18 | advanced collaging (part two)

step four — figurines

1) open up your first photo of your person. i chose selena gomez (: mask the background so it's just your model/face claim. place the photo ovee the first center photo. transform tab → merge layers → drop shadow → opacity: 100 blur: 13-22 → checkmark

(selena gomez photo shoot for marie claire)

2) open up the second photo and mask. place in center. repeat the drop shadowing process from last few steps.

3) open your third photo of your model/face claim. mask. merge. blah.

step five — outlined circle

1) open another color scheme photo. make sure it's a perfect square. you can crop it as you open it as a foreground picture. go to the mask tab. change the it to the circle tool (ellipse) make a circle. invert the mask so the circle shows and crop out another circle in it. you can save the preset mask by going to the home tab and clicking the "save mask" (it should look like a cat with an up arrow) transform tab → merge layers → drop shadow → opacity:100 blur: 13-22

2) repeat for other figures with other aesthetic photos. open the preset first!! it should be in saved in the "saved masks" if you saved it before you merged. (the cat with the arrow down in the home tab) open another foreground and click "replace but keep this mask" make sure your photos are a complete square!

step six — illuminati (jk, it's just triangles)

1) open another photo. click the mask tab and change the tool to the polygon one. mask a isosceles triangle and save the mask in the home tab before merging. keep in mind, you'll be masking two over triangles beside each other. repeat masking process and do the same with two other triangles.

2) optional. do the same the other side, or diagonal from it.

step seven — strips

1) open an aesthetic photo. perfect square. go to the mask tab and pick the rectangle tool. mask out strips. merge with a drop shadow over the triangles. save.

step eight — coloring

1) open vsco cam and upload the photo. color it as you please!

step nine — add texture

1) open weheartit and find yourself a texture.

here's one i'm going to use. i have a collection specifically with textures and overlays on weheartit (@flynneus)

2) open it in superimpose, your filtered photo as the background and the texture as the foreground. transform tab → expand the foreground to fit the background, blend mode: screen. erase and part of the foreground if you want in the masking tab. i like to erase the areas around my model. merger without a drop shadow this time and save.

step ten — text

1) the text is really simple. use song lyrics or a quote. open your photo in phonto. play around with the fonts and colors. you'll be surprised at how many outcomes you'll have.

this is how mine turned out! the somg i used is called "pigment" by h.e.r

i realized that these could be used as character cards or moodboards!

please give credit where credit is due. if this tutorial was successful to you, show me! i'd love to see your recreations.

i have an instagram where i make these kinds of edits. my user is sxynsty

( fonts used: coolveticarg-regular & buttercup )

much love,
