cast list & newbie campout

Violet's outfit

I woke up in the morning to the sound of Kourtney screaming. My first thought as that she'd fell out of bed or something, but I quickly realized that her screaming was due to the cast list for Frozen being released.

I quickly pulled my hair into a messy high ponytail and slid my crocs on, following Ashlyn outside to the cast list.

Once we'd reached the bulletin board that held the list, I immediately rushed to the front and scanned for my name.

Once I'd found my name, I squealed. I'd been cast as Queen Iduna, Anna & Elsa's mother, and I'd be a featured dancer in all the ensemble scenes.

"No way!" I exclaimed.

"Congrats, Vi!" Ricky said, smiling at me.

"Congrats to you too, Kristoff!" I grinned.

"I'm ensemble?" Ashlyn asked, confusion in her voice.

"It's not that bad, Ash! We'll be in the ensemble together", I said.

"Yeah, plus the show literally needs the ensemble in order to function", Gina said.

Later on, we were all sitting in the cabin, getting ready for the Newbie Campout. I sat on my bed, trying to stuff as much clothes and crap into my backpack as physically possible.

Ashlyn sat on the bunk on top of mine, still complaining about the ensemble. Considering she'd played the lead in the spring musical, I did understand her frustrations. However, at the same time, I was in the ensemble as well and was usually in the ensemble for most of the musicals I'd ever auditioned before, so I did feel a little hurt.

And then to make matters worse, Maddox told Ashlyn that she was acting like a Leo Rising, which totally set her off. I mean, understandable, but still.

After about a half an hour more of time to pack and get ready, we all trouped down the nature trails to a small clearing in the woods, where we'd be spending the night.

I'd watched my fair share of true crime shows over the years, so I was instantly weary. Most campouts in the woods led to murder, add in the fact that we were an unsupervised group of teenagers and you'd get the plot to Netflix's next big true crime docuseries.

Once I'd put my stuff down, and settled into the tent I'd be sharing with Ashlyn, it was time for the Newbie Campout campfire.

The bonfire began with EJ singing 'The Ballad of Shallow Lake' which told of Mrs. Fine, a ghost who'd been haunting the camp for decades now. Once he was done the story, Maddox told the story in more detail.

I wasn't too scared compared to some others, such as Kourtney who's eyes were wide in fear. The story came to an abrupt stop once Jett interjected and made the story seem kinda lame, causing Maddox to run away, a disappointed look on her face.

After the failed story and sitting around the fire for a little bit more time, we all got up to go to our tents for bed.

I sat in my tent with Ashlyn, too wired to go to bed, but also bored out of my mind. All I wanted was my phone so I could watch some mindless sitcom on my phone, but I was left to my own devices with no devices.

After about twenty minutes or so, I heard a voice outside my tent.

"Vi? Are you awake?"

I peeked my head out of the tent and saw Ricky standing there, "Yeah, what's up?"

"Wanna go on a quick walk together? I'm bored and can't get to sleep", Ricky said.

"Sure, why not?" I said, getting out of my tent.

We walked through the woods in silence for a couple minutes.

"So...what's up?" I asked awkwardly.

"Not much. Oh! Carlos and I scared the crap out of Kourtney, which was pretty funny", Ricky said.

"I'm surprised she didn't kill you", I laughed.

"I am too", Ricky said, laughing as well.

"So, where are we walking to?" I asked.

"I found a creepy shrine in the woods earlier, and wanted to try and find it again", Ricky replied.

"Awesome!" I exclaimed.

"That's why I brought you along. If anyone's into creepy shit, it's you", Ricky laughed.

"True, we have watched a lot of true crime and horror movies over the years", I said.

"Remember when we watched The Conjuring 2 with all the lights out?" Ricky asked.

"Yeah, and during the one jump scare I got so scared that I nearly pushed you off my bed?" I laughed.

"I literally thought I was gonna break my neck", he replied.

"And you didn't? So don't hold that against me five years later".

Ricky laughed, "How often do you bring up the fact that you sprained your ankle the one time I tried to teach you to skateboard? And that was in sixth grade!"

"It was a traumatic life event", I said defensively.

"Sure it was", he replied.

"It's funny how you're around for all my traumatic life events. It's like...maybe you're part of the problem?" I said jokingly.

"Oh yeah, my presence was definitely why you got your period on the hayride field trip in sixth grade", Ricky laughed.

"Asshole!" I laughed, shoving him playfully.

"Hey!" He laughed.

"Not to change the topic, but I'm 90% sure we're lost right now".

"We're not lost. At least I don't think so?" Ricky replied nervously.

"Wanna just keep walking and see where we end up?" I asked.

"As dangerous as that seems, I'm bored and don't feel like staring into space in my tent, so sure", he replied.

"Thank you! It's so boring out there! And it's not even like there's enough light to read a book or something! I'm also stalling because I don't wanna get changed, brush my teeth or take out my contacts in a tent in the middle of the woods", I said.

"Just walk around blind like I'm doing", Ricky shrugged.

"You're such a dumbass!" I laughed.

"You dated this dumbass", Ricky laughed.

I grew silent. Dated, past tense. I knew we weren't like back together or anything, but still. I was holding out hope that we'd get back together officially this summer.

"Vi, are you ok? Did I say something?" Ricky asked.

"Nope, nothing. I'm really tired though, can we walk back?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure. I'm sorry if I said something though. I promise I didn't mean to hurt you", he replied.

I nodded and then stayed silent until we got back.

We went our separate ways without another word, the carefree joking nature between us from before completely forgotten, leaving me feeling more confused about our standing even more than I was before.

Author's note: Hey guys! This chapter is probably my favorite of the new season so far, just because I love writing banter and dialogue between Ricky and Vi. Let me know what you thought of this chapter! Also, I'm planning on releasing a new Cobra Kai book super soon, so let me know if you'd be interested in a tag for that book. I'm planning on updating this sometime next week, so stay tuned!

Lots of love, Beth ❤️❤️❤️
