ELEVEN
Ace, Charlie and Kat were in the Blue Point Diner. Ace and Billy were playing pool as the girl sat on a wooden stool at a table beside the two boys. She was wearing a slight off-the-shoulder white shirt tucked into a pair of black high-waisted jeans that rolled up at the ankles with a pair of black flats. Her fair brown hair was tied up in a high ponytail and had little makeup on.
She was sipping on her beverage when Billy suddenly said. "Ace I gotta tell you something but you gotta swear on your mother's good name that you won't tell anybody.
"You got it, pal," Ace muttered as he bent over the table to take a shot. He was wearing a tight black t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his shoulders matched with black jeans.
"Me and Billy. We - umm - a few days ago. Well, we found the missing kid's body." Charlie muttered as he stood up straight. Ace almost dropped his cue and Kat chocked on her drink.
"Really? That's heavy, man. I won't tell nobody," Ace breathed with a slight laugh.
----
By noon, Ace and Eyeball had gathered the boys, Samantha and Kat in Eyeball's yard. That morning, Charlie had left the diner before us and went home. Ace had grabbed Kat's small hand and drove us to Eyeball's house to tell him and the others what Charlie blabbered out to us, finding out that Billy had done the same as his friend and told Eye the same story while fishing.
"Listen, Ace. Maybe me and Charlie shouldn't go," Billy hesitantly spoke.
"Yeah, maybe you can go without us,"
"You guys are acting like my grandmother having a conniption fit. I don't see your problem! We go up with a whole lot of fishing gear and if a cop asks what we're doing there, we're just here to take a couple of steelhead out of the river and look what we found!" Ace explained thoroughly.
"Yeah, come on, man, we're gonna be famous! We're gonna be on every radio-TV-show in the country!" Vince gushed with excitement.
"Come on, you surely can't think this is right, can you Kat? Sam?" Charlie asked us.
Sammy looked over at Kat for an answer. "I'm doing this out of respect for the kid. I think it's better us finding him and turning his body in than having a hunter find him with his dick out like Vince said yesterday," Kat suddenly spoke, laughter erupted from beside her thanks to Vince.
"I still don't think we should go," Charlie continued complaining.
"Okay, okay, you've stated your opinion and now I'm gonna state mine. Get in the fucking car. Now!" Ace shouted. "Come on Kat," He continued as he hopped into the driver's seat of his car and turned the engine on, making the car roar to life.
Kat walked around the car and jumped in the passenger seat. Ace put his arm up for her to go under and he lazily slung his arm over her shoulders. In his hand that was closest to Kat's freckled face was a half drunken beer bottle. She clasped it and gently takes it out of his grasp. Putting the bottle's rim up to her lips, she tilted her head back and allowed the liquid to run down her throat. After taking two big gulps of Ace's beer, she places it back in his hand with a small smirk.
Ace shook his head with a laugh and drove off once Billy and Charlie were settled in the back.
----
Halfway through the journey, Yakety Yak by the Coasters blared out of the radio as Ace stirred his car so he was beside Vince's and not behind.
"No way, Ace! Not this time!" Vince shouted from across the road.
"Go for it, Vince!" Ace shouted back with a sly smirk.
"What are you doing?" Kat asked Ace quietly.
"You'll see, darling," Ace looked down at her and winked. Ace and Vince simultaneously sped up, attempting to overtake one another. She saw a brown truck heading down the road, heading towards them.
"Ace..." she trailed off, hoping he would back down from the game he was playing.
"I got him! I got him!" she heard Vince shouting. Her head shot around to the blue Studebaker with a pleading look towards Sammy who was sat beside Eye in the passenger seats.
"Fall back Ace. Come on, don't fuck around," Billy said with a nervous laugh from the back seat. The boys started swearing and pleaded for Ace to stop as they realised he wasn't going to do so.
"Ace. Please," The brunette girl whispered as she clung to his Hawaiian shirt. Her hazel eyes clenched shut. Ace rubbed her back soothingly but didn't cease his pace towards the brown truck. Kat heard the screams from the back seat get louder as the horns from the tuck get closer. She peeled her eyes open to see the truck swerve off of the road and into the ditch. Ace sped up even more and veered in front of Vince's car.
"Shit, man! Shit!" she heard Vince complain as Eye laughed at his friend.
Kat looked over at Ace with an astonished expression plastered over her face. "How'd you know the truck would swerve?"
"I didn't. Pure luck, I guess." Ace grinned.
"What?! So you would've happily killed all of us for some game?!" she exclaimed in shock mixed with anger.
"Oh, come on, I won, didn't I? And you're all in one piece. Everything's fine," Ace convinced her as he rubbed his hand up her arm once again.
"I hate you," she laughed and lent further into his embrace.
"Hate you too," he jokes.
