chapter five

KARATE TRAINING ━━

PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT ANTHONY LIKE SAM DID, so when the older sister saw the boy glance back at the door every second she knew he was hiding something. That something turned out to be Ethan Blake, the boy who had been training under their roof privately for ages at this point. It had been a couple of weeks and Daniel had decided that it was finally time for Ethan to train with the other students.

"Alright guys, so gather up." Daniel spoke as he stood in front of the many teenagers. "So, we have a new student, he will not be joining the Sekai Taikai, he is here merely to train karate like many others." He explained, Johnny sighed clearly not really enjoying this last minute change. Daniel and him almost got into another fight until Daniel reminded Johnny that most of their best students started out the exact same way.

You could see the reluctant glances shared with one another. The students hadn't had a newbie in ages, actually there had possibly been none in a year or so. Ethan walked out of the backdoor, avoiding gazes from everyone except Sam who gave him a sympathetic smile. This was his first time training somewhere else than the house of mr. LaRusso, this felt odd. Ethan wasn't stupid, he knew he would likely not fit in and he was stupid for ever letting his mom force him into karate in the first place. He looked meekly at the ground, thanking everyone from above that he wasn't called to the front like those high school movies.

"Dude he looks like you back in the beginning." Someone muttered to Hawk which earned him a smack across their head. Ethan stared at his feet for a while, letting the whispers do its thing and waiting for it to pass. He didn't like being the centre of attention, he never liked the eyes of his peers looking at his every movement.

Anthony stared at Ethan, probably a bit longer than the others did. It went unnoticed by almost everyone, almost. Sam narrowed her eyes as her brother his gaze seemed to linger far too long on someone he had met before.

Anthony couldn't explain it, it was weird definitely. Everywhere Ethan went his gaze would follow, it was like his eyes desired to watch him. He had thought it was some weird liking he took to Ethan because there weren't many others his age except for Kenny and Devon. He wouldn't say he wanted to be friends with Ethan perse, but he just liked admiring him sometimes. Often when Ethan was struggling in the back yard he couldn't help but watch from a distance, he found it cute how he would blow the hair of his forehead whenever he was annoyed.

It wasn't weird to find someone cute right?

"Alright, today we're expanding our endurance!" Johnny exclaimed loudly, "Laps till you drop, now!" He yelled. Daniel sighed, a bit amused but this wasn't his core strategy. Nonetheless it was a non harmful one so he could live. Ethan perked up at this a bit, this was probably the only exercise he could preform without landing with his nose in the mud. He was weak, he was fragile, he was also sure his bones could snap if the wind blew hard enough. Luckily he was good at one thing, endurance.

His legs probably had fifty times the strength his arms did, and seeing as he didn't have a lot of strength in his arm it was only a decent amount in his legs. Laps were probably and weirdly, one of his favourite exercises. It allowed him to think freely in his own mind whilst actually doing something productive for once, he liked being in his own thoughts.

So, Ethan ran, and ran, and ran. He kept running sometimes bypassing someone or letting someone pass him. In the end he somehow landed next to one of the better students if not best. Miguel Diaz, he had heard his name often coming from Sam her lips or even those of Anthony. He looked up at him, gently smiling to ease the awkward tension.

"You're really good for a starter, have you ever done different sports?" The older boy asked as they kept jogging. Ethan his eyes widened, not really having expected a conversation during this. The boy shook his head, "I've never done a single sport in my life." He explained with an awkward shrug. Miguel his eyes widened, at the end you could see some kids starting to give out, three or four kids already sat at the ground on the side waiting for the other students to finish. Johnny was calling them pussies whilst Daniel was scolding Johnny.

Miguel nodded, seemingly astonished by this. Ethan liked jogging, he often went for late night jogs just to get fresh air. It started out as walks but apparently he was too impatient at that, so instead it was simple jogging. That was probably the only reason he had decent or even good endurance. They continued jogging for a long while, others joining back in or going out before Ethan finally felt his legs start to give out.

"Okay, stop!" Johnny exclaimed, most students were definitely relieved to not have to do anymore laps. Most people hated laps, which was very understandable. "New kid lasted longer than half of you, you all step it up for the Sekai Taikai." He stated. Some eyes immediately went back to Ethan, who was awkwardly blushing at that statement. He hated it, every time someone even spoke about him he went red. It was embarrassing.

"Now, for the rest of training.." Daniel started.
