He ran faster than any human being, perhaps faster than any animal in this world. It was beautiful in so many ways. I had to close my eyes to make sure nothing got in there and hurt me, but I heard the birds sing and the wind brush against the trees.
It took Edward about ten minutes before he finally stopped, leaving me nearly breathless. "We're here, Fenella."
Opening up my eyes, I saw the beautiful meadow he had brought me to. Trees surrounded the bright grass, the light almost hitting our faces. Everything was gorgeous, from the trees to the small flowers that littered the area. "It's gorgeous, Edward. I've never seen something like this. Mom never lets me go into the woods, but this... this is..."
"I'm glad you like it, Fenella," he says. "It's not too much, is it?"
"No, it's perfect." Edward smiled, holding me close as he placed me down on the ground. "Nobody's ever done something like this for me."
Edward chuckled as I twirled around, but rushed over as I almost fell down on the grass. "Please don't fall. You shouldn't get hurt while out here with me. Everyone would be so upset."
I nodded in understanding. It would look pretty bad if I got hurt on my first real date. Besides the pretty view, what did you have planned for us today?
"Glad you asked, Fenella." His arms wrapped around my waist. I giggled as he picked me up in his arms. "Since this is my favorite place, I wanted to share it with you. Nobody else has been up here with me. When I'm not trapped inside my room I'm out here, able to be free."
My face turned up into a smile as Edward sat me down in the middle of the meadow. All around me flowers bloomed. Vibrant colors shone even when not under direct sunlight. I turned a light pink when Edward pulled me into his chest on the floor, running one of his large hands through my bleached white hair. Twirling through my snowy locks, my mate pressed his lips against my head.
We stayed there for some time, simply enjoying each other's company. Edward and I didn't need to talk to connect with each other. Feelings pooled in my gut every time those slender fingers of his brushed against my skin, against the nape of my neck. His comforting touch pulled me in, made my cheeks flush red. Every bit of affection he gave me I soaked up within an instant, happy to be cared for in his arms.
A shift in the trees sent Edward into protection mode. "Stay close to me. Don't stray."
"What was that sound?" I whispered. His eyes darted to the noise. "Edwardโ"
"โShhh." I felt my heart start to speed up as Edward held me close to his chest. He looked around before his eyes fell on a large wolfโ likely three times the size of what you'd expect from a wolf in the area. How did that thing get so big? I like dogs but get it away from me!
The wolf growled as Edward wrapped his arms around me. My mate growled back, standing his ground. I'm not ready to die. I'm not ready to die. Not like this. Please not like this.
"You aren't going to die, sweetheart," Edward soothed, kissing my head lovingly. "The dog thinks I'm trying to eat you." He looked over at the wolf, which was getting ready to pounce on us. "I'm not hurting her, wolf. Fenella is my mate and would never be harmed. Our treaty is not being violated."
It's dark silver fur shimmered in the sun, which was now beaming down on us. Edward's skin glowed, holographic in a way. He looked like a disco ball. A very handsome disco ball. Two different coats, so similar yet not the same. My eyes switched between the wolf and my mate, who were staring at each other.
"I have not broken any treaties. I am allowed to take my mate here Paul, there is no law against that. I'm not looking for trouble, but you're scaring her," Edward continued to diffuse the tensions in the meadow. Wait, are the wolves here sentient? Is that why they're so huge? You know, I've learned about vampires this week and now I could be finding out about sentient wolves. This has to be the worst week of my life. What's next? Evil vampire overlords? I shouldn't have said that. Of course there are.
My heart pounded in my chest as I clung onto Edward like a lifeline. At that moment I didn't know if I was going to die or if this wolf would leave us alone. Hell, I didn't even know how I'd gotten myself into this situation. Mated to a group of vampires and now, on my first date ever, I'm being harassed by big wolves.
Another wolf came into view, although it's fur was a nice shade of coppery brown. Within an instant of looking at me, it turned into a shirtless man. The other wolf shifted his stance, locking his eyes on the russet-skinned man now on the ground, staring into my soul.
"No," Edward said suddenly, holding me close to his chest. "Absolutely not. No. Go away, wolves. You aren't having my mate anywhere near you."
My eyes studied the handsome wolf man. His brown eyes gazed into my own with longing. What's going on?
"Get away from my imprint," the wolf sneered at Edward. My vampire mate shook his head, picking me up. "Cullen, that is my imprint. Unless you want to be killed you'll listen to me and get the hell away from her."
"Pack it up, wolf boy," I blurted out, trying to drag Edward away from the situation. This was not what I expected from today and I didn't want to find out what this man wanted from me. I had what I needed and honestly the word imprint made me cringe internally. Imprinting is what happens to baby ducks, not to wolves with human beings. What did you get yourself into, Fennie? What did you do to deserve such a life? "Edward, we're going. I'm too freaked out for this crap."
Anxiety running through my veins, I quickly made my getaway, letting Edward pick me up to run me home. I hadn't realized that one of the wolves was following after us, growling at my mate. I buried my head into my boyfriend's chest, waiting to reach the house.
My face felt frozen with fear as I opened my eyes, looking at the brown running towards us. While he didn't seem aggressive towards me, he glared daggers into Edward. If looks could kill, Edward would have to redie.
Thoughts ran through my head, shifting rapidly as Edward outran the wolf. I felt my chest begin to rise and fall rapidly as I could finally see the Cullen residence. All cars were in the driveway. One of the cars โ Carlisle's โ was still running. I watched as my blonde mate stepped out of the car. His smile soon turned to a protective snarl, leading Edward and I behind him.
Alice soon peeped out of the house, running up to Edward and I. "Hey, hey, you're okay. Don't worry, baby, we'll fix this."
"Wolfโ" She cut me off.
"I saw, which is weird because I usually can't see the shifters of La Push." She quickly turned to face her head up, staring directly at Edward. "Keep her on you. Everyone is coming out. We don't want a fight, but I couldn't have guessed something like this."
"Something like what?" I questioned, my voice almost shrill as I tried to calm myself down. My attempts were futile. "Somebody please tell me what the hell is going on! I don't understand anything!"
"Just stick with Edward, dear," Carlisle said from in front of his car, now face to face with the wolf that had chased us all the way over here. "The Shifters aren't supposed to attack any of us unless we go on their land. This behavior is uncalled for. The meadow isn't claimed by them and Edward has been there so many times โ It just doesn't make sense.
"Stay with me, children. We have a very, very angry wolf to deal with."
