ISABEL JULES VICTORIA VERSTAPPEN-LECLERC ( born 13 june 1999 ) is a monegasque racing driver currently competing in formula one for mercedes amg-petronas f1 team.

leclerc made her formula one debut in 2019 for lamborghini. she worked to build the team up to its former glory in the four years she spent with the team before making the move to aston martin aramco cognizant following the lamborghini controversy. ranking tenth out of twenty-two drivers during her rookie year, leclerc was quickly being seen as a future championship contender. she now has many records to her name, such as holding the fastest lap times ever recorded at three circuits and becoming the first monegasque world champion.

she finished as runner-up to max verstappen-leclerc in the 2021 world drivers' championship with their title-fight coming to an end after an incident at the abu dhabi grand prix. in 2023, leclerc won the world championship title, narrowly stealing it from verstappen by just a few points.

she launched her race team LECCARDO-MSRTI RACING in 2024 alongside co-owner daniel ricciardo. their drivers are ollie bearman and liam lawson, both of which had a fantastic run for their first full season where they quickly became a dominant midfield car, averaging points in almost every race.

isabel grew up as the second youngest child between younger brother arthur and older brothers charles and lorenzo. throughout her childhood, leclerc maintained a close relationship with jules bianchi, who taught her how to kart. she originally wanted to be an olympic gymnast and was set to go down that path until bianchi and her brothers changed her mind. she raced under prema racing for her formula 2 and formula 3 careers, where she holds multiple records. leclerc is trilingual, being fluent in french, italian and english, as well as a decent understanding of dutch.

during the 2024 summer break, leclerc and max verstappen-leclerc made their relationship more official by getting married in switzerland. they recently announced that they had gotten married properly at the start of the year and waited until the break to have the ceremony.

with leclerc being silent on social media since the end of the 2024 season, there has been speculation that she will not race for mercedes in the following season to instead take a break with verstappen or to raise a family. neither of these have been confirmed by the couple, who have instead remained at home in monaco without social media.

in 2018, leclerc was a reserve driver for scuderia ferrari, where she developed a friendship kimi raikkonen and sebastian vettel with them acting as mentors. this continued into her 2019 rookie season with lamborghini. to this day, leclerc is seen frequently with them and their families during the time off.

from 2019, lamborghini signed leclerc for a one-year deal at the team. after a surprisingly well rookie season, her contract was extended to 2023, and there have been mentions of her being signed longer due to her 2021 season finish, where she finished 2nd overall to max verstappen despite her significant loss of points in the abu dhabi grand prix.

the signing of american driver noah nichols in 2021 marked a significant change of attitude in lamborghini. leclerc has said on numerous occasions that her and nichols have a sibling relationship, but there had been visible tensions within the team as a whole on how alicia taylors, team principal of lamborghini, had handled him as a rookie. this included the clear favourtism of nichols over their first-driver leclerc. internal conflict in the team meant that leclerc ended her contract with them in 2022 after a disappointing season and one that favoured nichols over her.

as of the 2022 abu dhabi grand prix, it was announced that leclerc had signed a one-year contract with aston martin after lance stroll's biking accident. it has since been confirmed that stroll chose her to fill his seat.

the 2023 season mirrored the 2021 season, where verstappen and leclerc fought each other all year for the championship. in the final race in abu dhabi, leclerc managed to take the win and earn just enough points over him to win the world drivers' championship title. at the end of the 2024 season, leclerc finished 2nd in the standings, which toto wolff was incredibly happy with for her first year with the team.
