Chapter 28 ~ Bad Decisions

Episode: Season 7 - The Girl With The Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo Pt. 2Β

After I'd dried my tears and Dean had finished getting dressed for the day, Bobby showed up, informing us of Dick Roman's new plans. Apparently, he was selling foods with additives in them - the same as was in the Turducken sandwiches. It didn't take long for Sam to whip out his laptop and start searching for the location of the new factory. As he zoomed in closer on his screen, Richard Roman Enterprises, popped up.

Dean faked a happy smile and said sarcastically, "Perfect. It's in the middle of the Death Star,"

A sigh escaped my mouth as I stood behind the two brothers, "And this time, there's no Han Solo to save us,"

"Technically, Luke-" Sam started but I waved him off.

"Okay, yeah, I mean, he did fire the shot but if we're being technical, he couldn't have done it if wasn't for Han 'cause he would've been fried to bits-" I shook my head, beginning to explain when Dean cut us off.

"Hush, you two. Enough nerd talk," he admonished before getting up out of his seat, "All right, well, off to Chicago,"

"No, wait, guys. You can't just break in. They know your mugs. What if we mailed in the flask? Then I could ghost through the joint. It's not like Dick can kill me twice," Bobby suddenly suggested, making us all turn to give him an incredulous look, "What, you got a better plan? Come on. Just because I'm dead, doesn't mean I don't know how to do my job,"

Silence ensued for a moment before Sam broke it, "Bobby, that's Dick's office,"

"I think what Sam is trying to say is, what happens if you run into Dick and you know...go vengeful. You know that's not something you can just shake off," Dean told him seriously.

"Come on. Give me some credit!" he protested.

"Sorry, Bobby," I told him softly, feeling a bit remorseful at having to leave him behind on this one.

"Parker, if anybody's staying behind, you know it should be you. Especially now." Bobby shot back, his words hitting home.

My eyes widened in surprise, though, and my jaw went slack. He knew?! But how? How did he know? That wasn't possible! Unless...unless he'd been following us for longer than we thought - from before he managed to become visible... Which meant he'd seen how many times I'd been sick, the mood swings, and...the test. I swallowed hard, unable to meet his gaze. Or the confused, strange look Dean shot towards me. Instead, I just followed Sam out of the cabin, avoiding them both.

The entire ride there, I could feel both Dean and Sam shooting me worried glances. Dean's was just of confusion but I knew Sam was worried about me...and the baby, Bobby's words inevitably ringing in not only my ears but his as well. The map and the clues we'd found thanks to the tracking device helped us find our way to a small apartment complex on fifth. It didn't take long to find the room number but when we got there - well, our welcome was not so welcome to put it nicely. As soon as Dean walked up to the door, it burst open, revealing a frazzled, slightly panicked young woman with ginger hair.

"It's all right. I'm not gonna hurt you," he said, trying to calm her down.

"Get away from me, you-" she began before her eyes flicked over to a fake sword resting on a table, grabbing it quickly to hold out in front of her for protection," -shapeshifter!"

I rolled my eyes. Here we go.

"We're not shapeshifters," Sam told her, stepping up behind her, startling the poor girl and making her slam her sword into him.

Sam was harmless but in her defense, the big moose could scare anyone. He was like a silent moose.

Dean quickly knocked the mock sword from her hand, "Look, wee're not Leviathans. Okay? You want us to prove it? You know what Borax does to them?"

He held a large Borax bottle in his hand and I frowned in confusion, wondering just where in the world he had been hiding that thing. The girl muttered a slight 'yeah' before Dean continued to pour the Borax onto Sam's skin before doing the same to him and I. Finally ,he handed the bottle over to the girl and she did the same. As they all began to talk strategy, discussing what to do about Dick's hard drive secrets, I invited myself to a 'tour' of the apartment. And as I did, I realized this girl and I had a lot in common. For example, she was a self-professed huge nerd like myself - Funko Pops adorning the walls on shelves, Harry Potter wands lining the coffee-tables, and I think I even spied a replica of Sting somewhere in the corner.

I grinned, liking this girl already. She was like another version of me - with red hair. But then, as I rounded back over to the three of them, something caught my eye that made me gasp. The girl, who I just overheard the boys call Charlie, spun around, looking everywhere.

"What?! What?!" she said in a panic, whipping her head this way and that.

"Dude, your shirt! It's-it's...amazing!" I said joyfully, barely able to contain my excitement, my eyes glued to her cute purple Princess Leia 'Rebel' t-shirt, "I love Leia. She's, like, one of the best characters in the galaxy - even Expanded Universe,"

A grin lit up her face then and she let out a slight chuckle, nodding as she stepped over to where I stood, "I know, right?! I got it at Comic-Con last year and it was like the last one they had so it was super expensive but you know, it was Leia so obviously I had to have it-"

"GUYS! Seriously. What is with all this nerd talk lately?" Dean grumbled, breaking up our nerd fest.

I shrugged, patting Charlie on the shoulder as she frowned, "Don't worry. More time for nerd stuff later."

She grinned back at me, nodding happily before we all got back into business mode. Charlie ended up being our distraction as well as our spy whilst we helped direct her to where the hard drive was. Everything was going surprisingly well...up until she got caught by the Leviathans. We had to swoop in and do a bit of a rescue mission. Including tumbling through a glass window, which I could tell Sam wasn't very fond of me doing. But what was our choices? I took in a sharp breath as we surveyed the situation at hand, guards coming at us and Charlie crumpled up on the floor, clutching her wounded arm to her chest. Yeah, things went really well without us, it seems.

"Dean! He's one of them!" Charlie called to my boyfriend, nodding her head towards the oncoming man to the right.

Dean splashed Borax on him and he began screaming, writhing as he hit the floor, skin smoking. Sam knocked out a guard from beside me as I took out a woman charging towards me. Quickly, Sam scooped up Charlie into his arms.

"That would explain it. Hanging with the wrong crowd, kiddo." a voice spoke up suddenly, making us glance up to see Dick Roman standing before us in all his finery.

I rolled my eyes and we stepped back, trying to get out of there fast. Suddenly, Bobby slammed him into a wall before Dick picked himself up off the ground.

"All right, enough, show yourself. Let's do this like real monsters!" Dick sneered, searching around for whoever had thrown him.

This was it. We had our opening now. We'd almost made it, too. That's when it happened. I felt it more than saw it. A sharp pain erupted in my side and I cried out before I was knocked to the floor, seeing stars in my vision.

I heard Sam and Dean shout from above me before I finally came to my senses, kicking out with my feet at my attacker - another Leviathan we had seemingly missed. As it's back hit the floor, I managed to crawl to my feet, snatching the Borax bottle up from where it had fallen from Dean's grasp and throwing it at the creature. Instantly, it's skin began to steam and it let out an ear-piercing scream. Quickly, Dean helped me to my feet and together, the four of us ran off back to the Impala, leaving Bobby to take care of Dick. Sam and I helped Charlie into the backseat and I tried to make her as comfortable as possible while we road to the hospital. The pain in my side had lessened now but I could tell Sam's jaw was clenched, his gaze hard as he looked at me every so often.

I knew why, too. Not only had I put my life in danger, tonight... I'd put the baby's life in danger, too. I never should have come.
