SOMETHING TUGGED AT MY INSIDES WHEN I HEARD THAT SOUND. I'd heard plenty of stupid high school students killing each other in crashes. Most of the time it was when they were drunk, in the dead of night, not in broad daylight right after classes ended for the day.
Where the fuck was Edward?
Despite my better judgements, I got out of the car. I heard people around me frantically calling 911, trying to make sure that whoever had been hurt could get medical attention. What was that feeling? Something was wrong, so wrong, and I had to get out to see for myself.
It had happened at the other end of the parking lot. There were few people who weren't getting out of their cars to see with me.
"Where the fuck is Edward?" Emmett asked as he got out of the car too. He put a hand on my shoulder as he reached my side. "We have to get out of here."
"Someone could be dead, Em," I mumbled, realizing that if people were calling the cops and the ambulances that someone had gotten hurt.
That fucking sucked.
"No blood," Rose said from inside the car. "Everyone is fine, they must have hit another car and not a person."
Not from the amount of screaming there was. Someone had to have been hit, or else why would people be freaking out. No blood? That made no sense.
Where the fuck is Edward?
"I'm going up there," I murmured.
The worst case scenario was that someone hit another persons car and that had trapped a person between a few cars. No blood, but a really freaky situation. With the way some of these kids park, it wouldn't shock me. Maybe Edward was trying to be a hero. That also wouldn't shock me. Still, we have to go get Esme. She'll understand why we're late, but we have to pick her up soon. I don't want her to go from angry to worried.
Thankfully most people had begun to move to the sides by the time I got up there. I couldn't see very well with the few tall teachers and students. The few voices I heard I didn't understand. Edward wasn't in these crowds.
"Edward?" I raised my voice a bit, hoping that he would hear me over the other mushed up human voices.
He didn't say anything from anywhere. God, if he took a hike after a damn car crash, I am going to kill him.
A teacher was someone who heard me, an older man. I was embarrassed when he turned around and gave me a look. I wasn't trying to get in the way, I just was. I didn't know where Edward was and I had to in order to get home. We weren't going to just... leave without him. That would be awful and Esme would chew everyone out if we did that to him.
This just sucks. I can't freaking see! And now there's an old teacher staring down at me like I'm a nuisance and I know I am but what else am I supposed to do? Stop looking at me like that, man! I am trying to find my damn boyfriend in peace so I can go pick up my girlfriend from her job so she doesn't have to deal with more creeps?
"Fenella you can stay back here," the old man said with a roll of his eyes. "Don't want you getting sick or something."
Wow.
Just wow.
"Is Edward up there?" I asked, trying to hold back how much that comment made me mad. Who the hell does this guy think he is to say something like that to a chronically ill student? "We're supposed to pick up his mom today."
"Considering he got hit by a car, he's going to the hospital," the old teacher said like it was just another day. "Go meet him at the hospital if you want. Bring his mom too. Just don't get near the scene."
What the fuck.
---
I WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE WORRIED WERE IT NOT FOR THE VERY OBVIOUS AND STRANGE FACT THAT MY BOYFRIEND IS AN IMMORTAL VAMPIRE.
He's never been hit by a car before, but he would do more damage to the car than the car could do damage to him. I hadn't gotten any more information than that. Clearly he would be taken to the hospital, that guy didn't need to be so blasé about it, and get checked up. The car ride to the hospital, which was really more of a clinic, was tense. Rose refused to speak and Emmett just shook his head and mumbled something about Alice should have warned them about this.
I was the one to text Esme to give her some updates. She decided she could walk to the clinic and take a different route in an attempt to stay away from the creep that had been bothering her for some time.
At least nobody had been hurt in the crash. I dearly hoped that no humans had seen Edward rushing over to figure out what was happening. I hope that nobody requests the camera footage. Then our cover would be blown and we would have to do some seriously illegal things in order to keep the secret.
"Just figure out what kind of damage control we have to do," Rose ordered as she looked down at her phone. "God this all fucking sucks."
I gave her a little nod before rushing off into the hospital, being immediately greeted by the nice lady who worked the front desk and who knew me very well already.
"Fennie, what are you doing here today? It's not a treatment day," she asked with a sweet smile. Annie had the best red hair and deep brown eyes.
"My boyfriend was brought in here only a few minutes ago," I tried to explain with the best fake concern I could muster up, "Edward Cullen?"
I know they're not supposed to let me into those rooms, Carlisle gave them those orders, but this was different. Surely Carlisle would figure out I'm here and just... let me through. Unless someone other than Edward was harmed and needed help. Obviously not the driver of the car, who was probably not paying attention. Nobody other than a few cars had actually started leaving the lot. No reason to hit someone.
Nobody had hit someone in that lot before. Hopefully Edward would be the only one hit for a long time.
Before Annie could say anything further, Carlisle came out into the lobby.
"Carlisle, Fennie was asking if she could go and see Edward, would that be alright?" Annie asked with her big brown eyes batting at him.
That happens a lot. I don't really care, though. It's not his fault that he's attractive.
"Come on in, Fenella," Carlisle quickly ushered me inside, giving me an awkward look that notified me that something was amiss.
"He's fine, I know, but-"
Carlisle cut me off as we reached his office, "It's worse than that."
Great, people saw him run. The shtick was up, we would somehow have to organize a move so the vampire government doesn't send us notices to come in and explain ourselves. I would have to speed up my process. How great, how swell.
Not swell, not great.
Carlisle closed the door behind him and sighed.
"Bella was the reason why Edward was in that crash. She saw everything. She's asking questions right now."
