CHAPTER SIXTY-ONE:
LIES AND BACKSTORIES
THEY WERE ALL STANDING in the living room except for Bella, Alice and Rosalie who were in the other room. Carlisle and Esme were sitting on the couch across from Jacob who was sitting in the chair. Edward was sitting on the other chair opposite of Jacob. Emmett and Amelia stood to the side of the room whilst Emma and Jasper stood directly behind the couch.
"Sam's lost the element of surprise and he doesn't wanna take you on outnumbered. So he's not gonna come at you head on. He's got the place surrounded and he'll wait for his opportunity." Jacob explained to the family.
"He won't get through without a fight." Emmett spoke up.
Carlisle turned his head to look at his son, shaking his head slightly. "No fights. We won't be the ones to break the treaty."
"The treaty is void. At least in Sam's mind." Jacob responded.
"Not in ours." Esme said with the slight shake of her head.
"Carlisle, no one's hunted for weeks." Amelia spoke up, her eyes glancing at the two Whitlock siblings who's eyes were a dangerous black color.
"We'll make do." Esme told her.
"Mama, if I'm going to continue to heal Bella, I need something in my system." Emma spoke with a slight frown.
"We'll figure something out." Esme assured her with a soft smile.
"You've done us a great service, Jacob. Thank you." Carlisle said with the nod of his head. Jacob nodded in response before getting up and walking out of the home. Emma shared a look with her brother, frowning at the darkened colors of his eyes. Jasper grabbed her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. Emma sighed before walking out of the room, her brother following her closely.
"How are you doing?" Jasper softly asked her as they walked up to the balcony. Emma leaned against the railing, her eyes scanning the woods.
"I'm fine." She assured.
"I mean, how are you doing with the whole. . . Rose situation." Jasper hesitantly asked. Emma bit her lip as a frown fell over her features. She swallowed and offered him the best smile she could muster.
"I'm doing just fine." She lied. Jasper, even though he knew it was a lie, decided not to push it. Instead, he just nodded his head in response. Emma messed with her hands as she continued to look out at the woods. Her voice was almost a whisper when she spoke, "Jazz, are we going to be okay?" She turned her head to look at her brother.
Jasper looked at the woods for a moment before he nodded his head. "Yeah, we're going to be okay." He turned his head to look at Emma who was still looking at him. He moved his arm and wrapped it around her shoulders. Emma placed her head on his shoulder, her eyes closing as he gave her a kiss on the top of the head. "We're going to be just fine."

Amelia and Emma sat in the room with Bella, much to Emma's dismay. Emma was reading a book to distract herself from Bella so as to not attack the human. Bella and Amelia were conversing with one another until finally, realization hit Bella.
"You know, I know what happened to almost everyone here except for you, Alice, and Esme." Bella piped up. Amelia cocked an amused eyebrow at the girl.
"Is this your way of asking me if I'll tell you how I was changed?" Amelia asked. A sheepish smile fell on Bella's face as she nodded her head. Amelia chuckled.
"You know, she's actually older than Carlisle if I'm not mistaken." Emma piped up. Bella's eyes widened in surprise.
"Really?"
"Mhm. Carlisle was changed in 1663, I was changed in 1496." Amelia answered. "Which makes me over five-hundred years old."
"And I thought Carlisle was old." Bella mumbled, making Amelia go into a fit of laughter.
"I was born in Paris, France as Amelia Indigo Aveline."
"Weird ass name." Emma mumbled earning a slap on the back of the head from Amelia.
"Anyways, I had two younger brothers, Alexandre and Gabriel. We were a happy family and one of the wealthiest and most respected in Paris. As a kid, I was a rebel. I went against everything my parents told me and even though I got in trouble for it, I still did it. I was sixteen when it happened. I had snuck out of my house so it was late at night, somewhere past midnight, and I had taken the usual alley beside of my home. I had taken the wrong time of night to walk down that alley, because there were two men.
"One was on the ground, a hand pressed to his stomach. I was confused at first until I realized he had been bleeding. The man that was standing in front of him had stabbed him, I didn't realize it until it was too late. I turned to run, but the man had already caught up to me. He had stabbed me in the side twice, not wanting any witnesses, before running off. I was sure I was going to bleed out right there, but I was surprised when a figure had appeared in front of me. In hopes of me having some sort of ability, she changed me. When she found out I had none, she was disappointed to say the least and left me alone to figure things out myself. I hadn't realized she was part of the Volturi until I saw them again and she was there."
"Wait, the Volturi?" Bella asked, her eyes widened.
"Jane Volturi was the one that changed me." Amelia said with a nod. "Why she kept me alive is something I will never know. But when I went to the Volturi decades later, I found Carlisle. Or rather, he helped me escape and he showed me the animal diet. I was supposed to die that day, but Carlisle saved me, and I will forever be grateful for that."
"So, you were the first original Cullen. . .?" Bella asked. Amelia nodded her head.
"I was there when Carlisle saved Edward, Esme, and Rose. When Rosalie found Emmett and brought him back, I had never been so scared for someone to die in my entire life. With just one look, he meant everything to me. And he still does. I'm glad that I found him, after several centuries of being alone. He's the best thing that happened to me." Amelia had a smile on her face and this of course brought a smile to both Emma and Bella's face.
"Wait, so when did you, Jasper, and Alice join?" Bella asked, looking at Emma. Emma looked up at her.
"We joined in 1950."
"It took a lot of convincing to make Emma stay." Amelia said with the roll of her eyes.
"I was closed off and didn't want to trust you people, okay. Could you really blame me?" Emma asked with a huff. Amelia chuckled at the girl before turning her head at the sound of footsteps. Rosalie entered the room and Amelia shared an annoyed look with Bella when Emma stood up and walked out of the room.
Rosalie sighed as she sat down in the spot Emma was previously sitting in. "She hates me."
"Rose, she doesn't hate you." Amelia reassured. "She's not exactly your best friend right now, but she doesn't hate you. No matter how much she says she does, you're her mate. It's almost literally impossible for her to hate you."
"I'm the cause for this." Bella said with a frown. "I'm sorry, Rosalie."
"It's fine." Rosalie said with a sigh. "I just don't like it when she's mad at me."
"No one likes it when she's mad at them." Amelia retorted.
"She's always mad at me, so. . ." Bella trailed off.
"She's not mad at you," Amelia shook her head. "She just hates your entire existence."
"Same difference." Bella shrugged.
