Chapter 45 ~ Crazy Martin Goes Crazier

Episode: Season 8 - Citizen Fang Pt. 2Β Β

We met up with Martin about an hour after we hit the state line. He was still a bit well, off since the last time we'd seen him but for the most part seemed okay. Maybe Sam was right after all about this guy. Everything was going fine...until Martin began to accuse Benny of being the one to gank those vamps. I could tell Dean was livid but instead of snapping, he demanded a couple of hours to figure it out himself. Sam and I conceded reluctantly and then it was just the three of us.Β

But as soon as we heard the Impala's engine rev up outside the run-down hotel that Martin was staying in, he turned back to Sam and I with a gleam in his eye that put me on edge.

"We're doing this as soon as he pulls away," Martin insisted, eyes still a bit wild.

"No, we're not, Martin," Sam shut him down instantly, "We're gonna give him a little bit of time,"

"Well, hey, it's your brother. It's your call," Martin grumbled, throwing his hands in the air before he began stalk into the adjoining room, "How long are you gonna let him go on like this? It's staring him right in the face,"

It was then that I noticed Sam's hazel-brown eyed-gaze lingering on me, making me shift uncomfortably.

"Well, sometimes it's not easy to see things for what they are," he said quietly.

I scoffed in anger, rolling my eyes as I turned to leave when suddenly, I felt Sam's fingers wrap around my wrist, spinning me back to face him.

"Parker, we have to tell Dean," Sam said earnestly, a sympathetic expression clear on his face even in the fading light of day streaming through the window.

"It's all in the past, Sam. All of it." I bit out, ripping my hand away as I stalked off.

If I wanted, I would tell Dean the secret I'd been hiding. But I wasn't ready for that... Sam didn't follow but the memories did, forever replaying in my mind, haunting me.

"You thought about what you're gonna say to him?" he asked me softly.

I pushed a strand of dark hair out of my face and sighed, "I've thought about it and thought about it, and I still don't know,"

He was quiet a moment, eyes roving over my face as if he was trying to memorize every feature he saw there.

"Look, I'm sure you have a lot of people telling you what the right thing to do is here-" he began but I just shook my head for him to stop.

"He's your boyfriend, Parker! Not to mention the father of your little girl..."

His words trailed off then, silence and tension hanging between us as I glanced over at him to see a pained expression plastered to his face before he turned to face me.

"But I-I don't I don't want to do the right thing. I mean, this is the right thing - you and me. And maybe I'm going to Hell for saying this, but I'm not ready to give this up," he confessed, warm eyes boring into mine intensely.

I felt my heart soar in my chest at his words and I whispered his name under my breath as I reached out a hand to caress his cheek. His gentle mouth pressed a soft, velvet kiss to my open palm, filing me with joy.

"Neither am I."

Dean came back a bit later, trying to convince us it wasn't Benny. But Sam and I still weren't so sure.

"Listen, Dean, we came here on a dead body. You asked for some time, and now there's another dead body. Are we just going on trust here?" Sam asked him.

"Yes," Dean replied simply, eyes hard.

"Okay. Because we've killed for a lot less, and you know how these things turn out for us," Sam pointed out.

"Yes, I do - too well. In fact, every relationship I have ever had has gone wrong at some point," Dean bit back, eyes darting to mine for a split second.

A twinge of pain shot through my chest like a bullet at the blatant reference.

"But the one thing I can say about Benny - he has never let me down,"

Sam scoffed and spat sarcastically, "Well, good on you, Dean. It must feel great finally finding someone you can trust after all these years,"

Dean bit his lip, guilt evidently washing over him before he clarified, "All I'm saying is that Benny is innocent,"

As the boys continued to argue, I noticed Martin swipe something from the table before I tuned back into the conversation from my perch on the windowsill.

"These are innocent lives we're talking about, Dean," Sam insisted, "And you're willing to risk that on Benny's word alone?"

"I am," Dean confirmed.

But before he could say more, he was knocked to the floor by something metal. He was already unconscious by the time he hit the tile. My love for Dean surpassed my anger in that moment, bleeding over into concern as as gasp ripped from my throat and I knelt beside him. I glanced up at Sam then and I gave him a slight no, our own secret code as Martin got ready to leave.

"Parker, you stay here with Dean. Make sure he doesn't follow us, alright?" Sam told me, emphasizing the part I was intended to do the opposite of.

With a quick nod to him, I turned back to Dean, his head cradled in my lap as Sam left with Martin. It didn't take long for him to wake up, though, and once he had, he got in contact with Benny and we were n our way to the restaurant.
