Chapter 63 ~ Bad Boys, What You Gonna Do?
Episode: Season 9 - Bad Boys Pt. 1
The stench of cow manure and dusty hay filled my nose, making me want to gag instantly as I stepped out of the Impala but instead, I only cringed at the foul smell.
"So this is where you lived?" I asked in astonishment, shooting my husband a surprised look.
He only muttered a slightly audible 'yep' before leading the way up the front porch steps to the wide veranda and into the house. It wasn't until I stepped into the living room, bright and spacious, various photos of the kids dotting the walls that gave the place a home-y feel that it struck me. Of course! This was the place we had picked up Dean from that night so long ago... But before anyone had the chance to speak, a tall man with a mustache and long brown ponytail stepped into the room.
"D-dawg!" he greeted Dean, grinning from ear-to-ear.
"Sonny," Dean smiled, bringing the older man into a hug, "Good to see you,"
"You, too, brother," he replied brightly, breaking free of the embrace to shake my and Sam's hands, "Oh, and this must be Sam and Parker, the baby bro and the arch nemesis,"
I coughed, covering up a laugh as I smiled at the man, "Wife now actually,"
He arched his eyebrows in surprise, the smile reappearing in a heartbeat, "Is that so?"
His eyes flitted between me and Dean in that moment.
The man, Sonny, gave a chuckle before shaking his head and continuing, "My, my, things change. I still remember the day you and little Sammy over there come to pick him up from here - you were spouting some very colorful things from that pretty little mouth of yours over him making you miss our favorite show. Honestly, I was quite impressed at your vocabulary at only 11,"
I shrugged, grinning, "Well, what can I say? Big Wolf on Campus was a classic,"
"Alright. So, what's happening?" Dean cut to the chase.
Sonny proceeded to give us the run-down of the goings-on in the past few weeks at the little farm before we all checked out the house and barn. Dean picked up a bait of EMF from the barn but nothing more. After Sam talked to one of the women who worked there, we did a standard salt-and-burn, thinking it was case closed. We decided to head out to get a bit to eat afterward at a dingy, little cafe called Cus's Place in town that Dean recommended. It seemed nice enough. Except for the fact that as soon as we'd sat down, Dean couldn't take his eyes off a certain waitress that worked there.Β
Sam took no notice though but I sure did. It was worse once she came over to our table to get our orders.
"Welcome to Cus's. What can I get you three?" she asked politely, shiny auburn hair glinting underneath the fluorescent lighting of the restaurant.
Dean smirked up at her, "Bet you never thought you'd see me here, huh?"
I made a noise in the back of my throat, fighting the urge to reach across the table and slam his stupid head into it. But I had no right to that after everything...right?
The woman didn't seem to remember him though like he did her, "Uh, look, I'm a little bit slammed right now. Do you guys want to hear the specials?"
"Robin," Dean persisted, not letting it go for a second as he gestured to himself, "Dean Winchester,"
I cleared my throat then, finally gaining the auburn-haired woman's attention.
"And that's Sam," I said, hooking a thumb towards him on my left before continuing forcefully, "And I'm Parker Winchester. As in Dean's wife...as in he's deeply in love with me,"
Sam coughed in embarrassment, shooting me a pointed look to which I only shrugged at him before mumbling under my breath, "Just putting that out there,"
Robin only sent us all a helpless glance to which Dean pressed on, "Used to live up at Sonny's,"
"Oh! Oh, uh...look, sorry, there's just - there's so many boys that pass through there, it's - it's hard to remember every - every name and face," she told him gently.
I know she didn't mean anything by it. But just judging from the look on his face, you could tell Dean was hurt by her words.
"Yeah, uh... No, sorry, I just, remember you coming up there with your mom. She'd give guitar lessons. It's, uh - it was a long time ago," Dean conceded, absentmindedly messing with the napkin set in front of him.
"Yeah, Mom, she loved helping out the boys. I guess that's why I kept giving lessons after she passed." Robin admitted, sadness tinging her words even though she smiled.
We left not long after that, having gotten an urgent call from Sonny, and needless to say, it was a silent drive back to the farm. I offered to help Sam out in the barn but he declined so I ruefully went back to the house to find Dean. Didn't take long - I just followed the sound of Dean's melodic voice ringing out from the living room.
"We gotta get out of here, okay?" he was telling her, trying to get her to safety from this spirit that was haunting the place, "I don't have time to explain. You just gotta trust me,"
"Trust you?" she repeated before letting out a humorless laugh, "And why would I do that again?"
I stepped into the hallway then, just hovering in the doorway of the living room although neither of them seemed to notice my presence, too wrapped up in their own conversation.
"You do remember me!" Dean said matter-of-factly.
But the next words that left her mouth made me feel sick. Although in retrospect, maybe i deserved it for everything that came before.
"How could I forget? You were my first love."
