Nishinoya Yuu, the always energetic second year and the best voted libero in junior high. how could that guy end up with you? the always gloomy and quiet girl who wears turtlenecks under her shirt. you were his classmate ever since the first year and he noticed you even back then. let's just say that the energetic people always notice the vibe of the quiet ones and sadly for you, you became Nishinoya's target. and let me tell you that it is very hard to get rid of Nishinoya once he decides he likes you.

ā€¢

"(l/n)!" the boy with spiky hair yelled once he saw you walk towards the school gates. the school started just a week ago, you were still trying to fit in with the other first years even though you knew you can't. Nishinoya however, looked like he's been attending karasuno for years. people already recognized him in the halls, even second years and third years and he was quick to join the volleyball team and become their libero, the only positon they never had.

you jumped up at the sudden attention not only from the hyper boy, but also from everyone around you. your cheeks flushed and you tugged on the sleeves of your black turtleneck.

"can i walk you home?" Nishinoya asked once he caught up with you, grinning at you widely.

"b-but, we're not friends." you whispered and hung your head low to hide behind your (h/c) hair. Nishinoya's eyes widened at that but his smile was back soon.

"we're not friends yet! who says we can't be?"

ā€¢

since that day, you've been stuck with the boy. not like you complained. he was kind, always helped you study even though you were smarter than him. he always supported you and most of all, he was your first ever friend.

you had many sleepovers and hang out sessions where you just hid under blankets while it was raining and watched movies. you opened up to him, he was the first person you showed your smile to. he cherished those moments.

but he never even once asked you why you always wear long sleeves. so when that day came, it printed a crack on your friendship.

ā€¢

"hey (y/n)?" he asked with his arms behind his head while he was walking you home. you were walking on the edge of the sidewalk, trying to balance yourself and just hummed in response to let him know that you're listening. "why do you keep wearing that turtleneck? it's summer, you must be hot. why don't you take it off?"

you stopped in your tracks immediately, standing in front of him completely frozen. you turned around to face him, tugging on those sleeves again. you trusted him and he trusted you, but you never wanted him to know.

"i can help you out, come on." he smiled and reached out to you, to which you smacked his hand away.

"no!" you yelled out and started breathing heavily, hyperventilating almost, with tears running down your cheeks. "please don't." you whispered and right after that, you ran away, leaving Nishinoya completely clueless.

ā€¢

the next day, you came to school in that turtleneck again. Nishinoya started paying more attention to it. you didn't talk to him. you avoided him and his heart cracked. he was very depending on you. you didn't know about it, but he developed feelings for you throughout the time you spent together. of course, he didn't tell you. he knew how fragile you were and didn't want to break the friendship he worked so hard for. but now, he put that friendship up for a test.

he watched you soullesly wander through the halls, talking to nobody again and just now he saw how lonely you are without him. why won't people talk to you? he often asked that himself. you were pretty and dorky when you opened up to people, actually fun to be around. yet he was the only one who dared to talk to you.Ā

after that, Nishinoya decided to open his ears and listen to everyone around him.

ā€¢

"i heard she started doing it again."

"really? why won't she get help?"

"maybe she doesn't want to, i heard she tried to commit a suicide in junior high."

"poor girl."

Nishinoya's eyes widened. is this really what people think about you? no, is this really true? he paced into his classroom and slammed the door open, immediately looking at your seat to find it empty. without even talking to the teacher, he rushed outside school and towards your house. he knew where the spare key is so he had no problem with getting in.Ā

"(y/n)!" he yelled and his voice echoed through the house. he stomped up the stairs where he heard your cries and hiccups. he firstly opened the door to your bedroom, finding nothing but mess there. he then kicked open the door to the bathroom.

there you were, sitting on the ground in a pool of blood. your wrists were drenched in blood with fresh and old cuts, scars dancing in between them, and a razor in your hand. tears were running down your cheeks and once you looked up to see Nishinoya crying as well, you completely broke down.

"i am so sorry! i am sorry for hurting you! i never...i never wanted you to know!" you said while sobbing and Nishinoya just kneeled in front of you, taking the razor out of your hand and throwing it to the hallway.

"why?" he whispered, his voice breaking at the end because of him crying.Ā

"m-my mom left right after i was born. she wanted a boy and got me...my dad has been alcoholic ever since. i am a failure from birth. nobody talks to me, nobody loves me. it's as if they knew about everything so i try to hide it." you breathed out with shaky voice.

"i love you for fucks sake (y/n)!" Nishinoya yelled and took your face in his palms, staining it with your blood but none of you really cared. your (e/c) eyes widened, staring in his hazel ones with shock.

"y-you do?" you sniffled and Nishinoya just sighed, pressing his lips on yours in a deep, loving kiss.

"god (y/n), you're so stupid."

ā€¢

since that day, Nishinoya insisted on staying by your side all the time. it was easy at school because you were in the same class. he persuaded you to attend his practices where you helped out Kiyoko and Yachi. it made your mind wander somewhere else than to your messed up life so it was very comforting. after that, you either stayed at Nishinoya's place or he stayed at yours. it was easier for him to stay at yours place since your father was never home, but you rather stayed at his place because it was more comfortable there. more family-like.

one day, Nishinoya couldn't stay at yours and you couldn't stay at his since he had some kind of a family dinner. he told you to text him every hour until you go to sleep and he will pick you up in the morning to walk to school with you. it was raining that day and you texted him at 10 pm precisely that you got drenched in the rain and that you are sick so you won't be going to school the next day. after that, you texted him that you are going to sleep and that he shouldn't worry about you.Ā

three days have passed and you still haven't showed up at school nor texted Nishinoya. he blamed it on you probably sleeping most of the time but that empty seat of yours at school made him a little bit uneasy. he slumped on the chair in his seat, waiting for their homeroom teacher to come in.

"since (l/n) won't be joining us anymore...-" the teacher started but Nishinoya was quick to cut them off.

"anymore? what do you mean by that? she's just sick." he protested because he for sure doesn't like how his girlfriend is treated. like a ghost, as if you didn't exist. the classmate sitting behind Nishinoya tapped his shoulder, gaining his attention while the teacher continued the lesson but Nishinoya paid no attention to them.

"you don't know Noya?" the girl behind him asked with worry on her face. Nishinoya just raised his eyebrow in confusion as the girl sighed, hating the fact that she is the one to tell him.

"she did it, Noya."
