot seat, Kix taking off once the little shit was secured. While he did that, the other X-wing got behind us and started to shoot at us and I recognized the pilot.

Emma.

I squinted my eyes in hate and Anakin noticed.

โ€”What? โ€”He looked back at where I was watching. โ€”Who is she? โ€”He returned his gaze to me and quickly put two and two together. โ€”Did she do that to you? โ€”He pointed at my new wounds and I just nodded.

โ€”Yes, I'll go get her- โ€”I tried to stand up, but my leg flaked, making me almost fall.

โ€”No. Stay here. I'll handle it. You take down the other one. โ€”He pointed at me threateningly with his index finger. I couldn't fight back because he had already jumped to the top of her X-wing.

I stood on the transport and I focused on the X-wing ahead. I called in the Force. I felt powerful enough to try and stop it; I put my hands in front of me and closed them down into fists, feeling like I was grabbing the ship itself. Once I was strong and sure enough, so I separated my hands in a horizontal movement, tearing apart the mechanical machine. The front and back end separated and the pilot fell off to the void, screaming scared.

The transport started to decline, therefore, my only option was to jump to the remaining X-wing. Because of my lack of strength in my leg, I couldn't reach an altitude high enough to land on the top of the X-wing, so I gripped strongly a bar on the side of it, trying hard not to fall. I swung my legs back and forth, creating momentum to push myself up.

Anakin looked down at me and offered me a hand, which I gladly took, after casting myself up. I was able to stand in the front of the ship and Anakin made sure that my body was not falling off. I observed Emma and saw that she was taking out the silver blaster.

โ€”Anakin, watch out! โ€”I yelled. He turned to meet her and before she could pull the trigger, Anakin ripped the blaster from her hand with the Force and slapped her with it. Her shot of retrieving the blaster failed when Anakin wrapped her hand around her throat and choked her down.

โ€”Oh, so no one else can choke me, but you can choke other people? โ€”I mocked ironically from behind him.

He chuckled at the comment and I crawled to him, enjoying the view of the pilot losing her air. Emma moved her arms in front of her, trying to punch us, something she didn't achieve, however, she did kick the blaster off Anakin's hand and it got lost once it fell down the ship.

โ€”Look, you bitch, I'm getting really annoyed by you. I won't kill you right now because I need to know something before. โ€”Both me and Emma furrowed our brows, expectantly.

Her face was borderline purple as Anakin tightened his grip and she sucked tiny amounts of air through her teeth. Emma dug her nails into his hand, trying to rip it from her. Anakin cut their distance a little shorter, his face inches away from hers, and asked:

โ€”Why do they call her the Shadow?
