THAT WAS PERHAPS SOME OF THE WORST NEWS I'D RECIEVED. Bella and I haven't even had our little sleepover and now she's asking questions about the family? About how Edward survived that crash? What sort of logical explanation is there for something like this? It would be a lie!

She hates lies. She is curious and likes to be in on things. If I can't find a reasonable explanation for her within the next ten minutes, we are so screwed.

That doesn't even cover the fact that Edward may be in there with her. He can't keep his mouth shut! Edward is one of the worst liars out of the Cullens. It's only by luck that he hasn't accidentally spilled the secret one way or another. He already acts so weird around her.

"What am I supposed to do, Carlisle?" I asked, feeling my hands get clammy and cold. "What happened?"

"He says that he was saving her from the car," Carlisle began to explain with a grim expression, "Some kid nearly hit her. She would have been dead if Edward didn't interfere. She was between cars. It was necessary."

Of course it was. Edward going around being a hero. That's what I told him to do. He needed to protect Bella in order to make sure our family stayed intact, but whatever happened could have threatened our stability. Not that it was his fault. I'm keying that driver's car. No way his car isn't getting keyed. If it was totaled I'm keying his mom's car for raising an idiot.

I didn't say anything back to Carlisle. It was damage control time and we don't have much to go off of until I see the state of Bella's questions.

When I got to the room, Edward turned his head and smiled at me. I rushed over to Edward, pulling him into a hug, trying to seem as concerned as possible for his safety. He didn't have a scratch on him, go figure, but he kept on flexing his hand as if he were checking for any damage.

I looked over at the beds behind and when I saw Bella I immediately detached myself from Edward and came over to her, sitting down next to Bella and checking her head and her arms.

"Are you okay?" I asked, pulling her close and checking everywhere for any bruises or scratches. There wasn't any blood but there was a small bruise on her arm, probably from bracing herself on the car behind her. "I was so worried about the two of you. I just heard the crash and-"

I stopped myself for a second, gauging her reaction. She gave an awkward smile.

"That idiot should have been driving right," I insisted, looking at the bruise on her arm. "I'll key his car for you."

Bella laughed at that. "You don't have to do that for me. That's like... really illegal."

"After Charlie hears about this, I doubt he'll care about what happens to that boys car," I reasoned with a laugh of my own. "Thankfully you didn't get cut and nothing is broken. Just a bruise."

It could have been worse than that. Even vampires can get injured if a car is going fast enough. Emmett got hit by a car once and his arm got thrown off because he hit a tree. Then again, the tree also fell to the ground, but that's not great at all. Bella was just human, which was clearly why Edward had to step in and risk... everything.

She wasn't sharing any concerns with me yet. Maybe Edward being there was a deterrent. No way of her being honest with me about the crash. Bella usually opens up with the right amount of humor, guess I'll have to kick Edward out in order to get to the bottom of things.

Poor Edward, he's like a third wheel in his own mating bond.

"Edward," I looked over to him and gave him my look, "Your dad said you could go home. Emmett is waiting outside to pick you up."

It's so awkward to act like he's just Edward's dad.

It's kind of weird he's Edward's dad.

Edward gave me a semi-disgusted look. Shut up.

"Oh, are you going?" Bella asked, looking a bit hurt.

"No, I'm staying. He doesn't have a scratch on him, you have a bruise," I pointed down at her bruise and pouted. "Dr. Cullen still needs to see you."

Most of that was for show. Bella only needed Carlisle to check her out, then her father would likely pick her up. No doubt Charlie was already on his way to the clinic, worried sick when someone notified him of a car accident. Thankfully Edward would be gone by the time Charlie showed up, he probably doesn't like him.

Before anything got too awkward, Edward left, giving me and Bella a small wave as he left the open observation room.

"Uhm, Fennie," Bella began with her typical awkward look before she suddenly grabbed my hand, "Edward stopped that car with his bare hands."

I gave a half-hearted laugh. "I guess he's stronger than I thought. He did pull our new washing machine over a hill after Emmett ran out of gas, though, so I'm not too shocked."

That kind of thing happens a lot more than I'd like to admit.

"Yeah, but, he stopped a car?" Bella squeezed my hands. "Aren't you worried about that? Like, couldn't he hurt you? That isn't normal? A normal person can't stop a car with no injuries."

"Did the guy who crashed into you have his airbags go off?" I asked, figuring I could toy with the event just a bit.

"No, but-"

I cut her off with a laugh. "He probably stopped his car when he bumped into Edward. He may have some problems with his hand that we can't see. He doesn't like getting checked up on in front of people. Past things, makes him uncomfortable."

It was kind of bullshit, but Bella wasn't exactly ready to handle the reality of what had happened. If she's more worried about me then she hasn't gotten to know Edward enough yet. I don't like that he looks... weird and creepy to Bella. He's not once you get to know him, he just has a resting bitch face. He's loving and considerate and gives amazing gifts to everyone during the holidays. His complete emotional constipation is annoying but he makes up for it!

Nothing could truly explain what happened today, but as long as she doesn't start going around asking questions to people who may tell her things that shouldn't be told, we should be alright.

"He won't stop looking at me weirdly," Bella admitted to her. "Now this?"

The resting bitch face mixed with horrible bloodlust strikes again... yay.

"I'll talk to him," I promised, "If he's making you uncomfortable, I'll make it stop. He's sort of curious about people being around me that he doesn't know, but he will stop if it's getting weird. You're my friend, I don't want you feeling bad."

That seemed to assuage her enough for now. Hopefully she would still be up for a sleepover. Then we could watch movies and cuddle (totally normal for friends, right?) while laughing at how bad the movie is. How amazing. How very homoerotic friendship of us. I can't wait for her to have her 'oh wait I have feelings for her' moment when she goes home.

Too bad I don't have a way to watch it.

Now I'm just daydreaming.
