Violet's Outfit!!!

Summer had officially begun, and I'd let EJ talk me into joining the group at Camp Shallowlake this summer.

I didn't have anything else going on- so why not?

After the production of Beauty & The Beast, things between Ricky and I had basically been a big question mark. He'd given me the necklace back after opening night, but since then things between us had been awkward to say the least. Not to mention the fact that he was now hanging out with Lily for God knows why.

I wasn't going to let that ruin my summer, though. Being away from Ricky for these next two weeks was exactly what I needed to be able to figure things out for myself and focus on myself rather than focusing on another person and how they were feeling too.

My first official day of summer began with me sitting on the curb in front of my house with my backpack and duffel, waiting for EJ to pick me up. All us East high kids had decided to drive together, with EJ borrowing his mother's minivan so that we could all fit.

Around 7:30, EJ pulled up in front of my house. I opened up the backseat passenger door to already find Gina in the front seat (the two of them were now officially dating and they could not be a cuter couple!), with Kourtney, Ashlyn & Carlos spread out throughout the two back rows.

"Hey guys!" I exclaimed, throwing my bags in the trunk.

"Hey Vi! I'm so happy you could come with!" Ashlyn exclaimed.

"Same here!" I exclaimed, taking a seat in the third row next to Carlos.

As we pulled out of the neighborhood, we began our own version of carpool karaoke, staring of course with the HSM2 classic of 'What Time Is It?', and since I'm me and since I'm obnoxious, I obviously had to sing Sharpay's parts of the songs.

After that song, Ashlyn and I looked at each and had the same thought: it was time for some Les Mis.

I quickly put on 'One Day More' and we had the most theatre kid-esq. singalong ever. It was glorious.

After listening to music and switching places within the car a few times to keep things interesting, we finally arrived at Camp Shallow Lake, which immediately gave me total Camp Rock vibes.

I'd never been to camp before, so the only frame of reference I really had was the Camp Rock movies, and honestly, the camp already seemed super similar to the movie.

Once we'd checked in and handed in our phones (which, luckily, wasn't as painful as I'd anticipated), EJ gave us a quick tour of the camp.

It was way fancier than I'd expected, with a full-scale food court-esq. dining hall, a swimming pool, and tons of other cool things.

After we'd gotten 'the grand tour', it was time to head to our cabins.

Ashlyn, Kourtney, Gina and I had all been put in the 'HoneyComb' which was the cabin that most of the high school girls would be in.

"This looks just like the cabin Mitchie and her mom had in the first Camp rock!" I exclaimed when we walked into the cabin.

"How many Camp Rock references are you up to now, Vi? 50?" Gina asked jokingly.

"51 now", I laughed.

"Seriously though! This is adorable!" Ashlyn grinned, putting her bags down on one of the bottom bunks.

I quickly put my stuff down on the bunk above hers, with Gina and Kourtney choosing the bunk set next to us.

Gina and Kourtney then went into the bathroom to 'investigate'.

I leaned back on the bed and sighed.

"Ashlyn, is there something wrong with me?"

Ashlyn turns her head to look at me.

"Um, no?"

I groaned, and sat up from my spot on the bed. I hugged my knees close to my chest. I let out a deep sigh, "I don't know. I just feel...I don't know, weird, I guess."

Ashlyn laughs, and sits down next to me on my bed. "And what does that mean?"

"I just want a change. Like, from everything. I need to be free, I want to just go live in the woods somewhere and never talk to anyone ever again."

"Oh my God, is this about Ricky? Girl, get over it!"

I grabbed a pillow and threw it at Ashlyn's head. "Ow, hey!"

Ashlyn laughs, "I'm serious. Violet, you need to stop with the sadness. No moping allowed."

"But...it's so hard." I flop back down on my bed.

"I know. But this is our summer! No focusing on dumb boys! Focus on you!" Ashlyn said.

"Please don't say the words 'Hot Girl Summer'", I laughed.

"Aw but now I want to!" Ashlyn complained.

"I'll throw another pillow at your head", I threatened.

"Ok, fine", Ashlyn said.

A few seconds later, three other girls walked into our cabin.

One was the girl who EJ called Gadget earlier, although according to her introduction to us, her real name was Maddox, and everyone here would be getting a camp nickname.

The other two girls in our cabin were pretty quiet and kept to themselves, although they seemed nice enough.

After we settled in, it was time for tonight's announcement featuring the surprise 'celebrity guest'.

We quickly walked the path over to the outdoor amphitheater, catching up with Carlos and EJ as we walked there.

Once we got there, we quickly took our seats, and then Maddox came out and sang the Camp Shallow Lake song, which was honestly catchy as heck.

Then, the head counselor, Dewey Wood came out and introduced the celebrity guest, who was Corbin Bleu.

He announced that our camp would be the first ever to put on a production of the Broadway version of Frozen!

All six of us East High kids immediately looked at one another and began to freak out! It was insane.

Then, to add to the excitement, Corbin Bleu announced that our camp would be featured in a Disney+ documentary.

Which means that I now join the ranks of Elizabeth Olsen, Oscar Isaac, and Tom Hiddleston as an actor in a Disney+ original. Just kidding, but still, it was a cool thought.

Corbin then left the stage, a cameraman and people holding two big ring lights following him.

For someone whose biggest claims of fame include HSM and Jump In, he seemed a little too full of himself.

Afterwards, we were standing outside just kinda talking and taking in everything we'd just heard.

"So, I'm the director?" EJ said, joining our group.

"What? Really?" Gina asked, a huge smile on her face.

"Yeah, Dewey asked me. Apparently Corbin Bleu was supposed to direct but then he flaked out. And our old camp director retired this morning", EJ replied.

"You're the Greta Gerwig of Frozen!" Carlos exclaimed.

I was super happy for EJ, and was just about to reply when a familiar face rushed up to us.

It was Ricky.

Ricky would be here with camp at us, and all my confusion about our relationship and my feelings for him came rushing back.

My plans of focusing on myself this summer were dashed and divided in under a minute.

Now, who knew what the hell this summer would bring?

Author's Note: hey guys!! This chapter was a bit hard to write, just due to the fact that the scenes that happened within this episode were hard to insert Violet into. Nevertheless, I had fun writing it and I hope you guys enjoy reading it. I'll plan on updating late next week after episode two is released!

Lots of love, Beth ❤️❤️❤️
