"Clary," Simon said. "Clary, come on. We gotta go," Simon continued. Clary turned to look at him. "Simon, I think Jace can help us," she said. The boy was taken aback, "What?" Clary took his hand. "Come on," she said, looking at Wren to come too. The blonde followed after her friend as Simon started speaking again. "How do we know this Mick Jagger-looking guy is even gonna try—"

Jace cut him off, "Mundane, we do not have the time." What was his problem? "Come on, Simon. Let's go," Clary said, pulling a reluctant Simon along. He looked at Wren and her eyes were wide. "Don't look at me," she whisper yelled. They entered the building and Wren looked at it in amazement.

She thought the outside was incredible but this, this was awesome. "Whoa," she muttered. The three looked at her, Simon in confusion, Jace with a nod and cocky smile, and Clary with a happy smile. Jace then looked at Simon and pulled up his sleeve. He took something out of his pocket and began burning a symbol into his arm.

"Whoa who whoa! What the hell are you doing?" Wren asked him. He ignored her and she looked at Clary incredulously. Simon looked at the redhead also. "I know. Trust me," Clary told them. "He's, like, burning himself," Simon said. Jace finished what he was doing and grabbed Simon's hand and her friend was quick to object. "Buddy, what's going on, man? I'm not your type, man. I don't even..." Simon trailed off.

His eyes widened slightly and he too was staring at the inside in amazement. "Where are we? What the hell? Clary, is there a war going on that I don't know about?" Simon asked. "There is now," Jace replied before walking forward. "I think my mother's at the center of it," Clary added. She too began walking away. "Wait, what?" Wren asked in confusion. What the hell was even going on anymore?

"You coming?" Jace asked the two who remained standing by the door. "Yeah," Simon answered before beginning to walk forward only for Wren to grab his hand and pull him back. "What?" He asked her. "I don't like this," she said, looking around the building. Simon just shook his head and pulled her forward. "Me neither, but let's get some answers," he replied.

The two began following after Clary and Jace. "What is this place? There's a lot of gear in here. What'd they do, rob a tech shop?" Simon was saying. Jace stopped in front of a screen and began tapping on it. He then slid something onto a bigger screen and they saw what the camera outside the building was picking up. Somebody was outside the door of the building.

Wren let go of Simon's hand and crossed her arms over her chest anxiously. Simon didn't notice as he leaned toward Clary. "So this cold-blooded killer is gonna help us?" He asked her. "He's not a killer. He's protecting us," Clary was quick to defend Jace. Wren narrowed her eyes. "Specifically, you," Jace corrected, "It's sort of our thing."

"Your thing? You guys have a thing?" Simon asked. Wren almost rolled her eyes with how jealous he sounded. "He means a Shadowhunter thing. That's what they do, protecting humans from demons," Clary explained. "Demons, right. That makes perfect sense, 'cause there are demons running all around New York," Simon said, as if this whole thing were some crazy joke. It was starting to feel that way to Wren.

"That is the first correct thing you've said all day," Jace said. "Demons don't exist, okay? And Shadow Warriors? What the hell are Shadow Warriors?" Wren asked. "Shadowhunters," Jace corrected. "Whatever," she snapped. He returned his attention to the screen. Another man was at the door too.

"NYPD," the first man said with a knock to the door. "Won't they find us?" Clary asked. "No. Our wards will deter them. And the NYPD will do their typical mundie thing for a few hours and then the area will be clear," Jace explained. Wards? What the hell is going on?

"What is going on? Why are there mundanes in the Institute?" A new voice spoke up. Wren turned to the guy who had spoken. He had dark hair and those tattoo things on his body just like Jace. He was just as handsome as Jace too, if not more. Was everybody here good looking? "A Circle member followed them to get to Clary," Jace explained to him.

"A Circle rune, just like the guys that took my mother," Clary said. "What exactly is a Circle member and why are they trying to kill us?" Simon asked. "That's your first question? How about, what the hell is a Shadowhunter, what's with all the tattoos, why do they think demons are real oh and what the hell is going on?" Wren asked. Jace looked at her. "I'll answer your questions later, alright mundane?" He said.

"My name is Wren," she said, anger in her tone. "Alright, Wren," he said before turning to Simon and addressing his question. "All we know is a long time ago the Circle led a revolt.
A lot of Shadowhunters got killed including my father," he explained. "And since the revolt, we've been forbidden to even hear about the Circle," the dark haired guy said.

"But, how is that even possible? It's your history," Clary said. Jace scoffed, "Says the girl who didn't know she was a Shadowhunter?" He and the dark haired guy walked over to a table. "Yeah. Yeah, you're right. And now the only person who knows the truth is missing, so I don't care about your rules or what's forbidden, I'm— There's got to be someone out there who can tell us why they've taken my mother," the redhead said.

"There is. You coming?" Jace said as he began walking past them. "Yeah," Clary replied. Simon began walking forward as well, with Wren reluctantly following behind. "No, no, no.
Not you two," Jace said. Wren stopped walking and held up her hands. "Hey, we're a package deal," Clary informed.

"Yeah," Simon said. "There are runes all over the training room floor that would kill your friend and your mundie boyfriend," Jace said.

"He's not my—"

"I'm not, like—"

Wren cringed out how awkward this was. "We're, uh, just friends," Simon finally said. "Best friends," Clary corrected. "Yeah, and I'm tough. I can handle runes. So, uh, bring on the runes," Simon said. "You don't even know what runes are, Simon," Wren hissed. "Yeah, what exactly are runes?" He asked.

"They give Shadowhunters our demon-fighting powers," a dark haired girl said as she approached them. She too was very beautiful. Maybe it was a Shadowhunter thing. The dark haired girl then pulled out the stick thing that Jace used to burn himself and ran it over her arm, revealing the tattoo looking thing. So those are runes, not tattoos.

"So hot," Simon muttered and Wren rolled her eyes. Jace cleared his throat. "The rune," Simon corrected. "Don't worry, Clary. I'll watch over the best friend," the girl said. "Best friends, plural," Clary corrected, pointing at Wren. "She can come too, I guess. In fact, I was about to make breakfast," the brunette said.

"On second thought, the runes might be less lethal," Jace said. The girl laughed slightly. "I'll pretend I didn't hear that. Please excuse my brother's lack of manners. This is Alec and I'm Isabelle Lightwood," the girl introduced, holding out a hand. At least now Wren had names to put to their faces. Simon took her hand, which Wren was sure the girl expected him to kiss, and began wiggling it. "Lewis. Simon, Simon Lewis. Two first names. Am I still talking?" He rambled.

Isabelle looked to Wren. "And you are?" She asked. "I'm Wren Holland," Wren replied. She was feeling slightly intimidated by the girl. "She has the Sight," Jace told his siblings. "The what?" Wren asked. That was the second time she had heard that word and she still had no idea what it meant.

"The Sight," he repeated. "You repeating it isn't gonna magically make me know what that means," she said. "It's the ability to see things from our world. Like Shadowhunters and demons," Isabelle tried to explain. "You're able to see through glamours," Alec continued. "Which is why you could see me outside of that club, why you were able to see the Institute for what it really is, and why you could see me fighting that Circle member," Jace went on.

"So why do I have it?" She asked and he shrugged. "Some mundanes are able to see the Shadow World, we don't know why. They're just lucky I guess," he said with a smirk. "I wouldn't say lucky," Alec said before continuing. "Some mundanes think they're seeing things and go crazy because of it," he said. "So why don't you just tell them that they're not crazy and explain to them this whole Shadow World bullshit?" Wren questioned, growing upset. She didn't understand why they wouldn't just tell those people with the Sight the truth.

"Mundanes are not supposed to know about this world," Isabelle said. "So you just let them lose their minds then? What the hell is wrong with you people?" Wren asked incredulously. So Shadowhunters are a bunch of assholes. Again, she would never speak like this to a bunch of strangers. But this day was getting more and more frustrating and all of this was confusing.

"I wouldn't expect you to understand, mundane," Alec said, practically spitting out the word as if it were poison on his tongue. Wren looked away under his intimidating glare and twisted her fingers together. Simon looked around the tense room before looking back at Isabelle, completely mesmerized as he pointed his thumb at Wren. "She has two first names too," Simon said. Alec groaned in annoyance whilst Isabelle laughed.

"Simon," Wren said. "Yes," he said, struggling to take his eyes away from Isabelle. He did and looked at his friend, she narrowed her eyes. "Shut up," she told him. "Shutting up," he said, before looking back at Isabelle with a sheepish smile.

Isabelle looked between the two before laughing. "See? Your best friends are safe and sound here," Jace told Clary. "Jace, if anything happens to them—" Simon cut her off. "Go on, I'll be fine. I think," he said, not even sparing Clary a glance. Clary looked at Wren who sent her a reassuring smile. "Yeah, I'll be fine too," she told the girl. Clary nodded and turned to Jace.

"Where are we going?" She asked him. "Training room," he replied, pointing in the direction of it. Clary began walking and Jace turned back to Simon and Wren. "Hey, uh don't eat the food. Dangerous," he told them.

"Jace, you coming?" Clary called. "Yeah, I'm coming," he replied before following after her. Isabelle was quick to drag Simon away and Wren was left behind. Of course they ditched her. She looked around the area and her eyes landed on Alec. He gave her an annoyed look and walked away from her. She hesitated on following after him but she didn't know anyone else or where else to go, so she did.

"So, what exactly is a Shadowhunter? Like, what do you do besides hunting demons? And those rune things, how do they work?" She asked awkwardly. Alec ignored her and began to walk faster. "Look, it's clear that you don't like me or anything but I just want some answers and—" Alec whipped around and glared at her. "Stop following me, mundane," he said before spinning back around and stalking off.

Wren released a breath and looked after him. "Good talk," she muttered before turning around and walking back in the direction she had come. But she didn't recognize where she was or know where to go. Wren looked around to try to find someone, anyone. But there was no one in sight. "Great. Of course I'd get lost in a place like this when there's no one around to help me. Not that they'd help me anyway since it seems like no one here likes mundanes. Except maybe Isabelle. But maybe she just likes Simon and not all mundanes. I mean, she ditched me. Why am I calling humans mundanes now? I haven't even been here that long," Wren sighed as she walked down the empty corridor.

Wren looked around the corridor again before blindly walking in one direction, hoping to bump into someone she knew or find where she had come from.
