1.7 | The Next Plan

Imogen followed behind Henley towards the apartment room where the five magicians had first met, the older woman was beyond excited to show the younger woman the apartment. Henley opened the door and smiled back at Imogen who smiled fondly at the sight of the apartment that the boys had fixed up the place for all of them. "Holy shit!" Imogen spoke as she looked around, Merritt sat on the couch with his book in one hand and a beer in the other and he laughed hearing the words leave her lips. "Like it?" Jack asked from where he stood leaning against the wall, Daniel sitting on a chair at a desk a few steps away from the blond.
"This is what you guys have been disappearing off to do?" Imogen asked them, they all nodded and Imogen grinned at that, "It's amazing but I thought this place was for meetings and planning." Henley shrugged as she closed the door behind them, "And sometimes we work till late so why not make the place more comfortable for us." Imogen accepted the woman's words, she wouldn't deny how great it would be to have a proper home just for them. They all sat together and Merritt ordered pizza, they got comfortable while eating as they planned their next big show which included betraying their benefactor which was the plan from the beginning.
Once they had finished planning for the night, Imogen had yawned and blinked back the sleep that threatened to overcome her. The television was playing a random movie and soon enough, Imogen had fallen asleep on Henley's shoulder. Jack looked over at her and smiled fondly, he stood up and moved his arms under her legs and shoulders, pulling her into his arms causing her head to fall into the crook of his neck. Henley grinned at him with Merritt playfully narrowing his eyes like a scolding father, Daniel simply looked for a moment before turning back to the movie playing on the screen.

Jack slowly made his way through the apartment until he reached the room they had all assigned to Imogen; they had all agreed on it. He quietly pushed the door open before walking over to the bed, he laid her down on the bed, pulled the blankets from under her. Imogen rolled slightly from the movements but hummed happily once the blankets had been pulled over her. Jack brushed his fingers across the woman's cheek, he smiled fondly at her before turning to walk away when Imogen reached out and grabbed his wrist. "Stay with me?" Imogen asked quietly, Jack grinned and agreed instantly.
He removed his jacket and threw it to the side and while the idea of sleeping in jeans wasn't ideal, he wouldn't wish to make Imogen uncomfortable by him sleeping in his black shirt and boxers; so it was sleeping in jeans instead. The moment Jack got comfortable, Imogen rolled over to lay her head on his chest prompting him to wrap his arms around her and hold her close to him. Jack hoped that his racing heart wasn't too noticeable in Imogen's sleepy state but at the same time, he wasn't afraid to face the facts that was how he felt about the woman. In the short time they've known each other, Jack had found himself falling for her.
Jack Wilder was by no means a one girl guy and usually, he'd stick around for a short while before taking off and leaving for the next pretty woman that walked by; collecting their hearts like it was a challenge he had to win. But Imogen Torres was not one of those girls, she had caught his attention with her smile, her laugh and the way her eyes light up in passion as she talked about magic. He adored the curves of her body, the way she walked and the way she talked. He adored how much she cared for him and the others in such a short time, the family she now saw them as and fought to keep together was what Jack adored most.
And as she snuggled into his warmth letting out a quiet adorable sigh, Jack knew right there and then that this little spitfire woman was perfect for him. He didn't care how long it took or how hard he had to work for her affections, he'd give her the damn world if he could to make it happen; she was the one for him. Imogen felt the same way about Jack, she felt some fear over how quickly she seemed to have fallen for Jack but another part of her was excited for the challenges and the results. She adored Jack's teasing grins, mischievous smirks and his toothy smiles. She adored his love of magic and his skill in pickpocketing. And most of all, she adored the way he too found a family in their strange group of magicians.

The next chapter of their story involved a certain man that had wronged many, many people and Imogen had been one of them when she was younger; her mother had been a victim of this man and he hadn't even put those pieces together. And of course, they knew that Thaddeus Bradley would be watching and recording which Imogen assured she had a plan for that considering he was her grandfather. But in order for their plan to work successfully, they needed a few little details from the man himself. Which is what lead to this very moment when they were running late to Arthur Tressler's private jet that was taking them to their next show.
"What took you so long?" Arthur asked them, his brows raised as they piled into the jet. "Sorry, Artie, got held up," Jack replied to him as they settled into their seats. "Did you attract any attention?" Arthur questioned, they knew the man was concerned about his reputation as their sponsor. "Just about everyone in the casino," Merritt replied with his usual smirk, "What do you think, Gen?" Imogen smiled as she sat with Jack, leaning into him once his arm wrapped around her waist. "A fair amount of people," Imogen added making Arthur glare, "Relax, Artie, it's all good." He scoffed at her words of attempted reassurance.
"That's what happens when you steal 3.5 million from a bank," Arthur scolded making Imogen grin wide. "And it was done spectacularly, wouldn't you agree?" Imogen asked before she looked up at Jack who looked down at her and kissed her. From New York to New Orleans, the group were prepping for their next show and Imogen was looking over parts of their plan with a slight frown. "What's wrong?" Jack asked as he placed his fingers under her chin to look up at him. "The next part... I'm worried..." Imogen trailed off knowing he knew what she was worried about.
"It'll be okay. I'll be okay, you'll be okay. We've all got this," Jack assured her, he cupped her face in his hands, "And when it's done. You and I can focus on us." Imogen smirked at that, "And what is us, Jack?" He smirked back at her as he leaned closer, "You're my girl, Imogen." She smiled at those words before kissing him, they knew things would be tricky in the next step of the plan but they both had something to look forward too. "There are others on this jet too, you know!" Merritt called out in the middle of his conversation with Henley about her affections towards Daniel.
"So enjoy the show," Imogen called back as she pulled away, "And let me kiss my boyfriend in peace." Jack chuckled at her teasing words before pulling her onto his lap and deepening the kiss just to annoy Merritt, Imogen happily accepting it. "We get it! We're all single and lonely except for you two," Henley added as Imogen pulled away from Jack and rested her head against Jack's shoulder. "Well, you've got two options, Hen," Imogen teased making the ginger hum with a confused look. "Mer has offered and Daniel is an option," Imogen elaborated making Henley shake her head while Merritt smirked.
"We've got a show to prepare for," Daniel snarked as he stood before everyone, his arms crossed. "Do we now?" Merritt questioned as he stood up with a smirk, removing his hat in the process. "No," Daniel said as he turned away from Merritt, "No, no, no. You're not doing that thing to me." Imogen smirked as she sat up straight, paying attention despite still being in Jack's lap. "What thing?" Merritt asked playing stupid, trying not to smile as Henley motioned for the couple for follow. "I was just looking at you--" Merritt is cut off by Daniel, "No, I've been watching you for a year. I know all of your little tricks."
"Is that what they are to you? Tricks?" Merritt asked him as they all settled in seats closer to Arthur who was watching the magicians. "Yes," Daniel replied with a scowl, "It's gimmicks. It's Barnum statement. It's reading the eyes, body language. I get it." Imogen scoffed with a look of disbelief, playing her role in their plan as she spoke, "Well, Danny boy, if it's so easy for you, why don't you do Henley?" Henley smirked and nodded, "Yeah Danny, why don't you do me?" Jack wrapped his arms around Imogen with a playful smirk watching them talk.
"No, you're too easy. Same with Gen," Daniel replied making both women scoff. "What about me, huh?" Jack offered but another voice interrupted the magicians, "No, do me." They all turned their heads to Arthur who had been watching them with an amused expression on his face. "Yeah," Imogen spoke with a challenging smirk, "Do Artie." Arthur chuckled at her expression while Daniel swallowed nervously before sitting across from Arthur, the others surrounding the two. "Okay," Daniel anxiously agrees, he looked at Arthur closely who smirked. "But I warn you, I can be difficult to read when I want to be," Arthur warned Daniel.
"Just stay with me, okay?" Daniel encouraged the older man, he nodded his head with a poker face. "So, Art, you were a tough kid," Daniel began with punching gestures, "A real rapscallion. You had a dog, a real tough dog. A brutish breed. A real--" Daniel cut himself off as he thought deeply for a moment, "I want to say, Ben the Bulldog?" Imogen shared a look with Henley before focusing back on the conversation. "Actually, I was a prissy little tot. I had a fluffy white cat called Snuffles," Arthur corrected while the others laughed at Daniel's defeated expression.
"Let me try," Jack spoke up challenging Daniel's attempt, "I can do way better than that." Daniel groaned and shook his head, "Come on. Give me one more time!" The others groaned in annoyance but let him have his second attempt. "Family," Daniel spoke, "Let's do family." Arthur bowed his head slightly, his own challenge. "You had an uncle on your mother's side. He had a real, kind of... masculine name," Daniel began, his face contorted into an expression of deep thought, "A real, kind of, salt-of-the-earth name. You know? A real stick-it-to-you kind of name. Like some kind of... Paul... Thompson."
The two stared at one another before Daniel scoffed in annoyance, "You know what, I got nothing." Imogen laughed and high-fived Merritt who smirked proudly. "Nearly though," Arthur told him causing Daniel to perk up in surprise. "Was I?" Daniel asked while the others looked in disbelief and surprise too. "My uncle's name was Cushman Ermitage," Arthur informed them, Imogen scoffed a laugh at the extremely posh life Arthur clearly lived. "Really? Snuffles and Cushman Ermitage, that was your childhood?" Daniel asked him in disbelief. "I really hope tonight's show will be better than this," Arthur stated.
The magicians dispersed back to their former seats, Jack and Imogen sitting together on the back couch with their arms settled around each other. "Just the way we planned it," Imogen whispered to Jack who chuckled, he kissed the side of her head before they sat in comfortable silence. Their plan was coming together perfectly, the show would be nothing compared to the challenge after it. As she remembered their plan, she tightened her arms around Jack and sent a prayer to any Gods that may be listening that it all went their way successfully. Jack knew she was worried, so he did his best to ease his girl, hoping they'd all be okay.
