chapter three

FIRST DINNER ━━

DINNER WITH THE LARUSSO FAMILY COULD BE DESCRIBED IN ONE WORD, awkward. It was not that they didn't like the boy it was just that the boy was just the epitome of awkwardness. Samantha was a bit too old so it was a weird friendship and Anthony wasn't the most social person in the world. It started with the fact that Ethan would blush out of embarrassment for every small mistake he made, he had this habit of starting to stutter when he was nervous which he apparently was a lot.

Ethan had only ever had dinner with Erin or his mother, his friend circle was very small. This family of four was definitely not going to join the circle anytime soon. "Umh.. So Ethan, have any plans for the future already?" Daniel asked trying to make a conversation at the awkward dinner table. Ethan looked up from the homemade casserole, which was so very good if he could say.

He swallowed his food and shrugged, "Umh.. Well, I've been looking into making my own hobbies useful to my jobs so I was leading towards graphic game designer." Ethan explained with a gentle smile, Anthony looked up at him as he spoke.

Something about this boy was irritating, well he wasn't sure if it was irritation, and endearing at the same time. Ethan was too polite, it was like every mistake he made would get his entire brain to spiral into a panic. Anthony was confused as to how this boy would survive in Karate, he just prayed that Ethan would not become the next Eli. Sure it did make Eli, now Hawk, a lot stronger but his personality had drastically changed. Anthony was glad that Hawk now joined Miyago-do and left that nightmare of a club named Cobra Kai. It frustrated Anthony because for a stupid reason it bothered him so much.

Every small embarrassed cough would replay in his mind, he would stare at Ethan as if he was painted by the dead right in front of his eyes. He couldn't understand at all why Ethan his weird habits kept playing in his mind.

Daniel his eyes widened in surprise, that was more than he knew Anthony had thought for his future. "Wow! That's amazing." Daniel spoke in genuine shock, it was a great idea. "No- That's a great choice actually, your mom has told me about your paintings before," He explained. Ethan turned visibly red at that.

"Oh God- what did she tell you?" He asked embarrassed of the fact that his now sensei already knew of his ridiculous hobby. Daniel chuckled and shook his head, "Don't worry, it was all good things, He explained. Ethan nodded with his eyebrows furrowed, for a reason he did not find that believable at all.

Noticing the weird look Daniel reassured him again. "She told me how you used to express your emotions in your art when you were little, it was beautiful she said." Ethan felt his cheeks grow red purely out of embarrassment, he felt really ashamed that he had been outed for his weird hobbies at a fucking dinner table.

"It's- It's nothing much honestly, she only says that because she is my mom." He dismissed sheepishly. Sam was looking at him in surprise, not many guys at this age would spend their free time painting. Then again, most teenagers wouldn't almost die to dojo rivalry either.

"You know, I have some old art supplies upstairs somewhere.. We could paint sometime if you want." Sam offered kindly, Ethan his eyes widened and he felt a smile creep on his cheeks. Nobody ever cared to pay attention to his hobby and now someone even offered to do it together!

"Y-yeah! That- I'd like that actually." He responded with a more genuine smile. Out of the eyesight of Ethan his eyes you would see Amanda proudly nodding at Sam for making the boy feel less nervous.

"Oh great! You know I always wanted to be good but gave up because it never worked." Sam explained slightly whiny because it didn't work out. She had lots of expensive supplies that had ended up going to waste because everyone always seemed better. Ethan nodded in understatement.

"I guess most people do.. I just kind of paint whatever I see, it's kind of me being a perfectionist aswel." Ethan spoke knowing his mom often scolded him at night past his bedtime for trying to perfect his paintings. That happened a lot. That led to his art supplies being confiscated after twelve pm.

Sam nodded in acknowledgement, "That's interesting." She responded in awe, Anthony however seemed a bit bored from the conversation and looked over at his father.

"Dad, what did you do to owe Ethan his mother a favour?" He asked before taking another bite. Daniel felt his ears go red and coughed a bit, Amanda laughed in an amused tone. "That is not for you guys to know." The father responded causing the three kids to give him curious glances.

Daniel was definitely not going to admit to his children that he ever got so incredibly drunk at age twenty two that he accidentally stumbled into his long term friend their backyard and ended up falling asleep there. Amerie had found him there and had to clean up the puke that he was literally sleeping in before dragging her with all her strength inside. No, Daniel was never going to admit that. Amerie still made fun of him for that at this ripe day and age.

Daniel learnt that he should not go drinking alone.
