Chapter 9 ~ Dean's All Out of Love
Episode: Season 7 - Slash Fiction Pt. 1
I sighed tiredly, my eyes blinking rapidly to fight to stay awake as I dozed on and off in the backseat. The cushions of this beat-up little car we'd been given by Frank were surprisingly soft against the back of my head, the material brushing roughly across my cheek as I gazed out the smudged back window. We were currently on our way to Ankeny, Iowa to destroy these Leviathan goofs who were stealing our identities. Then maybe we could finally drive around in Baby again and get our lives back together. At least, we all certainly hoped so. But right now, I was actually enjoying this soft backseat.
Not that it swayed my love for Baby, of course! A squeak sounded in the front seat then but I just ignored it, too busy dozing...that is, until something hit me in the nose. I growled and picked up the offending item in my hands - a yellow My Little Pony key-chain. Glaring, I hurled it back into the front seat, accidentally hitting Sam in the back of the head.
"Ow! Dean! Parker! Quit acting like children!" he scolded the both of us but we only rolled our eyes in response so he glanced over at his older brother, "You okay?"
"You know, it's bad enough that they're ganking people wearing our mugs, but now this? Have us driving around in this caboodle while Baby's on lock down," Dean seethed, his knuckles turning white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
"It's temporary, Dean,"
"Nobody puts Baby in a corner,"
"You-you know that's a line from-" Sam started to tell him but he cut him off.
"-a Swayze movie. Swayze always gets a pass," Dean waved him off.
"You know, on the topic of Dirty Dancing - I have to say, I preferred Havana Nights. I mean, seriously, Diego Luna? What on this earth is better than Diego Luna, I ask you?!" I piped up from the backseat, giving my two cents worth to this conversation.
"Right. Uh, well, you want some tunes or something? Here," Sam said, punching the power button on the radio so that it hummed to life.
"And what would you say if I called on you now and said that I can't hold on?" Air Supply sang out from the speakers.
Sam paled slightly as Dean shot him a "really?" look before the younger Winchester reached for the dial.
"Sorry, man, l-" Sam stuttered, shaking his head.
"Just leave it. It's probably gonna be the only thing on," Dean grumbled, rolling his green eyes in the darkness.
Sam glanced down at the map, getting engrossed in the zigzags to figure out which way we needed to go. But my own gaze was glued to Dean, watching him intently. I'd known him long enough to know exactly what was going to happen next. And it was totally worth the wait as the chorus began.
"I'm all out of love, I'm so lost without you," Dean began to dramatically lip-sync to the song when he thought no one was paying attention to him.
But Sam noticed. Oh, boy, did Sam notice. He eyed his older brother with a mix of surprise, amusement, and disgust.
"I know you were right believing for so long, I'm all out of love-" he continued, oblivious to the stares he was receiving until he glanced our way.
We all just stared at each other awkwardly, Dean's cheeks tinting a light pink before he returned his gaze back to the road wordlessly. My insides felt like they might burst from keeping the giggles in. Sam kept sending his brother wary little glances, watching him out of the corner of his eye. But as soon as Dean began to fail at inconspicuously head-banging to the beat, I knew I couldn't hold it any longer. The raucous laughter bubbled up from my throat, making both boys jump in their seats just as Sam cut the station. The younger Winchester glanced back at me and upon seeing my face, he busted out laughing as well, soon joined in by Dean as we sped down the road to Iowa.
