auditions- beauty & the beast edition

Violet's outfit

Another year, another set of musical auditions.

Unlike last time, however, I didn't feel like a nervous wreck when I walked onto the stage for my audition. Partially because we'd be doing a group number first, but also because I had definitely regained some confidence through doing High School Musical in the fall.

As we began singing the song 'Belle' as a group, I suddenly noticed that Ricky wasn't there. I knew that he'd been a bit more nervous than usual when it came to auditioning, but still. It was weird he wasn't there.

Luckily, he rushed into the auditorium when we were only like a few seconds into the song.

He joined in with all of us, and I don't know, it was just super fun to be up there singing one of my favorite Disney songs with all of my friends and my boyfriend.

Finally, it was time for the big part of the song. The part of the song where you'd have to sustain your voice and belt the notes out.

If you did that part successfully, you were practically guaranteed one of the leading roles.

I stepped towards the center of the stage- ready to take my shot.

However, once I was there, the new girl Lily elbowed me to the side and sang the verse herself.

I mean, yeah, I'm kinda competitive at times too, but the fact that she elbowed me in the side for no reason pissed me the hell off.

I fell to the side due to her elbowing me, and Ricky caught me, pulling me close to him.

"Are you okay?" He asked quietly.

"Yeah, I'll be fine", I said quietly, grabbing his hand as we stood there.

After Lily was done singing (and after I finally begrudgingly accepted the fact that she could sing really freaking well), it was time for all of us to take the time to prepare for our solo auditions.

"What should I sing?" I asked Ashlyn and Kourtney, as I nervously paced back and forth.

"You sound amazing with whatever you sing. Just do something that makes you happy!" Ashlyn said, smiling.

"I thought you were gonna do either 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' or 'Mama Who Bore Me'?" Kourtney asked.

"Ooh! Do 'Mama Who Bore Me'! I love Spring Awakening", Ashlyn said.

"Fuck it. I'll just wing it and decide when I get out there", I laughed.

"Yay! You'll do great no matter what you sing, Vi", Kourtney grinned.

After about five minutes of the three of us practicing and making sure that each of us would give it our all with the auditions, it was time to go back into the auditorium.

I took a seat in the row between Ashlyn and Ricky, with EJ behind us.

First up was a sophomore who sang 'Wondering', which was the song that Ashlyn and I had written for HSM. While he was a bit off key, it was just super amazing to see someone singing a song that I had helped write with one of my best friends.

The whole time he was singing, Ashlyn and I were grinning at one another like idiots.

Next up was Lily, who went all Rachel Berry and did a version of 'Don't Rain On My Parade'. She sounded amazing, but there was just something about her that gave me a bad vibe.

Basically, she reminded me of all the super competitive and bitchy girls that I used to do community theatre with back in middle school, and that just wasn't a good look.

After she was done performing, she did a whole ass curtsy. Ughhh.

Next up was Ricky, who was singing 'Bet On It'. I'll admit that I love the song and HSM2, but this was going on the seventh time I'd heard him sing it and it was getting a little old.

I mean, he even did the obnoxious choreography from the movie. It was a good performance, but I have to admit that the whole thing was just a little...cheesy, if that makes sense.

Next up was Big Red. Instead of singing, he'd chosen to do a tap routine. Big Red was such an amazing tap dancer, and honestly I could totally see him playing Crutchie in a production of Newsies someday, just because he gave me that kind of vibe.

However, Big Red stumbled and fell. Ricky and Ashlyn both ran up there to make sure he was okay, but Lily startled cackling like an actual goddamn witch when he fell, causing Kourtney, Gina, Seb, Carlos, EJ, and I to glare at her. What a bitch.

Next up it was Ashlyn and Kourtney, singing the song that Ashlyn had written for them to sing together.

Last minute, Gina ran up to join them.

The three of them sounded amazing together, and the song was super good as well. I was just super proud of how good they were doing, and I couldn't believe how well their voices harmonized together.

After their amazing performance, it was my turn. To be honest, my nerves were starting to get the best of me. I was nervous of people laughing if I messed up, and I just knew deep down that I wouldn't measure up to how amazing everyone before me had done.

I got on the stage and began to sing. I had chosen to do 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' from The Wizard of Oz. It was my favorite movie growing up, and my brother Adam and I used to sing that song together all the time when we were younger.

As cheesy as it sounded, singing that song helped me feel as though my brother was there with me and it actually helped me regain some confidence.

Also, the whole time I sang, I looked out in the crowd at Ricky, who smiled at me reassuringly the whole time.

I got through the whole song, and to be honest, I felt kind of proud of myself. I had fun performing and thought that I'd done a good job, which was kind of a rare feeling for me.

"Amateur", Lily muttered, rolling her eyes as I walked off the stage.

I kept walking and took my seat next to Ricky, blinking back tears slightly. I knew I shouldn't let her bother me, and that it wasn't a big deal, but i just couldn't help but feel kinda disappointed in myself.

That song had meant a lot for me and I thought that I'd given it my all, but I clearly hadn't, and the only thing that was going through my brain was self doubt.

Ricky put his arm around me and pulled me close.

"You did great, Vi. I promise. Adam would be so proud of you. I'm so proud of you", Ricky said quietly.

I smiled slightly, "Thank you".
I just sat there in Ricky's arms as the rest of the people auditioned.

Everyone else did really well, and then it was time for the worst part, which was waiting for the results.

After twenty minutes, the cast list was posted, and we all ran to see it.

I was super proud of everyone, but especially Ashlyn and Ricky. They'd both worked so hard, and I was so happy for them that they'd gotten the roles of Belle and the Beast.

I'd gotten the role of Madame de la Grande Bouche, who was a former opera diva that had been turned into a wardrobe. It was a super cool role that came with an amazing costume, so I was just really excited to get the chance to play that role.

Gina had gotten the role of Babette (aka the flirty feather duster), Kourtney had gotten Mrs Potts, Seb had gotten Chip, Carlos had gotten Lumiere, EJ had gotten Gaston, and Big Red had gotten LeFou.

Despite how bitchy it made me seem, I was kinda satisfied that Lily hadn't gotten a role. I was just glad that I wouldn't have to work with someone who took satisfaction in other people's mistakes.

"I can't believe you got Beast! I'm so proud of you!" I hugged Ricky.

"I'm proud of you, Vi! You're gonna do amazing!" Ricky smiled.

"Congrats guys! We're all going to the pizza shop to celebrate if you want to come with", EJ said to us.

"Of course!" I exclaimed, as Ricky and I followed the rest of the group out.

We had a great time at the pizza shop together- Big Red's mom had even made us cupcakes with a figurine of each of our characters on top!

I was super happy with how the auditions had went, and I just couldn't wait for the rehearsals for the show to begin.

Beauty & The Beast- here we come!

Author's Note: Hey guys! I know this chapter was kind of uneventful, but there just wasn't much material I had to work with from last Friday's episode. I've also been super busy with finals, so I'm sorry for a later update than usual. My goal is to update around the same time next week, so we'll see how that goes lol. Anyways, I hope you liked this chapter!!!

Lots of love, Beth ❤️❤️❤️
