JULIETTE didn't know how exactly she had gotten pushed into that line specifically, peeking behind her in an attempt to find her manager somewhere in the crowd. With no luck of finding the ginger woman, Juliette clipped her purse open and looked around. Thankfully, most of the security guards and event officials were distracted with other things, and Juliette looked up at the back of the person in front of her. He was tall and wore a black suit, and was very broad, which allowed Juliette the opportunity to whip her phone out. Using him as a shield, she quickly shot her manager a botched text that she was sure had a hundred typos from how fast she was typing. As she hit the send button, the top of her phone grazed the mans back, making her freeze. She saw him twist around in the corner of her eye, wincing at being caught red handed.
"You'll find better service when we get to the end of the carpet." Juliette's eyes went wide, looking up at the man in front of her through her lashes.
Juliette's stomach dropped at the sight. He was tall, taller than she originally thought, at least a whole foot taller than her at the minimum, dark blonde buzzed hair and a set of gorgeous blue eyes that were staring down at her.
His lips quirked into a small smirk at her surprise. "I'm sorry, I totally didn't mean to evade your space-"
"I'm not upset, you're fine. I use my phone at these things all the time. Just gotta be discreet." Juliette smiled and nodded up at him, "My manager abandoned me back there, and I have no idea where she went. I was hoping to get ahold of her "
He chuckled, removing one of his hands from front pockets of his dress slacks as the line for the carpet moved up. "I'm Drew." Juliette's smile widened as he reached his hand out, ringed fingers wiggling as a sign for her to shake it.
"Oh-" She chuckled, placing her phone back into her clutch and reaching out. "Juliette." She slotted her hand into his, taking note of the cool metal from his rings and the sheer size of his hands compared to hers. She would've held on longer if he hadn't pull away to step forward in line.
"I uh-" He nervously laughed, "I know who you are. You're really talented."
Juliette's cheeks bloomed pink, reaching up to shift her bangs from her eyes, "Oh, thank you. Thats really nice of you-"
"Next."
Their conversation was cut short by an event worker, gesturing Drew to move into the carpet. He smiled and nodded at her, walking down the carpet as photographers and paparazzi began snapping photos of him and calling his name.
Pushing down the flutter in her chest, she waited for her call, putting on her best smile as she walked down the carpet a minute after Drew.
She'd gotten used to the flashing lights and the calling of photographers. Juliette could only hope and pray that the poses she was giving were looking good and that they didn't capture any ugly photos.
She began gracefully stepping to the right, waving and smiling at the photographers as she went. When she went to move towards the end of the carpet, she felt the bottom of her dress get stuck under her heel, the girl turning her head to the left to look down at it.
Before she realized it, her right shoulder was colliding with someone. Juliette's eyes went wide, head snapping over and right hand reaching up to balance herself on them. Drew looked down at the girl, hands quickly reaching out and grabbing her arm to steady her as she nervously giggled. "Oh, God, I'm so sorry. My heel got stuck and I wasn't watching where I was going."
Drew chuckled and nodded his head towards her dress, holding his hand out. Juliette's cheeks began to warm as she slotted her hand into his, using the leverage to reach over and pull the end of her dress from under her heel before pulling her hand from his, "Thank you."
"No problem."
"Drew! Juliette! Smile for us, guys!"
Juliette looked over at the sea of photographers, too blinded by the flashing of their camera to see where the comment came from. "Wanna take a picture together?" Drew spoke over the shouting, and Juliette shrugged, keeping her smile wide as they positioned themselves for a photo together.
The two kept relative distance from each other, hoping to not make the other uncomfortable as the flashes of photos being taken blinded them.
"Get closer! Smile!"
Juliette chuckled, adjusting her dress as Drew pulled his left hand from his pocket, "May I?"
Juliette nodded, hiding her giddy laugh as Drew snaked his arm around her back and clasped his hand on her side. The warmth from his hand seeped through the thin fabric of her dress, fingers moving slightly as they posed for the photos.
The two parted from each other to move down the carpet, Juliette placing a hand on his arm and smiling up at him, "Thank you, again!" Drew nodded and smiled, "I'll see you in there, then?"
Juliette nodded sheepishly, turning back towards the flashing light to provide the last set of photographers with a few poses before she stepped off the carpet and into the crowd of managers, event coordinators, and security guards.
Her eyes searched for her manager, smile dropping when she noticed the woman. "Camille!" She hissed, stepping through the crowd to approach her, "Why'd you fucking dip out of there? Left me with no supervision and I embarrassed myself!"
Camille chuckled and crossed her arms over her chest, "Apparently not enough to scare away tall, dark and handsome. What happened?" Camille giggled, pulling Juliette towards the crowded bar.
Juliette chuckled and held her dress up as they walked, "He caught me using him as a shield to text you, and then I fell into him while fixing my dress!" The blonde girl looked around her to ensure no one could hear her, him especially. "He is so hot."
Camille nodded as she grabbed two martinis from the bartender, handing her one. "That he is. He's on that Outer Banks show!" Juliette raised an eyebrow as she sipped the martini, "What show?"
Camille rolled her eyes, "The one about the gold? Teenagers on the island that go treasure hunting?" Juliette shrugged and plucked the olive toothpick from her drink, bringing it to her lips before speaking, "I've never heard of Outer Banks."
She placed the olive in her mouth, pulling it from the toothpick as Camille's eyes went wide. "Well, good to know."
Juliette spun on her heel in surprise, pulling the toothpick from her mouth and chewing the olive as fast as she could. The olive did nothing to remove the lump in her throat as she stared up at Drew, stomach dropping at being caught once again.
She chuckled, placing the pick on the bar, "I-I'm sorry. I find I don't have much time for tv nowadays. I'll be sure to watch it though, promise." Her stomach swirled as Drew laughed, the tall man nodding in agreement, "Totally understandable. Your album just came out, you're a busy lady."
Juliette grinned in surprise, red lips stretching upwards, "You've listened to my album? Already?" He nodded, cheeks growing pink, "Yeah. My friends and I had some of it on during the ride over here." He gestured behind him, where a group of chatting people were standing directly behind him.
Juliette chuckled, "Well, glad it's a crowd pleasure. Got a favorite song?" Drew smiled at the bartender as she handed him a small glass of water, "Uh, yeah, Fast Times. It's really good. You've got a great voice." Juliette was used to compliments on her music by now, but for some reason, them coming from him had her stomach fluttering nonstop.
"Thank you, I appreciate that. I wish I had a compliment for you on your show." She chuckled nervously, taking a sip of her martini as a hand slapped Drew's shoulder. "Hey, man. Movie is starting soon. Oh shit-" The dark skinned man chuckled in surprise, "Hey, you're that singer, right? Drew here was just raving about you on the ride over here-"
"Okay, JD, come on man." Drew cut his friend off, with an embarrassed laugh, "I'll see you in there." Drew finished his water and placed it on the bar, turning to his friend and shoving him towards their group.
Juliette chuckled, eyebrows raised as she downed the rest of her martini and placed it on the bar beside her cup, turning to Camille. "Not a peep, Camille, or you're fired."
Camille's mouth clamped closed, witty comment disappearing as she zipped her lips closed. "Get in there, Carter, before I scalp your creator pass to a fan out there." A boisterous laugh escaped Juliette as she entered the viewing room.
Do Revenge was a great movie, Juliette thoroughly enjoyed the laughs she got from it. And she found out why Drew was there; his friend from earlier was in the movie.
Juliette and Camille walked arm in arm through the crowd, walking slowly and laughing to each other about the movie. They hadn't quite reached the open double doors, but she could vaguely see them above the people's heads in front of her. She couldn't wait to get out into the fresh air and get home to her cat, Lyla.
"Hey!" Juliette curiously turned around at the call, watching in surprise as Drew moved his way through the crowd, eyes locked on hers. Juliette slowed her walking as much as she could without being a nuisance to the people around her, removing her arm from Camille's and smiling up at him.
"Hey. Do you uh-" He cleared his throat with a nervous smile, "We're having an after party, would you wanna come? It's technically JD's party—you don't know who JD is, sorry. My friend from earlier? Well—yeah. Would you wanna come?"
Juliette's stomach dropped, she knew she was going to reject the offer. Her feet were killing her and her cat hadn't eaten dinner yet. "Oh—" She frowned, "I'm sorry, I actually have to get home, these shoes don't agree with me. I'm so sorry! I really appreciate the invitation though, Drew."
Her chest tightened at the disappointment evident on his face, which he quickly covered up with a smile, "Yeah, no that's totally understandable." He readied himself to ask for her number, but Juliette began getting gently pushed out the door by the crowd. "I'll see you around?" Juliette called to him as Camille locked her arm in hers to prevent them from being separated.
Drew sighed in disappointment, twisting his ring around his middle finger and clicking his teeth, "Hey, man! Is she coming?" JD patted Drew's shoulder, looking into the crowd where she had disappeared.
"Nah, man. She's can't come." JD huffed at his friends disappointment, "You get her number?"
Drew shook his head and turned to his friend to gesture him back to their group, "No I didn't."
"That's okay, man! In this great world of social media, you can DM her!" JD slapped both of Drews shoulders from behind, but the man shook his head, "She didn't seem interested, dude. That's why she rejected me." Drew tried to brush it off, having been rejected many times before. But JD could sense how hard it hit him.
"Why the hell did you say no?" Camille gasped as their car drove away from the event, Juliette rolling her eyes as she plucked the heels from her feet. "Lyla hasn't eaten yet, and I'm tired!"
"He was so obviously interested in you! He's so hot, Jules! If you don't tap that, I will."
Camille was too funny, and Juliette couldn't help but smile at her. Despite being her manager, the 40 year old woman was 20 at heart. Juliette nudged Camille, "Nobody is tapping anything, Montez. I'm tired, my feet hurt and I miss my cat. I don't want to spend the rest of my night at an after party! Especially not a party being thrown by a guy I've never met before. Yes, he was cute, but I've learned my lesson about dating in this industry. It never works out."
Camille frowned at the girl, remembering how hard Juliette took her last break-up. Griffin, whom Juliette had met on the set of a movie, was a good kid, or so they thought. But he couldn't keep his hands off of pretty girls at clubs when Juliette wasn't around. It destroyed Juliette, and not just because he cheated on her, but because he broke up with her publicly, in ear shot of paparazzi outside of a restaurant. And then the stories started coming out about his past bigoted opinions and tweets. And Juliette took the fall for it. It almost killed Juliette's reputation and possibly her career had it not been handled so effectively.
"Jules-"
"Please, Cami." Juliette sighed, leaning back in the leather seat, smiling at her manager as best she could, "I'm tired, and I don't want a boyfriend."
Drew was attractive, he was incredibly kind and from the scene she had watched of his character in Outer Banks while hiding in a bathroom stall, he was incredibly talented. But dating for people like her never ended up well, for example, see Brad and Jennifer, Justin and Selena, Ethan and Uma. Someone always fucks up or media gets in the way. She's not sure she can handle that right now.
