ββ Cameras don't truly capture the beauty of the moment.
The laughter of young spirits,
bright smiles that creased their faces,
or the joyful feeling of what it truly feels like being around people like you.
Cameras aren't nothing but janky piles of shi-...
β‘οΈ ββ "MIRAAA WAKE YO ASS UP YOU MISSED FAJR PRAYER-"
Sermira groaned loudly closing her ears and blocking out the banging noise on her door.
Wiping off the slob side of her soft lips she lifted her head rubbing the keyboard imprints that were left on her forehead sighing loudly as the banging continued.
Sermira blinked at the faint deep blue light streaming through the curtains, just fighting the urge to sink back into that dream of hers. It was peaceful thereβ with her imaginary wealthy Dubai husband on a cruise cuddling. But now, her ass was pushed back into the reality of the morning, and the weight of everything she was avoiding settled back onto her shoulders.
The banging continued each pound on the door like a hammer to her temples.
"Mira! Don't make me come in there!"
She sighed, pushing herself up from the chair and stumbling toward the door. The cold floor beneath her feet reminded her that she couldn't avoid the world forever. With a heavy hand, she unlocked the door.
On the other side stood Saem, his face a mix of mischief with that irritating grin of his. "I swear, you're going to be late again."
"I know, I know." Sermira rubbed the sleep from her eyes, her voice laced with raspy exhaustion. "I just... had a long night."
"Yeahhh I heard you in the middle of the night yelling about janky piles of shit?"
"Yeah Yeah I was just writing an essay for school" she cried out softly, just as their tiny little brother waddled by, rubbing his boogers on the wall in his bumpy diaper.
"Is anyone in the bathroom?" Sermira questioned her brother who seemed taller and was showing that every single damn day with her.
"Jeez Mira, when you're gonna get taller?"
"You didn't answer my question."
"Hold do you gotta go on that trip with those Kurasuno boys?" He asked eyeing her weirdly.
"Chill out I have Kiyoko and Yachi with me...plusss Ami and Morella are part of the crew" Sermira wandered out of the room, the weight of her dreamy thoughts trailing close behind dodging all the cluttered toys, balled-up tissues, and legos on the cold floor.
"Still you're telling me you ain't find no boy on the team attractive especially Suga?" he questioned her following only to have a tired groan.
"I swear Imma crash out if I hear that question one more time-" she waved her hand off at him swinging the bathroom open.
she didn't even turn her head around to look at him just glaring at him through the mirror.
"I'm just saying a Muslim girl in an "all boys" volleyball team you sure you don't like any boy there?
"You're just mad that your shitty basketball team wasn't invited to the Aomori sports tournament like ours did." she clapped back at him grinning hearing him smacking his lips before walking in and shutting the door.
she sighed softly starting up her bathroom routine of just staring in front of the mirror intensely for half of the time peeping out anything different about her face.
Sermira stood at about 5'4", with a presence that was both unassuming and joyful. Her brown skin had a natural glow, smooth and soft like silk, though a few faint scars on her forehead told stories of childhood tumbles. Her eyes, large and deer-like, were framed by long, fluttery eyelashes that seemed to brush her tiny eyebags when she blinked, giving her an that innocent look, were often a window to her soulβexpressive and full of emotion.
Her lips were full and plush, adding to the soft allure of her face. And then there was her lovely smileβthose small bunny teeth, just slightly crooked, peeked out shyly with a grin.
"The face? Snatched ouuuuuuuu Mira girllll" her inner voice was screaming into her head putting herself in a cheesy smile doing small affirmations to herself while finishing up her skincare.
"..."
"Damnit...I forgot to do my wudu first"
She just stood still with an irritated look on her face sighing now washing her hands and doing her wudu.
"I'm just gonna pray at the equipment room I'm already late."
once she departed from the bathroom she by her baby sister.
As she left the bathroom, she almost tripped over her little sister, Sofiya, who was waddling by with a mischievous grin, a clear signal that she was up to something.
"Hey, buddyyy, whatchu' you doinn'?" Sermira asked in her raspy soothing tone, yet her voice tinged with suspicion.
"Nothingggg," Sofiya giggled, dragging out the word in a way that clearly meant the girl was up to no good.
Sermira shook her head, squinting her eyes. "Just don't eat any Legos, okay?"
Sermira and Sofiya just stood in silence before she flicked Sofiya's head playfully earning a giggling as she waddled faster leaving a trail of legos behind that she secretly hid underneath her pajama shirt.
"wow...just wow" Sermira just made a mental note to not walk that way and to not step on any legos.
She quickly made her way to her room to grab her headcap and the flowy scarf As she wrapped it around her head and tossed one side over her shoulder adding a magnet to keep it still, she took extra care in securing the bow at the back. It was more than just fabric to herβit was her crown, a symbol of her identity and femininity.
"Why is this bow so pretty to me?" she mused aloud, adjusting it until it sat perfectly. Maybe because it's one of the few things in her life she had complete control over.
Stepping out of her room, she was met with the sight of little sister Raey digging through her hijabs. Again.
"Raey! Whatchu' you doing with my stuff?"
Raey looked up, wide-eyed but defiant. "I just wanted to borrow one... maybe..."
"Girl maybe?? You said that last week and I still haven't seen my favorite black one ever since" Sermira crossed her arms, trying to look stern, but Raey's cheeky grin was too hard to stay mad at.
"I kinda...lost that oneeee" Raey laughed awkwardly still searching for a scarf.
"Well please go find it then cuz I had that ever since middle school-"
"Ohhh no wonder it stanked a bit."
"Bit- Aight you ain't getting nun of my shi anymore bye" Sermira snatched her hijabs from Raey's hands pushing out her room.
"Jeezz You're the best big sister ever," Raey said sarcastically adding another word before leaving to piss Sermia off heavily.
"Bugs Bunny lookin ass..."
"Go fix those eyes of yours they getting a bit crossed again."
Sermira slammed the door behind her to put on her school uniform and do a little bit of makeup to relieve her stress.
Finally, Sermira made her way to the kitchen where her parents were sipping their morning chai. They looked up as she entered, their faces lighting up with warmth and love.
"Babygirl, you're running late again," her mother chided gently.
"I know, Mama, I know. I'm just... in a rushh." she whined walking over to her parents and kissing their foreheads.
Her father chuckled, setting down his cup. "You're always running, Mira. One day you'll have to slow down."
"Well if I slow down Imma be late," she replied with a smile, grabbing a piece of sausage from the counter.
Her mother's expression softened as she watched her daughter. "You know, we're proud of you, Mira. But..."
"Here we go...", Sermira thought sucking the juice from the sausage a bit before eating it.
"We just worry about you going so far away for college," her father continued, his tone careful. "America is... different."
"Americans are devils but in human clothing ewugh especially those white men that wear khaki pants to sleep and smell like lemon citrus." her momma didn't even let Sermia get peeped in continuing her disgust.
"Like who actually enjoys lemon colognes??" her mother complained with a stank face.
"Me, I like lemon citrus" The father chimed giving her that 'girl please' look.
"Well, Morella isn't a devil, and she's American?" Sermira said, half-jokingly, trying to lighten the mood.
Her father chuckled. "True, but she's tolerable yet the girl talks... a bit too much?."
Her mother nodded in agreement, her worry evident in her eyes. "We just want you to be safe, to find a good husband, someone who will take care of you."
Sermira sighed, trying not to feel the weight of their expectations. "I know, Mama. I promise I'll be fine."
Her parents exchanged a look, their love and concern palpable. "Just remember, Mira, we're always here for you. No matter what."
"I know," she whispered, feeling the familiar pressure settle over her. "I know."
With one last hug from her parents, Sermira grabbed her backpack and headed out the door, her heart heavy yet full of love.
FOCUS ON:
THE GIRLZZZ!
The hot morning air was a welcome relief as Sermira made her way to the school gym. Sneaking into the equipment room, she found a quiet corner to perform her Fajr prayer, her thoughts calming as she focused on the familiar motions.
Once finished, she stepped out into the gym, feeling more centered. That was when she spotted her friendsβ, Yachi and Morella, and Amiβchatting by the bleachers.
A wide grin spread across her face as she hurried over to them. "Heyyy, my precious babiesss!"
"Sermira!" the girls squealed in unison, practically knocking her over as they pulled her into a tight, bouncing group hug. Their laughter echoed through the gym, a mixture of joy and relief at being together again.
"Are you guys ready for the tournament?" Yachi asked, her eyes sparkling with barely contained excitement. "I've been counting down the days!"
"Totally pumped!" Sermira replied, though a flicker of doubt crossed Ami's face as she remembered something yet; She quickly pushed it aside, focusing on the moment.
"We were just talking about the beach and all the cute bikinis we got for the trip," Morella said, her tone playful.
Sermira laughed, shaking her head, joking around with them. "I'll be the one wearing a burkini while you all flaunt your stuff."
"Hey, modesty can be hot too," Ami chimed in with a wink, making everyone stay quiet before just giggling.
Morella nudged Sermira with a grin. "Don't be surprised when we all end up in burkinis just to match you."
Sermira turned her head around seeing all their smiles like they were down to do exactly that before she could say anything she noticed something was out of place.
"Waitt where my heart Kiyoko?" Sermira looked for a bit to see if Kiyoko was in the gym somewhere.
"She sprained her ankle during her last track meet so she skipping a few days" Yachi added letting Sermira on the info.
"AND I'M JUST NOW HEARING ABOUT THIS?!"
"WE THOUGHT YOU KNEW??!"
"I'm such a terrible friend bro how did I forget my girl was hurt???" Sermira complained walking out the gym doors with her group.
"She's fine! I called her yesterday she said she's still coming to the sports tournament but somebody gonna fill her row for track." Yachi continued patting Sermira's back.
They spent the next few minutes chatting and teasing each other until the bell rang, signaling the start of classes. With a final round of hugs, they parted ways, each heading off to their respective classrooms.
FOCUS ON :
AMI + NISHINOYA
Ami walked down the hallway, her mind was about something buzzing being in a path of excitement and nervousness. She didn't notice Nishinoya sidling up next to her until he nudged her shoulder.
"Yo, Ami. You've been acting weird lately," Nishinoya said bluntly, his eyes narrowing being nosy. "You okay?"
Ami shot him a look, trying to hide her nerves. "I'm fine, Nishinoya."
Nishinoya scoffed but didn't even look surprised closing his eyes as they walked shoving his hands into the rugged pockets of his.
"Liar."
"I'm just a little worried about the homework..."
"Hey, you just lied again!"
He twirled around in front of her blocking her path and having his hands in his pockets still trying to seem a bit higher against their awkward size distance.
"Seriously what the hell is going on with you? You seemed real down lately." He had a serious look on his face looking up at her confused.
"C'mon' Nishinoya you're causing a scene!" Ami side-eyed the other students as some began to think it was that 'Asahi incident' all over again yet Nishinoya didn't give a damn he wanted to know what was wrong with his friend.
They were silence between them before she crossed her arms sighing in defeat lifting up her hand and forming all her fingers in but one pinky out.
"Promise not to tell anyone not even Tanaka..."
"Uh-...Yeah, I promise?" he looked at her with suspicion wondering if she was going rip his pinky off for bothering her but reluctantly obliged wrapping his pinky around hers.
she leaned in whispering in his ear he stood there still having their pinkies intertwined.
"Oh?"
